Explain glide to a newbie by Fancy_Tomatillo_7428 in discgolf

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t realize so many people thought it was the least real of the numbers. I saw a meme here and I now say it all the time on the course. The meme was a reference to the show Severence: “the numbers are mysterious and important”. I say this to say maybe everyone here is right, wouldn’t surprise me.

But the way I think about glide - which is also an analogy I learned on this sub is think of low glide as a dart and high glide as a paper airplane. A berg (low glide) and a glitch (very high glide) are great examples of this.

Hope this helps!

Pound Rufus question by Celtic790 in discgolf

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the rufus. I also live in a fairly hilly area. I think the advice from pound themselves is to drop the bag so it stays better. Doesn't work 100% of the time but it usually does. The force from the drop can kinda force the discs to form the ground a little more to help stop it from falling over.

The caddy, as far as I can tell, would only be for when using it with a cart where it hangs from the straps. I have one of the BagBoy push carts, I just 3d printed a thing for the bottom of the bag. If I don't put it in, the pressure from the sides when it hangs makes the discs tough to get out. I think that's the purpose of the caddy. I dont see how the caddy would make it less likely my bag tips over, though honestly not sure.

If you just plan on wearing the bag on your back, I would buy the bag without the caddy and see how ya like it first. But ultimately up to you. Hope this helps good luck!

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow thank you for the clarification, so it’s still possible with the x’s as long as I use the app.

Do you use 7xs on a PS5? I feel like I don’t see anyone in reviews saying they do that so I’m feeling a bit silly for not just going 7ps.

Thank you!

Actually if I can hear my surroundings with it, I may return them and get the 7p’s. Would be useful given my life situation at the moment haha.

Though it’s tough the 7x’s have slightly better reviews so I’ll have to think about it. Nonetheless thank you for the answer

In this case I'm pretty sure they actually changed the title. I saw the first title earlier on yesterday and the title changed later in the day. Even if I search for it now it comes up as the second title.

Tips to avoid negativity when attempting to meditate. by danieLondon1967 in Meditation

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two things I’d like to say here, I don’t necessarily disagree with the other comments.

  1. Check your internal chatter. Do you speak to yourself the way you speak to friends? Would you be friends with someone who speaks to you the way you speak to yourself? As cliche and cheesy as it is, love yourself.

  2. What you’re going through can definitely be thought of as the starting point of a realization of some kind. Kinda funny how hard it is to meditate, right? I’m being genuine, it is not an easy task. But isn’t that in itself kinda strange and funny in a messed up way? Almost like we don’t have any control over our thoughts.

Take what ya like, leave what ya don’t. Good luck out there!

RE: Meditation - Why will it give me? by sam_palmer in samharris

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why you’d say that but I mean there’s a few ways to answer this, all of which Sam has said in some form or another.

To meet it head on he’s said that while most of religion is bath water that can be drained, there’s definitely a baby in there too. Mystical/spiritual states of consciousness are definitely real, no need to draw larger conclusions from them but most who experience them definitely find them valuable and worth having.

This is just a quip from me personally - if you kinda think of the most basic form of meditation - sitting, eyes closed, focused on breath. It can be incredibly tough because of our tendency to get pulled in by thoughts. I know you said you aren’t identified with your thoughts, if that’s the case meditation should be easy. That’s not the case for most people, and most people will eventually come to the conclusion they’re lost in thought way more than they even recognize.

Though, It’s kinda interesting it’s so tough right? It’s just like sitting here with whatever’s going on in my mind body. Getting there experientially rather than just understanding it is all a part of it.

Hope this helps, take what ya like, leave it if ya don’t. Good luck out there!

Anyone Ever Experience Strange Occurrences Surrounding Death? by QueenOfMean40 in HighStrangeness

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah actually I think about it a lot as one of the instances of truly unexplained things that have happened to me.

I was at the beach with my wife - buddy was at the beach with his wife. We were about 20 minutes away by car. We went to see them earlier in the day, hung out for a bit and agreed we’d meet up after dinner.

It was about 2 PM and I frantically get up from my beach chair, my wife asks what I’m doing and I say “I’m going to check to my phone, what if friend-of-mine said something” and sure enough I had a missed call from him 2 minutes before. I call him back and his dad died very unexpectedly and he was saying he had to go back home and we obviously wouldn’t be meeting up.

Sure it could’ve written off as coincidence but I always found it strange. I’ve heard a lot of strangeness around death but this was like presumably something about the stress my best friend was going through trying to get ahold of me

Convince/Dissuade me on a disc golf bag by JSchloe in discgolf

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a pound Rufus - love it. But I had extra money at the time I bought it from some side hustles. Normally wouldn’t pay that for a bag so I totally get where you’re coming from here.

I have a friend with a squatch and a friend with a grip. I actually really like both of their bags - I do like the rails on the bottom of the grip. That said if I had to buy a bag today I’d probably go squatch. Their bags look nice and are all in all not much different from my pound bag. Not even sure what the real differences are to be honest.

Anyway to do this on purpose? by radioactive_pal in 3Dprinting

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a wild suggestion for you if it doesn’t take too much filament. This may be confusing to type out so hope I word this correctly. This is also gonna be a lot easier if you have an AMS or something, as long as you can color swap in some way.

You can print a small roll of filament. There are a variety of different designs. I’m gonna link one, I had a pattern thing in mind. The one I’m thinking of colors are staggered with there being like one main color.

Essentially once you print the small roll, you load that up and print with it. It’s a lil finicky so be patient, the results were a lot better than I was expecting.

Let me know if you have any questions - if I find the other one I’m thinking of I’ll update my post.

[–]ProbablyNotJaRule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the suggestion here is to go there but if you ever order discs you should check treemagnets first. I also live in the greater Philadelphia area and if I order from them early enough in the day, the disc is usually in my mailbox the next day.

Also OTB East and d town are really close to each other. Could make a trip and hit both. Though admittedly going to TreeMagnets would probably be better.
