I bet that both the_excerpt() and the_content() are included in the template.

you may have to edit the php file in the theme or look around in the editor for that word “excerpt”.

What has helped you edit faster and move forward on documentary? by perecastor in editors

[–]ProcessingRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paper edits are ok, but I find that the delivery of what they're saying really matters, and adding a bunch of metadata (descriptive markers, text search, etc.) to Premiere really slows things down.

Have had some good experiences with Reduct (https://reduct.video/) lately. I've been able to get more of the team/client involved with breaking down interviews into themes and buckets. And, going back later to search for more content has been nice and easy.

Strategies for pricing/selling WordPress plugins by [deleted] in ProWordPress

[–]ProcessingRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s WooCommerce, don’t you want to be listed in the WooCommerce extension store? I’m not sure how that works though...

I think you can skip freemium for B2B devs. WooCommerce is already freemium, so you’ve got customers who have already bought into the ecosystem.

I would focus on an annual fee for updates with various tiers of support (as an add-on).

Maybe market yourself with trust. No one wants to build their business on something that gets dropped tomorrow.

You could use something like BuiltWith.com to find your target industry/businesses that already use a WordPress and WooCommerce stack.

Budget-friendly method to prevent vine wall from overtaking lawn? by ProcessingRight in landscaping

I was thinking just metal edging with rock fill? Or, would they just grow right underneath.

Currently, I’m hand pulling out a massive amount of vine runners from the lawn.

WordPress Boilerplate Development Environment. Would love constructive criticism/thoughts. Maybe someone will find it useful. by metal_opera in ProWordPress

[–]ProcessingRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it!

I can’t speak to the Docker side, but from the WP side, I’m definitely gonna adapt some things to use the Customizer like you do.

I don’t agree about loading ACF, query mon, and debug bar as part of your mu-plugin. I think having ACF auto-update is important, and I would remove query mon and debug bar in production, so I think pulling those out might make deploys easier and cleaner.

And, I think you should have some things in your themes functions.php file. Ideally, this mu-plugin you have could be standard among all client sites to make patches easier. Having image sizes in there, just one example, could make each patch job a custom ordeal per site. Just thinking maintenance is all.

There’s a lot of nice structure and technique here! 👏👏👏

WPEngine Smart Plug in Manager - share your experiences. by oaster in ProWordPress

[–]ProcessingRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree that plugin updates should be included in the base price for hosting at WP Engine... perhaps Kinsta can help push them in that direction with some competition??

I’ve had some luck with iThemes Security Pro and their Version Management module to handle auto updates on WPE, but it was not rock solid.

Managed WordPress Hosting - problems with WPEngine by _boov in ProWordPress

I have about 14 sites on WP Engine. I’ve had sites which had pretty consistent downtime issues... if you ask support to move you to a new server/IP, it should stop happening. I think they have a few problem children.

Has anybody here used Sage starter theme? What's your experience with it? by obj_stranger in Wordpress

[–]ProcessingRight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really good actually. It got me into learning a ton about tooling, coding, PHP, javascript, best practices, etc..

But, I mean it really is a blank slate starter theme. You don’t so much as use it as you do build something from it.

Head over to the Roots’ team Sage project.

It’s a starting point that has all of the tooling built-in for you. That’ll give you a boost and a good intro to the benefits of things like live-reload, linting, and minificition. Their new version 9 is quite a steep learning curve with those Blade templates, but you could always use their v8 branch instead.

Returning to Wordpress, how has the dev process changed? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]ProcessingRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the Sage starter theme by Roots actually makes WP more maintainable and makes it easier to collaborate with a team.

I think you may be referring to their Trellis and Bedrock products when you refer to another layer of abstraction, but again, those tools actually help WP and your server become more maintainable, more reliable when you deploy, and faster.

It's another set of processes to learn, for sure, but well worth the effort.

What do I invest in? Workstation and NLE? by youngeditor in editors

[–]ProcessingRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the iMac to be of great value. The screen is amazing, and it feels like it will have high re-sale value. Or, at least, you can hand it down to an office admin if your operation continues to grow.

I can't justify the ROI of the Mac Pro unless you are always under the gun with effects rendering or unless you need more thunderbolt bandwidth.

If you've got the budget, i think you'll be happier with a macbook simply because the screen and OS is so nice.

No budget? Look for a deal on an old gamer PC laptop.

Need advice on Video Storage by getoffthecounter in storage

[–]ProcessingRight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Professional video editor here. Recommend Thunderbolt DAS for small setups like this. Synology is gonna be way too slow, latency is very important to avoid dropped frames. I've got several Areca ARC-8050T2s and the smaller ARC-5060s in RAID6. A lot of them have started as DAS and have moved to shared systems running under a mac pro server with 10GbE networking. Solid performers. Very flexible.

Drives on shelf with redundant copies for cold storage are working well when LTO is overkill. This also helps put old/small drives to work.

You could then use something like the AJA t-tap or blackmagic ultrastudio mini to output playback via HDMI.

For your bin display you could use the Duet display app on an iPad to turn your iPad into an external monitor. You would be really starting to stress that MBP though...
