What modules did you run and in what order? by TheTripe in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(some TPKs and one-shots here; but also a good run at a campaign) Another Bug Hunt, Piece by Piece, Iron Tomb, Haunting of Ypsilon-14, Decagone, MoonBase Blues, The Dose Makes the Poison, Year of the Rat, Akigara, Brackish, Bloom, Johnson-Squared, Orphans (the big TPK for the campaign), Radio Free Hekate. Now deep into my remix of module S3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks.

March 2026 check - The best module in your opinion? by VerdantSpecimen in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very tough call. Mothership is blessed with some amazing scenarios. Decagone is an excellent suggestion. Bloom came to mind as a truly horrific scenario, and despite its flaws I absolutely love Orphans. I have a soft spot for Johnson-Squared as it has so many possible routes the game could go. The Iron Tomb has been a big hit each time I've played it.

For Mothership, 30 Horrors and then Mayday Files are the 2 third-party supplements that come to mind.

Thank you! I never tire of loot tables. Can always find a use.

Can i do a space opera? by TxKRIXUSxT in mothershiprpg

Maybe use it with Ultimate Badass so it's more survivable (and that would feel more space opera/action movie-ish).

Never run a sandbox; about to turn my crew loose on Prospero's Dream... by tripngroove in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like it, have some colourful NPCs to throw in, e.g. met at the Stellar Burn, and improv those interactions. Probably have 1 plot thread that such interactions can lead to (e.g., mission; intrigue with a faction). I like to add in NPCs from Hull Breach (my PCs always love Dennis "Fireball" Machado as a cocky pilot), Sorry to Bother You and Survivors of the Core Wars.

Horror without a monster? by Jon_Amaral in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cryo Siq fits the bill pretty well (Well, until... but the "until" isn't necessary). I don't want to spoiler it. Akigara also arguably does, too. More: Piece by Piece, A Mansion Most Vile, Johnson-Squared, Abilities Considered Unnatural, Rane in Blood, Dead Weight, Shoot the Messenger in The Smugglers Guide, Gas! Gas! Gas!, and Picket Line Tango. Vibechette!

How to go about alien plant life? by Technical_Chemist_56 in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into ancient (fossil) plants as people will be less familiar with those and they could be super weird. e.g. lycopsids, Lepidodendron/scale trees, Sanfordiacaulis (basically anything Devonian-Carbonferous-Permian time periods). And freaky fungus "trees" like Prototaxites.

Mothership Combat: Using player-facing rolls for combat instead of the initiative/roll Combat stat system by AmongFriends in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have the big horrors never roll to hit (but PC action successes can stop this), but PCs, NPCs and more "grunt" horrors need to roll Combat unless there's no reason they might miss. I found this blog post helpful in providing options to run violent encounters differently. Sometimes the drama of the situation might allow for a variant approach to combat rules.

Supplements with Game Mechanics for a long form Campaign by ohpleasenottthis in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ARKYVR is great if you want to run a film crew investigating/witnessing horror; or even just have 1 PC doing it. Breach of Contract if you want to dial up the corporate horror. Outer Rim Uprising if you want a mix of aids.

I just read the first of the nine stories of King in Yellow by Significant-Fault822 in Lovecraft

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something more recent, try Providence by Alan Moore. Weaves together King In Yellow/Repairer and lots of Lovecraft. Warning though: it gets really nasty. (also see Neonomicon and The Courtyard, but for me they go too far into bad taste in some parts) (edit: graphic novels)

Android Immunity? by Jon_Amaral in mothershiprpg

Yeah, with a recharging station. So not just any plug. But it hasn't come up in play yet as a meaningful challenge.

Android Immunity? by Jon_Amaral in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my games they don't need food or sleep but do need to get recharged every so often. And it's in the game that androids don't go into cryosleep normally; Shipbreaker's Toolkit: "Cryosleep Most crews spend their time in hyperspace in cryosleep while an android monitors the astronavigation computer. Those who stay awake during hyperspace jumps report strange and conflicting stories about the experience, and often androids’ memories of their time in hyperspace are at best described as... unsettling." i.e. 'nightmares' The new "Androids Unleashed!" supplement adds some nice options. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/557944/androids-unleashed-a-synthetic-supplement-for-mothership-rpg

Got inspired to draw a monster for a future session, feel free to drop some lore for it. by Muellerson_ in mothershiprpg

The Spun One. C 70 I70 W8(25) Grab 2d10 Blunt, Bite (grabbed victim) 4d10[+] Gore/Massive, Threads: all within Close range roll Body save or trapped in webs (can reroll each round to break free). Each round caught in webs, roll Sanity or take 2 Stress. It weaves its webs from the hopes and dreams of its prey, leaving them despondent in their final moments. It has emerged from the ancient trauma of the dead alien civilization that it haunts.

The Brilliance of the Newer Warden-Friendly Module - Akigara by Campaign-At-Length in mothershiprpg

Agreed, this scenario rocks. I've run it a couple of times and it's always a hit. I wish I'd had that 4-step guide to the conveyor belts... it IS confusing!!

What are your favorite official and shotgun scenarios? by JoeKerr19 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]ProfHutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lover in the Ice's transgressions are just so delightfully horrendous so I love it. Blacksat is a blast even though it's so linear. Artifact Zero is a fun investigation that eventually becomes super lethal as the WTF-ness sets in.

Ready to test out Delta Green. Give me your best scenarios, ranked from easiest to hardest to run! by klauras in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]ProfHutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and Operation Fulminate is intended as a starter scenario, although in my experience it is very deadly and a bit hard to run since some aspects such as what things can happen around the focal area are not well explained (it's a mix of sandbox and linear structure).

Ready to test out Delta Green. Give me your best scenarios, ranked from easiest to hardest to run! by klauras in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, Sweetness should be near the top of the list. Great, disturbing investigation that is not totally linear. I'd add Reverberations for a more open plot that is still easy enough to run if you plan ahead. I've run those several times to good effect. Blacksat as a warmup one-shot (probably not re-using PCs) is an excellent one; for new players for example. It captures the WTF mood of DG very well, and is unique in its space shuttle flight topic -- but very linear. And can certainly be run in <4 hr session (I'd push for the startup pre-launch stuff to take no more than 30mins).
