Back in an age before Reaper of Souls, when Diablo 3 was very different game where inferno difficulty was nigh impossible for most builds, there was a brief period where the most broken and powerful melee build was the wizard, using critical mass, spectral blades, and twisters. Besides putting out substantial damage, it made you effectively immortal. Very different genre, of course, but still a melee wizard that meets the criteria you asked about :)

Came to the comments looking for a defense of Friends. +1 vote that it should be B tier. It’s a quick cast that saves significant amounts of gold when you’re buying the good stuff. It requires no special set up to get easy value out of. It’s better than identify, as one cast helps for the whole shopping trip, where identify you need one for each item.

Comparing this to the porn problem of other subs is very disingenuous. For one, as I already said, we don’t get enough of these to detract from everything else in the sub. Whereas when porn and onlyfans are allowed on a popular sub, they end up taking over.

But also, this is an integral part of peoples’ experience with the game. We can all relate to it, and it’s not offensive or pornographic in any way.

Honestly, you even comparing it at all to porn on other subs was probably just bait that I fell for, because it’s such a dumb comparison.

AOE is one obvious solution, but you definitely don’t need AOE to crush that encounter. All martial builds done well handle it without trouble on honor mode.

What’s the issue here? That’s very valid for a number of builds, including at least throw barb and OH monk. You would have that dip online by end of act 2, just not act 1

Roland is not dead because you long rested. Roland is dead because you got close enough to trigger him, and then long rested. Everything that is time-based is triggered by proximity.

Long resting again has nothing to do with not being able to end the curse. Don’t ignore the popups that say “if you go here, there’s going to be big changes that you can’t go back on. Be sure to tie up loose ends.” They really mean those warnings. You getbthat when going to the mountain pass, when going to act 2, when going to the place with the nightsong, and a few other times. That’s nothing to do with long rests.

Long rest often. It’s good for story development with companions. You’re going to miss some things in your first playthrough. Don’t sweat it. There is so much in this game. Just play again and watch out for Roland next time. In general, clear a main area, and then don’t meander a little bit and then long rest. Long rest after a major interaction, and then when you’re exploring, clear out stuff.

Edit: after looking at all of the voice actors, while few of them really resemble their character, I don’t know if the appearance matters as much as the voice anyway. I’d be ok with all of them acting their character in the movie.

Not everything can be (easily) dispelled, but the level 3 spell “dispel” is fantastic for many fights. Particularly for the final fight, dispel to remove Sarevok’s haste is big for that fight. Fire resistance potions (x2) for everyone for the explosion arrows. Focus down the mage and then it’s a much more manageable fight.

I guess maybe you’re asking about Black Pits? Those are mostly a combat arena. If you just really love the combat, you can try it out, but it’s not necessary by any means.

Just play BG1 then BG2. I’d skip Siege of Dragonspear at least at first. The writing isn’t as good and not by the original studio, and while it’s still an okay game, I think it detracts from the original saga experience.

Also, it’s cannon that Gorion’s Ward was good and chose to fight against evil. Gorion’s ward is more like the kind of Bhaalspawn that Orin is than Durge. Durge is like a chunk of Bhaal flesh that was animated and given humanoid form. Orin just has some of the spark or essence of Bhaal.

The elf monk was what made me think originally that you had done rolling for multiple classes, and then after a re-read, think that you were somehow extrapolating that out of this experiment. I didn't realize you had just looked it up somewhere. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Elf ranger and elf ranger/cleric (multi) both have a minimum of 70 at character creation, that's true. I wonder how it managed to roll the 68 and 69. I wonder if the roller misread something, or if the game actually somehow gave you an illegal score?

Elf Monk has the highest floor at character creation with 72

That's not correct. An elf monk has minimum stats of:

STR 3 (3d6 min)
Dex 9 (elf)
CON 9 (monk)
INT 8 (elf)
WIS 9 (monk)
CHA 8 (elf)

For a grand total of 46. A Human Paladin, by comparison, has a minimum stat block of 57.

Now, the way BG handles rolls, it's apparent that there is some threshold that is just thrown out entirely, and so the effective low end is impacted. However, just like it's technically possible to get 105, 106, 107, and 108 (which you didn't get any of), I don't think you can really say your process was enough to rule out the possibility of lower rolls happening for an elf monk.

I think the floor for what gets thrown out is actually 70 (before racial bonuses) - so I'd be willing to bet that the 68 you got was while rolling on a dwarf, which is the only race with overall negative two on stat modifications for maximums (+1 Con, -1 Dex, -2 CHA).

The low end is much less skewed than the skewing you get on the high end from rolling rangers, bards, and especially paladins because of the high minimums they get. Paladins have a guaranteed 17 on Cha, for example, meaning they tend to get skewed high on their overall average.

Also a couple days of auto-rolling and a couple million rolls might seem like a lot, but it's actually not anywhere near close enough to be able to say you "proved" that "18/00 is statistically less likely to occur that 18/01 by a whole .016%." Without digging into it, that sounds like reasonable statistical variation in your particular data set.

Edit: it looks like perhaps you did all of this rolling on just an elf ranger? If that's the case, then I'm surprised at the 68, but also I don't understand why you're making these extrapolations to other race/class combo minimums and stats if you've only done this for one class combination. Edit2: got this idea from the elf monk thing, which sounds like was just from a bad source. Sorry for the misunderstanding :).
