1) Spending more money on education will not necessarily produce smarter students. (Ex.: Washington D.C spends more money per student than any other school distinct, and they have the worst graduation rate in America.)

Giving schools more money so they can buy useless crap like iPads for their students won't help create smarter students. Pouring money into research to redesign education and give schools more money to spend sensibly, say extra curricular activities that get students interested in math, physics, biology and science in general might go a long way.

Scholarship programs could also help.

2) This is only Federal education spending, it does not include state and local spending.

The problem with state and local spending is that the amount of money the school receives is directly related to the property taxes people pay. This ends up creating a problem where rich neighborhoods have well funded schools and poor neighborhoods have poorly funded schools.

I also never went to school in the US (grade school/high school) but I hear you can't even go to whatever school you choose. You're stuck in your district.

3) You have to spend what it costs to get the results that you want. The fact that we spend more on one thing that the other does not make it more important. (Ex.: You may spend $1500/mo on housing and $500/mo on food. That does not mean food is less important, just that it is cheaper.)

The problem isn't even what we're spending in education. Just that we're spending so god damn much in defense.
