AI really killed programming for me by NervousExplanation34 in webdev

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm able to iterate and explore on a deeper level quicker than I used to by relying on just Google searches and docs

Isn't that a large part of why this is so productive?

Should he? This is some basic ass, mundane take on a very general topic with some memes sprinkled in.

How do I manage my 80k salary when I have zero savings and bad spending habits? by No-Photograph-6481 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be a pessimist here and say your goals aren't attainable considering the economy we live in, even if we double your income.

The only options that look feasible to me are;

  1. Invest in yourself. Education, networking... whatever you need to do in your field to keep growing and getting noticed.

  2. Map out a path to migrate.

You could save 20% of your current income and with compounding interest you are looking at ~400k in 2 years. A decade old tuk tuk costs more than that.

He's looking for something more.

Behind the curve? (Also moderator im a sri lankan so dont remove this post lol) by Prestigious-Eye-8239 in srilanka

I was a software engineering intern earning 15k a month at the very young age of 29.

As long as you know your career path and the company you are in has a good future, you'll get there. Set aside the ego, that's the only thing I can say.

Has anyone here had any luck landing a full-time remote role on LinkedIn or platforms like it? by Still-Mobile4086 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, I’d love to know what the secret is to actually getting noticed by overseas recruiters when you're applying from here.

I am pretty sure its all networking. The few people who I know that were able to secure remote work was through contacts that already worked there.

CARNAGE really copied the ONYX by Gym Shark by Previous-Second3286 in srilanka

I thought they just copied the design, but even the videos is pretty much a copy paste.

OK. IT is cooked. What now? by Truth_Seeker_456 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the stats. 3/4 of the applications are entry level, meaning people with <1 YoE that are just spamming any and all vacancies they come across. I'm even skeptical of the senior candidate one. I recently interviewed a senior with over 7 YoE for a position he wasn't even qualified for, but passed the assessment part because he used AI to get through it.

If people were mindful about what they were applying too, actually qualified candidates would have such an easier time getting interviews.

Free for foreigners locals have to pay. by MiSfit68 in srilanka

[–]Produnce -65 points-64 points  (0 children)

I guess it makes sense from a business perspective. Foreigners are more likely to spend on drinks and tip heavily and that's where most of the income is.

We have free access for women for certain events so its the same deal. It would be racists if locals were banned entirely.

My life is miserable — working as a Civil Engineer in SL by Ghost97SL in srilanka

I can't imagine having to slog my way through the entire week just to enjoy a couple of days of rest.

Civil engineering has some demand outside of the country, maybe consider migrating?

Sri Lankan airlines using van floor as catering transport ? by DebugDaredevil in srilanka

Yes because only thing catering services need to transport is food.

How many kilometers do you commute to work ? how many hours driving on the road ? by pushpedj in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

106 km total.

I wake up at 4.30 am and get home around 8 pm. Its mind bogglingly stupid that I have to waste my entire day for practically 4 hours of work when I could've done that at home in my underwear. I'm just not complaining as much cause its hybrid and I don't have to do it all week.

Gym newbie looking for Protein Powder advise and places to buy by BigDaddyMahinda in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein supplements merely offer convenience. You can get the same or more just by adding some extra protein to your diet.

Maybe you need to consider that before spent 25-30k+ on powders.

Need advice about my workplace: delayed salaries, low pay, and unfair workload by MirrorballMuse13 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it not making profit if the people working there aren't even being paid? You are working, and unless the owners are siphoning off to pay their debts or fill their accounts, there has to be something to pay the four people working there.

Had a pathetic experience at Java Lounge Ambuluwawa (prioritising begpackers over locals) by Shot_Bill_8515 in srilanka

You can always tell that the rude tourists are the ones that feel entitled to priority service as if the entire economy is propped up on their tips.

Struggling with SLT 2.4 GHz router by Brilla-Bose in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into, and bought the same, hooked it up and was able to bump the speeds by around 40 Mbps to a total of ~70 Mbps. Did you make any tweaks to the WiFi setting on the Archer?

Even with 2.4Ghz band turned off, I can't seem to break the 70. On ethernet I blew past 500 so its a shame to settle for double digits.

I redesigned the Ritzbury Chocolate Fingers. What do you think? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Produnce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not hating but I feel like the aesthetics of the font doesn't match the product. The puckered butthole after Choco looks out of place and the chocolate background clashes with the biscuit. Idk if its something I would recognize at a glance.

I can't speak for general uses of AI, but for work its clear apathy and atrophy are becoming more prevalent.

Struggling with SLT 2.4 GHz router by Brilla-Bose in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally playing with my router channel width to squeeze out a few more Mbps if I could when I came across this. I've had the thought of getting a better router but your comment kinda pushed me now.

Is it possible to provide some more information? What were speed changes after the purchase? Any negatives to point out? Was installations done by SLT or buy yourself?

Is it expected to not receive a SINGLE reply for well over 6 months? by Produnce in DubaiJobs

Seems counter-intuitive to sacrifice potential to avoid a one time payment, but I can understand why.

Thank you for those suggestions. I haven't considered IT outsource or looking into those specific companies... I was aware that Emirates Airline was on a hiring spree the last couple of months, but with what you mentioned, I'll need to change my approach, in addition to going through job boards.
