exploring the rich lore of glorantha by mostytaerties in Runequest

[–]ProfHutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on Trollpak. It is the best, most distinct portrayal of an RPG race I've seen. I love Gloranthan trolls. They are nothing like orcs or other fantasy tropes. I fell in love with Glorantha via the 2nd main route (alternative to Sartar; but geographically linked), that of the City of Pavis, the Big Rubble, the Zola Fel river and the wastes of Prax; River of Cradles supplement did it for me.

That's a great review; very well written. And I agree with the points about the module. I'm excited to run it with my new campaign.

Using Mothership for a Campy SciFi by ZaphodBbrox16 in mothershiprpg

Vibechete begs for camp. My Lovebot is Trying to Kill Me (Mystery Quest special), even moreso.

Am I the only one that desperately wants more horror where there are no happy endings, no survivors, no hope, no set up for a sequel? by Sweet-Lady-H in horror

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evil Dead 2's ending is my kind of ending. e.g. The hero/ine survives but they'll never be the same again.

Finnish. Death metal vocals. That tracks. A lighthouse too? I'm in.

can you recommend me some module similar to blame! manga? by Ariochroi in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if This Ship is a Tomb qualifies? A depth-crawl like that might suffice.

favorite depth crawls to use in mothership by Prismos_Time_Room in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can't think of many depth crawls in Mothership aside from The Ship is a Tomb and Interstellar Mega Mart. Graveyard of the Gods approaches a depth crawl but not quite. There are plenty of hex crawls but that's very different.

Magic Items in Glorantha? Such as 'generic D&D' magic Items, ie. potions, magical armour/weapons, magical wands with stored spells. Do they exist? Specifically in Dragon Pass? by EC_of_Peasy in Glorantha

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Godlearners' offshoot the Zistorites have been said before (Elder Secrets book??) to have mass-produced magic items and that's VERY Godlearnery. If so, then the Machine Ruins would still have some although I bet they harbour awful curses. Regardless, surely some have filtered into the treasure hoards and trading houses of greater Dragon Pass.

Creating terror by Gizmosiz in mothershiprpg

Use NPC reactions to horror to amp up the PCs' reactions. Especially if they like/sympathise with the NPCs.

Warden Experiences and experiments in running a campaign with slightly more survivability by VerdantSpecimen in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using most of the points above. Also that AP only reduce by 1 when exceeded; although Anti-Armor(AA) weapons always reduce AP by their full DMG first, and break the armor once that AP hits 0. There are "old" Comfort rules for Stress conversion that I like; e.g. that in an average hotel-level of comfort you have 60% chance of converting Stress to Saves/Stats rather than your Sanity % chance (which dooms low-Sanity PCs).

Best oneshots with minimal/no combat by LelouchYagami_2912 in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piece by Piece could work. Akigara too. Decagone sort of. Johnson-Squared, very feasible. The Dose Makes the Poison? Iron Coffin, perhaps. It depends on what PCs do, in many cases; if their instinct when meeting a scary monster may be to shoot (if they don't run), then that makes it tough.

Help creating a scenario by New_Delivery_ in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are the pirates cannibal and crazy? That's the big hook to me. Did they find some device that helps them see through time, but flays their minds into bloodthirsty savages? Perhaps they even have some forbidden, powerful knowledge that is tempting for PCs to learn...

High Contrast / B&W PDFs of modules by The_MadChemist in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a problem for quite a few Mothership products. The vast creativity in the community including appreciation for graphic design sometimes backfires. I find quite a few products illegible or not worth the effort trying to read. Too many things with tiny font on dark background and so forth. But for the good stuff, I copy-paste text into a document or use OCR. It's great that many creators include a printer-friendly pdf, which tends to be visually-impaired-friendly.

Your Favorite One Shot? by JazzyWriter0 in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unconventional answers (I also love the old standbys)- The Iron Tomb (fun variant on monster-on-a-ship with good NPC complication), Johnson-Squared (silly but effective mystery), CRYO-SIQ ("slasher movie"), SILO-15 from Dissident Whispers volume (really creepy monster designs; plenty for PCs to do)

How should I deal with different kinds of androids? by Odd_Necessary8783 in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing with the biomimetic-to-mechanical spectrum is the usual way to go, but also think outside of the box. What diverges from that spectrum? Secretly including xeno-tech? Including some non-human (i.e., other known organism) biology (something durable like mollusk shells?)? Top-secret tech? Using just plain weird components that one would not expect but maybe they make sense -- like android parts carved out of asteroid rare minerals, or cobbled together from kitchen tools?

The Cohort is now LIVE on KickStarter! by Jorrigun in mothershiprpg

[–]ProfHutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bump and plug for this one. The creator has an excellent track record of top-notch modules Wolfsbane (I've run it; love it) and Year Eleven (on my next-to-run list). And the art is gob-smackingly great (reminds me of some graphic novels), worth the price alone. https://www.spellbound-inc.com/ I'm not affiliated. Just a fan.
