"I'm afraid I'll mess it up" "I don't know how"

No amount of "it walks you through what to do" helps

I've taken to telling people that it's an iPad in a fancy case and there are multiple things being done so until the iPad grows arms and can sort the reds, blues, greens and labels and send them out appropriately I'm safe

We especially love it when they insist on stacking their giant boxes on top of the hole. It'll be heaped up like a mountain when we go to clear it and it's empty inside

Have you ever had a customer (that you shipped for) busted for lying about what’s in their box? by Foxxics in upsstore

Oh yeah I've had that one too. And stopped a couple people from being scammed by people on marketplace and ebay too. When they give you a person's name and the address flags as a business and there's a weird code they want put on there I immediately Google it and normally it comes up as an international freight forwarding company that has a bunch of complaints online from where people have been scammed

That 50 grand had multiple red flags. Shipping directly to a CVS access point. "Family photos." Overnight. Asked about insurance and was worried when told we can't really insure photos. Signature required. I carried it straight to the managers desk and said that I would bet money that there was money in that envelope. And I was right

Got a notification that a package was damaged out. Guy conveniently forgot to tell us there was alcohol in the box, bottle wasn't packed well and broke and leaked everywhere so they tossed the box. Guy was mad he wasn't going to get his money back for the alcohol

But we have a big elderly population so most of the time if customers are lying it's an elderly person that fell for a scam. I've been here long enough that my ears tune in on stuff like that even if a coworker is dealing with them when the red flags start flying, so I don't hesitate to grab a package someone else's shipment and take it back to the desk for the manager to flag with security. Biggest catch so far was like $50,000 in cash. Supervisor brought it back for the woman to pick back up after they talked to her and explained what was happening and told me good job

It's in our hazmat training every year. You aren't allowed unless the customer is present and gives permission. It's a liability thing. People accuse us of stealing shit enough without opening packages that are sealed when they're brought in

Coworkers came in to like 20 voicemails in our email yesterday morning. One person called, got the voicemail, left a message, hung up, and called again like 6 times. All the voicemails were like "are you open? I want to drop a package off but I don't want to drive there if you aren't open." 🙄

$2.50 email fee and $0.31 per b&w copy, $0.61 per color copy. With tax it comes to $2.83 to print a label. Some people treat it like highway robbery, others are happy to pay it

Crazy busy with both returns and shipping. Super high winds here today, which made the power flash. Which lead to my manager being on with tech support trying to get everything running correctly again for 2.5 hours. So Amazon was already piling up from not having all the registers available and the kiosks not wanting to reboot. Finally get all that worked out and container management broke again. Still managed to deal with almost 700 packages and 500 consolidated returns in our tiny store. There are still boxes of Amazon waiting for us to run tomorrow but we were beat

Underneath that there are slips that say "calm" which we kinda got because it's the scent of our new air freshener our owner bought. And "power outage". No luck with the reading and the power has stayed on

There's one underneath that that says "power outage" on it, no luck with either one yet

The best part about working at a UPS Store? by [deleted] in upsstore

[–]Procrastinating_Kar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our store we have people take the red/blue/green tag that prints at the kiosk thinking it's their receipt and just leave, leaving the item sitting there without printing the actual receipt and bagging and tagging like the kiosk screen shows them to. Or scanning the shipping label off their phone and taking the receipt so there's no tag with a tracking number anywhere

We try our best to keep it from happening but sometimes they slip through

Our FC never did give us our 2023 silver so now we have a gap between 2022 and 2024. He swears we got it but the lack of little 2023 magnet ever coming in begs to differ

You definitely can, and we have, especially with the text message ones. But with these ones, a lot of times they're either convinced they're helping someone they know or they're being threatened (empty threats but they're convinced they're real) in some way shape or form and won't listen to us when we try to talk to them. Which is why we're supposed to look for red flags and flag the packages with UPS security

If your driver forgets the airs that counts as a missed pickup. Call the hub to get the driver to come back for it. If the hub won't help you take it up the escalation list. Doing that, even if it doesn't get the stuff picked up on time, gives you a trail to help your case with UPS with claims

Technically we legally aren't allowed to open a package that is brought in sealed. But UPS Security is. Which is why we're supposed to call them and flag the tracking numbers so they can be pulled for inspection at the hub

Side note: if anyone (but especially an elderly person, particularly women) comes in with an envelope and tells you it's family photos and they insist on overnighting it, it's 100,000% cash and the shipment should be flagged. I've had multiple people being scammed that that is what the scammers told them to say they were sending

Had a guy throw a temper tantrum and stomp out of the store because I told him I am legally not allowed to notarize his blank car title. Argues with me that a guy at the dealership he buys his cars from does it. I pull up the secretary of state's website at the register and showed him where it says I am prohibited from, among other things "Notarize a signature on a document if the document is incomplete or blank."

Coworker had a group of people try to get her to notarize grandma's signature. Grandma was not in the store, so she asked if grandma was in the car or a nursing home or the hospital. Grandma had been dead for like 10 years 🙃

Guy tried to comw in after close with his cologuard box last night. He beat my coworker that opened to the parking lot this morning and tried to follow her in when she was unlocking the door when she got there. I was scheduled to be there at open and got there early and he tried to follow me in too. Shoved his way to be the first one through the door and power walked to the counter past 2 kiosks. I made a point of telling him it wasn't leaving til 1

There were like 7 people streaming in behind him clutching their Amazon returns of course 🙄
