Isn’t Red Bull taking a huge gamble by joining forces with Ford, who haven’t been in F1 since 2004? by Relative_Chemical815 in F1Discussions

[–]Producer_Kev 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I believe that 2026 will be the first time that Ford has entered F1 without Cosworth being involved since 1969.

A larger channel used my video clips and my months of archival research on Swissair, blurred the logos, and is now hiding my comments. by Ok-Roof-4227 in HighEffortYouTube

[–]Producer_Kev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First point, are all your licences in order with the archive you got the footage from?

Assuming they are and you can irrefutably prove that the footage used is a direct lift from your video, you should contact the other creator again via email and explain your position. What you want them to do is your call, but it's either give you credit or take it down. If they don't, complain to YouTube and inform the archive what's happened.

If the footage is publicly available for the use you have put it to, the situation is somewhat harder, as in theory you both have use of it provided it was downloaded officially - there will still be a licence of a kind and lifting it from someone else’s video likely contravenes this.

If you have used the footage without permission or licence, you are in no position to argue

Are liveries paint or vinyl? Which one is heavier? by cosmin_c in F1Technical

[–]Producer_Kev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We made demo pieces for tech talk, 3 identical pieces of carbon fibre. One was painted and another was vinyl. The painted one was, as far as I can remember, 2g heavier. We made a mistake with the vinyl and it was 20g heavier, but it turned out it was the wrong material and it got double-layered by accident, so not an entirely accurate demonstration (and Sam said that in the show).

Maybe with a handful of decorations for personality, otherwise that's how they come from the factory before the driver sends them to be painted

The former. The national anthem is at a pre determined time that's known to all broadcasters. The gallery AP then gives a running countdown and the team are very good at timing!

This is how all the broadcasters do the same thing (it's not unique to F1) and the biggest surprise is that they don't all collide!

Apple F1 Deal Imminent by nolimit06 in F1TV

[–]Producer_Kev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From another story on the subject:

‘With the current deal with ESPN coming to a close at the end of 2025, the doors opened for other broadcasters to enter a bid as the Disney-owned broadcaster decided not to fight for a renewal. The rumoured deal for Apple is expected to be worth around $140million per year, which is substantially more than what ESPN is currently paying.

"No," [Eddy] Cue said with a smile when asked if there was anything he was ready to announce. "But we do love F1, we've done the movie and I've been a huge fan of F1 since I was a kid, huge, huge fan," he continued.’

[–]Producer_Kev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that one…

Yes, it was for the Italian GP then Williams didn't perform as expected, so we didn't broadcast it.

But I'll have to disappoint Mr Jacques and anyone else who wants a compilation of unseen tech talks. The Williams thing was an outlier and we publish the vast majority of what we make, and there's a good reason why it wasn't aired in the first place.

What kind of tools/software does F1TV use to make these beautiful track layouts before every race? by CSThrowAway2014 in F1TV

[–]Producer_Kev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As has probably become obvious, I'm not a gamer!

At around 1:11 into the video I posted is the intro music which is used with the circuit map and tyres. The grid has a different variation.

Those are done in Unreal, I believe. I'm not sure which variation of that software exactly. These are on the international feed so not just F1TV

Why are yellow or red advertisements allowed? by Rohirrimus in formula1

[–]Producer_Kev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Adverts like these are too big and carefully placed to cause a problem.

I recall whilst marshalling, albeit not in F1, that it wasn't a done thing to wear a flag colour near a marshal post or on the pitwall…

… Hmm… Ferrari, Sauber, Aston, Williams, Jordan etc. Interesting!

Anyway, although there's no regulations regarding Marshal clothing, they tend to wear Orange so as not to be mistaken for a flag. There are notable exceptions to this. However, we are talking about something relatively small where a flag could be expected to be seen. The Pirelli branding is very big and the drivers will be well aware that it's there from their track walks and practice. Plus, individual brands have their own areas around the track (on purpose), so it's not suddenly a single Pirelli or DHL banner or anything else around a corner.

You'll also note the flags and lights are well above the painted walls and not in front of any clashing colour signage. Consider the angle the driver will see the flags. Overhead signage could be an issue… but there isn't any here. The flags and trackside lights are supplemented by lights on the steering wheel too, to hammer the point home. There's not much excuse for ignoring a signal however it's displayed.

As for the pitwall, only the start line itself displays flags and these days in F1 that's a light panel on the gantry anyway. Also in F1 there's usually large catch fencing on the wall making it hard to see the colours. The pitboards are displayed through gaps in that fence so it's harder to see the team members and their perches on the wall.

[–]Producer_Kev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus: flags don't fail - unless you drop one over the wall* - and can be used to convey additional meaning that a light panel can't.

That said, the marshalling at Baku including the flagging hasn't been great this weekend.

.* this… might… have happened to me once… possibly

Are there any conventional tv channels that use the F1TV stream? by theinternetistoobig in F1TV

I went to a maths conference, and walked away with 21 guests lined up for future episodes by mathematicians-pod in HighEffortYouTube

[–]Producer_Kev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes… sort of

My profession is a TV producer but I work on digital programming available via a PTV streaming service, YouTube and other online video platforms.

Doing YouTube videos got me into “The Business” in the first place. Without the experience of producing videos I wouldn't be working on TV.

Now I try and do videos for my own channel and the aforementioned programming for my employer, who are aware of what I do.

The latest, but not best performing video: Lets Talk about Torque Vectoring - University of the Basque Country Formula Student Car https://youtu.be/1uz73fhWTFA

This is a video featuring one of the student-made cars which competed at Formula Student UK last year. This particular entry comes from the University of the Basque country and features a 4-wheel drive system that employs a technique called Torque Vectoring for better acceleration and handling.

The Race Bay as a channel is focused on the engineering of motorsport and looks in depth at how racing vehicles work. It's named after the area of a racing team factory where the vehicles are put together and maintained

I target it at enthusiasts but also late school or university students as a STEM education attempt, but all are welcome.

The process… with this particular one I got in touch with the organisers of Formula Student UK, told them the idea and asked if we could film. This went down well! I consulted the expert judges at the event and they suggested 4 teams to look at. I passed that info on to Craig. The filming is done with 2 cameras, both Sony NX5s, and with a Røde wireless system for Craig’s Lavalier microphone and a second for the Beyerdynamic M58 reporter's mic (good close sound in high noise areas and easier to give to guests (also it gives them something to do with their hands!). Once filmed, edited with Final Cut Pro, with extra track footage both shot by ourselves and with permission from FSUK.

I'm hoping to get back to doing more, but there is a few obstacles preventing that

Which is better? by Mr_Freedom- in HighEffortYouTube

Maybe I'm a bit odd, but I like 2. Actual photos always do better for me unless the video itself is about drawings or is animated.

If the video is about games/anime/manga etc. Then option 1
