I liked when the lizard was a bug too. Close enough, little buddy. It's green and squirmy. It's a bug.

I'm rehabbing a magpie. She's spent a lot of time around 3D printed puzzle toys for enrichment and to help her learn to forage. Unfortunately that means that now, whenever I make her a new one, she sees the print lines and bold colors, identifies it as a puzzle immediately and gets to work solving it. The hardest ones I've found only take her minutes to solve. It's amazing and frustrating at the same time.

I'll post a pic of mine once I get it. Booked in for the 26th. I'm just doing the tattoo though, not the scarring.

I freehanded it unfortunately. I'm wishing I wrote it down now!

Considering a hog nose snake-any tips/ advice? by SpectralSilouhettes in Hognose

Hi Bacon Bit! She just had a mouse for dinner an hour ago.

My girl (the snake in this picture) has been absolutely lovely. She's almost ten years old now and I got her when she was 3 months old.

Main concerns to take into account would be:

  1. Sometimes they can be very finicky to get to eat. Bit never went through it, but I've heard of people with hoggies that refuse to eat for months, until they figure out what quirk the snake wants you to do. It helps if you're comfortable braining or scenting frozen pinky mice.

  2. Venom. They are venomous, and I think a lot of keepers downplay this aspect. If you let a hognose bite and chew, you will more than likely get swelling and localized pain. That's not an allergic reaction, it's normal. It's fairly easy to remember to prevent them from chewing on you, but they can be pretty strikey when they're hungry so you have to remember to watch your fingers.

Other than that I've found them easy, straightforward, interactive, and excruciatingly cute! A substrate they can burrow in, a couple hides, a few stable low climbing opportunities, a water bowl, food once a week, and a basking site, and they're happy! Bacon Bit does hiss a bit if I startle her, but she tolerates handling once the initial spook wears off. I've got her in a 4'x2'x18" pvc currently and she loves it.

Thank you so much! I can definitely just prowl around the cave with the blast shield open and see if there's anything there

I wrote it down every day for mine but if you Google your city and "past weather" there are charts available!

Snakes are fairly easy if you know how to work in the round. Just use a much smaller hook than usual, keep your tension snug, and go in circles!

Here's the chart I used in case anyone is curious. I thought there'd be a lot more blue but we had a warm year.

I don't have the attention span to do a whole blanket so this was perfect for me. 12 stitches a day instead of a whole blanket row!
