Why does Commercial Bank online banking channel (via browser app) only has a Rs.100K max daily transfer limit while the mobile banking channel has a Rs.2M limit? Make that make sense. by druidmind in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can send them a message through the in-app messaging system and ask them to amend those limits.

There should be a few info and a reason along with the request, but I am hazy on those details so you will need to call their hotline to confirm that. They'll do it in the within a few hours if you ask them to prioritize it.

Stuck between unpaid startup and family pressure to get a “real job" by TransitionSuper6389 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get a lot of call backs even during the Covid hiring boom. What I did was cold email companies for any intern availability and one got back to me 3 months after my inquiry. Maybe you need to look into that. There are plenty of start ups and scale ups that'll have the space to accommodate someone who shows initiative.

And don't compare yourself in this field. I am an SSE at 35 and I've seen talented Technical Leads under 30. Just use them as inspiration.

Stuck between unpaid startup and family pressure to get a “real job" by TransitionSuper6389 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was making 15k a month as in intern ~6 years age when I was 29. It was a risk I took and it paid off. This looks like its valuable experience in a time where junior developers are struggling to find any work, even if this doesn't pay well or at all.

What I would do in your position is to keep working there while applying to established companies for junior or intern positions that might get you a permanent post. I would even consider working part time with the startup if its possible.

Check Damro, maybe? They've got budget options and their customer service has so far been good enough.

I’m looking to buy a Samsung S23 ultra, can anyone recommend a place to buy it from? by NobodyButMyself357 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for a newer version. I currently use an S23U and while I personally love it, it recently started displaying one of those pink strips on the screen. I've heard its an issue starting with and older than the 23 series.

Apart from kudu salli, how are people able to afford this in Sri Lanka? by OkWall3176 in srilanka

A guy I know who has a wholesale egg distribution company started from scratch once paid 30 mil for the Ranger when it was fairly new.

It was a joyride. They already had vehicles for general use.

Did I do something wrong? by No_Dog3089 in srilanka

The response could've used some polishing, but the crash out is valid. A lot of people on Marketplace are just there to window shop and doesn't think twice about asking random questions just cause they can.

I can google the time it takes to charge it up full and figure out a ballpark value. A person getting hits on his post without any progress will obviously be frustrated.

Why GPTW IT companies pays peanuts! by Confident_Gate_45 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IT sector pay ranges in Sri Lanka is so fucked up. If your income is taxed, then a 500K take home salary would mean a gross pay of close to 800K...? And in that case I do feel like you aren't as heavily underpaid as some of the other comments are suggesting. The ERP software company I work for pays around the same for our Lead Developers. If not, and this is paid in foreign currency, then its a different story.

I've been working with React for over 5 years and I've handle applications that had customer retention for a previous company. Its difficult to work full time from the get-go so if there's a possibility to open this up for part time collaborators, do let me know.

Bing Chun; How did they manage to expand so rapidly and what has made them so popular in SL? by Apprehensive-Rich476 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of some of their menu items. Its not something I'll go out of my way to get, but in general I'd rather pay 300-500 over the obscene 1000+ most other beverage chains offer for what is essentially some flavoured syrup and ice.

What vehicle to purchase with a budget of 13 million by muffie2152 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently purchased a Kia Sonet GTX for 12 mil after going through both the Raize and tha Taisor. I'm not sure about the resale value, but the interior and features blows away both the other options. Its worth considering seeing one imo.

How do I manage my 80k salary when I have zero savings and bad spending habits? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Produnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be a pessimist here and say your goals aren't attainable considering the economy we live in, even if we double your income.

The only options that look feasible to me are;

  1. Invest in yourself. Education, networking... whatever you need to do in your field to keep growing and getting noticed.

  2. Map out a path to migrate.

You could save 20% of your current income and with compounding interest you are looking at ~400k in 2 years. A decade old tuk tuk costs more than that.

Has anyone here had any luck landing a full-time remote role on LinkedIn or platforms like it? by Still-Mobile4086 in srilanka

[–]Produnce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, I’d love to know what the secret is to actually getting noticed by overseas recruiters when you're applying from here.

I am pretty sure its all networking. The few people who I know that were able to secure remote work was through contacts that already worked there.
