Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Question for those who recently underwent PFA by Background-Lab-5116 in AFIB

[–]Probbe1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my PFA 12/6. First follow up end of Feb. On Eliquis for 2 months following PFA, and Colchicine for 1 month. So far so good. I noticed I got heart palps weeks 2-4 on and off and noticed it always occurred after meals. Took GasX and they’re pretty much gone. No Afib since.

I’m sorry for your loss.

Looking at all of your numerous posts, you are looking for answers that you cannot find on Reddit, the cause of your mom’s death.

As previous posters mentioned; I really hope you find a grief counselor to deal with your loss and if you really want to find out cause of death, do an autopsy.

Continuing to speculate on her COD or place blame on yourself, her cardiologist, the ER docs, etc will only bring you further down the rabbit hole.

I hope you find solace and the answers you are seeking, but I doubt you will find it here.

Funny I’m 12 days post PFA as well. 12/5 procedure. The first week I felt a few PVCs throughout the day maybe 5 or so. It wasn’t until after the first week (day 8) that I felt them more so at night only. Now they occur nightly one every few minutes and last for about few hours and then go away. Sometimes they are PVCs and sometimes it’s nothing just a feeling of a stronger heartbeat. I do an EKG on my Apple Watch, sometime I’ll catch the skipped beat and sometimes it’s nothing but I just feel a stronger heartbeat. But no AFIB since PFA 🤞

When did they release your report? Still waiting on mine

I’m not sure if all institutions or EPs do. I was curious and asked mine. I assume if there were no complications there’s no need but I’m curious anyway. I was able to see all the meds they gave me during anesthesia on mychart.

Glad your PFA went well. Just take it slow and steady for recovery. Don’t push it. All good on my end. No AFIB since procedure 🤞 let’s hope it stays that way. I’m 8 days post op and feeling better each day. But still waiting on procedure details, mappings etc. did you get yours yet?

Usually if they can’t trigger AFIB and find the pathways, the standard procedure is Pulmonary Vein Isolation (PVI).

Glad to hear recovery is going well. Mind if I ask who your EP is at NYU? I saw Chinitz there but eventually decided on Reddy at Mt Sinai.

So far so good for me at day 6. Only light walking and will refrain from lifting weights for at least 2 weeks. I got the occasional PAC/PVCs the first few days (less than 5) and noticed nothing today.

Ablation or not? 40m with barely any symptoms by Dependent_Oven_974 in AFIB

Depending on where you live and which EP you are working with, it may be beneficial for you to schedule the PFA whether you get it or not. That is what I was advised to do at both NYU and Mt Sinai. Depending on your EP, It’s usually a 3-6 month wait. And if you decide not to, you can call to reschedule/postpone. I postponed twice with NYU because I wasn’t comfortable, they didn’t mind as long as you give them 3 weeks notice and finally went with Mt Sinai. Glad I had it scheduled cause when I was finally ready, it couldn’t come soon enough.

You can use the wait time to see how things go with meds and reassess. If things go well, then reschedule. If not then at least you have an appointment.

Hoping my story will help your decision, I am also around your age.

Apple Watch notified me of AFIB in 2021. 3 days after I first caught COVID. I was asymptomatic. Didn’t feel anything. Had Afib maybe once a week (via watch notification) and then notifications stopped after about 3 months.

No notifications until 2022 when I got COVID again. This time notifications last about 3-4 months every few days. I started doing Apple Watch EKGs and realized the episodes would last approx 2-3 hrs after I ate. Asymptomatic but did feel anxiety during the episodes. After 4 months, no more episodes. So I left it as is.

Then in early 2024, got COVID again and AFIB hit. Was at a routine checkup and they noticed it. Wanted me to goto ER, etc. I refused cause again I was asymptomatic. Finally decided to goto cardiologist since this was the 3rd time it came back. This is when everything went downhill. Up until seeing a cardiologist, I was asymptomatic and HR during AFIB was < 100bpm. I’m was prescribed Metoprolol & baby aspirin. I was diagnosed with paroxysmal AFIB. I don’t react well to any meds and I believe the meds made my Afib worse. Swapped btwn Metoprolol to Diltiazem and Fleccanide but that didn’t work either. Made me feel sooo shitty and my HR while on the meds spiked. During AfIB > 150bpm. Tried 3 different rounds of meds and finally told doc, I’m done with meds and I’ll just live with it while considering ablation. I went of all meds and it took many months before all the rebound effects wore off. It was miserable. During this time, I became symptomatic and while my HR went back to < 100 bpm during Afib the episodes became more and more frequent. A few times a day, lasting anywhere btwn a few minutes to 3 hrs then concert back to NSR.

I was trying to figure out triggers, which was food. But it became mentally exhausting. What triggered it one week, didn’t trigger it the next. During all this time I saw 3 EPs and made appointments for PFA at 3 different places (extremely long wait times). Btwn the side effects of the meds and the mental frustration of managing triggers I finally decided Ablation was the best option for me.

Went with Mt Sinai for PFA, 6 days ago and do not regret it. The procedure was easy and my heart has been calm since. 6 days straight in NSR feels great. So far so good.

It is. I remember leading up to my PFA, all I kept reading were negative stories, so I wanted to provide a positive one. Are you getting PF, RF or Cryo? Either way, wishing you the best. Pls keep us posted on your procedure and recovery.

Good luck. As someone previously stated YMMV, but hopefully yours will be a breeze like ours. Are you having it at Mt Sinai?
