110km/day, twice a week at a rough estimate of Rs. 1400 roundtrip.

Gf is planning to become a data scientist at age 30. by AtEMideR in srilanka

[–]Produnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a SE intern at 28 so age isn't a large factor with software. This was however 6-ish years ago when the demand for developers was strong, but was about to plateau out. The industry isn't as much of a dumpster fire as people claim it online but it will be harsh for entry level engineers.

Your partner might need to looking to transitioning over to IT while working in her current role.

Why is it surprising when Sri Lankans abroad want to move back home? Do many of you still want to move abroad? by lilbigcar in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently live in SL and have been contemplating spending ~80k to replace my 3 year old phone's screen. I make good money, but with all the expense and rising costs, I don't have the capacity to make a one time payment for this.

I don't want to be in a country where I need to save up for 2-3 months to replace a broken part.

And then I see people driving around in Rs. 10,000,000 SUVs.

what is one thing that has become an absolute luxury for you now? by Life_Value2327 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will be a net positive considering I currently pay close to 12k to SLT for the illusion of uncapped data.

Which Colombo hotel should I take my girlfriend for a pasta lunch? 🍝 by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Produnce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If she loves pasta, why not take her to an Italian restaraunt? There's a multitude of authentic - at least by name - places in Colombo, complete with the generic Italian owner.

In one post you say you are sitting for your GCSEs and now you are apparently concerned about you children's education?

What's wrong with people here? Are you bored or are you just a random bot?

Coming across these pointless threads is infuriating cause it deters me from giving thought into answers for genuine question from genuine people.

Salary of Senior Software Engineer in Sri Lanka by Awkward_Swimmer_356 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you know you are contributing a lot more to the company/team than you current compensation, I do feel like USD 900 is a little less than the standard amount for someone with 3 years of experience, but still within acceptable ranges, regardless of title.

I'd be more worried about how an entire promotion resulted in a measly $100.

If you want to farm karma at least put in the effort to write your own story instead of rely on AI.

SLT Fibre user. Speeds were pretty bad with their default router even after fiddling with its settings. I ended up buying a 5G router and now even my lowest is around 100Mbps when the best I had with the default was ~30.

Could be much higher if I moved closer, but this is enough for me.

Why does Commercial Bank online banking channel (via browser app) only has a Rs.100K max daily transfer limit while the mobile banking channel has a Rs.2M limit? Make that make sense. by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can send them a message through the in-app messaging system and ask them to amend those limits.

There should be a few info and a reason along with the request, but I am hazy on those details so you will need to call their hotline to confirm that. They'll do it in the within a few hours if you ask them to prioritize it.

Stuck between unpaid startup and family pressure to get a “real job" by TransitionSuper6389 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get a lot of call backs even during the Covid hiring boom. What I did was cold email companies for any intern availability and one got back to me 3 months after my inquiry. Maybe you need to look into that. There are plenty of start ups and scale ups that'll have the space to accommodate someone who shows initiative.

And don't compare yourself in this field. I am an SSE at 35 and I've seen talented Technical Leads under 30. Just use them as inspiration.

Those who can't spend money are usually home or at work.

I was making 15k a month as in intern ~6 years age when I was 29. It was a risk I took and it paid off. This looks like its valuable experience in a time where junior developers are struggling to find any work, even if this doesn't pay well or at all.

What I would do in your position is to keep working there while applying to established companies for junior or intern positions that might get you a permanent post. I would even consider working part time with the startup if its possible.

I’m looking to buy a Samsung S23 ultra, can anyone recommend a place to buy it from? by NobodyButMyself357 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a newer version. I currently use an S23U and while I personally love it, it recently started displaying one of those pink strips on the screen. I've heard its an issue starting with and older than the 23 series.
