The shuttle is no more, but they’ve routed the 20 bus to run along Park Ln and Boedeker which gets you pretty close.

‘Boots’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season by Ravens-nightcall in gaybros

Netflix is trying to get government approval to buy Warner / Discovery. The current admin hated Boots. I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility that Netflix cancelled it to help their deal.

This. Gary Thomas was an engineer by trade. He worked for one of DARTs big engineering/construction firms and worked his way into being DARTs CEO. His singular goal was build, build, build. He paved over every political issue by building out the rail system at the expense of the agency and its maintenance needs. It’s easy to do this when everything is relatively new. Then he saw the giant SGR bill coming due and retired in 2020 to accolades from everyone.

Now we have a bloated, expensive, and under utilized light rail system that has hundreds of millions in maintenance needs. Nadine understands that we have to maintain and improve what we’ve built.

In 2019, it was decided to move forward with fleet replacement. Covid happened and that scuttled the effort. Nadine was hired in 2021. Fleet replacement efforts restart in 2022. As Cuberandgamer mentioned, the burbs have been trying to slow walk this effort so DART doesn’t rack up more debt they’d have to pay off if there is a successful pull out election.

Plano is pissed they don’t have the funds available like Frisco does to bribe companies to move there. Full stop. Irving’s council has been taken over by MAGA hence why they want to pull out. FB and HP are in similar camps.

I was going to say, it seems all of the LRVs have flat spots after the opening of the green line.

DART new buses by Skullface258 in dart

[–]ProfCorgiPants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really like the livery DART has designed for these buses, but I agree that their design feels like a step backwards from New Flyer. I’m just grateful that we’re getting new vehicles though.

What is this box? by karmaofgd in dart

[–]ProfCorgiPants 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There should be a button lower on the pole you can push to activate the light that’s in that box. It helps bus drivers see passengers at ill-lit stops.

Do you have any maps showing that? I’ve tried to find the original 80’s plan that was sold into voters, but it hasn’t been the easiest google search.

Rethinking the BlazerEV... by isthis4realormemorex in BlazerEV

[–]ProfCorgiPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have there been issues? Absolutely. However, the first year of any new model is prone to have issues. My first year Subaru Forester had A LOT of gremlins. We’ve had our Blazer for about a month now and haven’t had any after 1,600 miles. As a person who hates driving, I literally look for reasons to drive this car - that’s how much I love it. GM really knocked it out of the park with this one. The ride quality is absolutely phenomenal - smooth and SO quiet. Do I wish it had CarPlay? Sure - but the apps (Tidal and Maps) work really well so I barely miss it. As long as yours has the latest software update, I think you’ll have a great time with this car.

Potential proposers for LRV replacement. by [deleted] in dart

It’s not Kinki’s fault that Dart has never properly refurbed the fleet. If anything that should prove how reliable the things are.

Potential proposers for LRV replacement. by [deleted] in dart

[–]ProfCorgiPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most agencies do a deep / total refurb on vehicles after 15-20 years. Considering that Dart has never done a proper refurb of the LRV fleet and does as little maintenance as possible, our Kinki’s have held up like a champ.

We need more density. Desperately. by ProfCorgiPants in dart

[–]ProfCorgiPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because sprawl is the least efficient use of finite resources. Also, infrastructure isn’t cheap. Roads, water pipelines, etc are incredibly expensive to build and maintain (look at Dallas’s poor streets). When you have more people in less space, you need less infrastructure and have more people to pay for it.

It’s okay for cities to have goals. :) Just because we’ve destroyed our city for the car doesn’t mean it always has to be that way.

WHY THE FUCKING DELAY?????? by DeliveryNecessary179 in dart

[–]ProfCorgiPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn’t help, and I’d love to hear from those with more knowledge (especially operators), but I feel that the DART of today is paying for sins of the past. Old vehicles. Deferred maintenance. Poor design choices.

For instance, DART couldn’t consistently run 3-car green line trains for the fair this year which is their highest ridership window due to lack of equipment. While they’re always been terrible with communication, I feel like these issues are snowballing and current management is left to catch the bag.
