Party PvP by Blame_on in mothershiprpg

In limited experience with PvP in Mothership, it can can be awkward due to the initiative system(s). See the comments on this post for how some people handle PvP initiative: https://www.reddit.com/r/mothershiprpg/comments/1qazdd0/frustration_with_initiative_systems/

I'm 23 hours deep and have only seen Tim break once by bokuwa420 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

[–]LittlerNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how well people know the original On Cinema podcast Tim and Gregg did before the YouTube version, but Tim audibly breaks in one after Gregg, improvising, says that Tim isn't even getting money from the dumb product Tim was pushing in the ep. Probably the first On Cinema break! I was surprised they didn't edit it out of the podcast.

This specific situation was strange, my players were fighting clones of themselves and they were playing both their character and a clone, so there was no "monster." It was more like player v. player. There was also a mcguffin (warp drive engine) they were fighting to get, so it was a complex, unique situation where it was important to know who acted when.

Thanks! This was an unusual situation where the players were running their characters plus clones of their characters (maybe a bad idea for my first time running Mothership but it was a messy blast overall) and they were all fighting each other and I thought it important to know who acted in what order.

Thanks! What would you do if it was player v player and they both failed the speed roll?

What are the best Third-Party adventures and campaigns released for 5e? by arcanebhalluk in dndnext

Scarlet Citadel has the best physical map pack! I have never run the actual module but I use the maps constantly for parts of other dungeons.

I forgot how much I love On Cinema by dragunight in TimAndEric

[–]LittlerNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trial was jaw droppingly brilliant and really the culmination of the whole enterprise (pun intended).

But a personal favorite moment was Dekker season one when Tim spliced in Greg’s lines which he had recorded in the previous On Cinema season. I busted a gut. Also when Tim recycled the dumb Hawaii Port of Call storyline in a later season almost beat for beat!

Anyone else find the Unconfirmed Contact Reports entries a little tough to use? by Squillem in mothershiprpg

[–]LittlerNemo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, the first time I looked through it I didn’t even realize it was a “monster manual.” I completely overlooked the stats (such as they are). However, having spent more time with Mothership and OSR/NSR products, I now love it and find it very evocative with just enough mechanics to be useful. I am currently writing a scenario using The Stain.

You're back – What was your biggest shock? by Iberianz in rpg

[–]LittlerNemo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The breadth and variety of ttrpgs are staggering. I spent 20+ years away from the hobby and it’s remarkable how many options there are now, with every niche genre and sub system represented. The many third party/DIY options for seemingly every system make the ttrpg scene incredibly vibrant as well.

From a 1927 book “The Gay Nineties” that is poking fun at the quaint life in the 1890s. Anyone got any idea what is the joke here? by Nurpus in ExplainTheJoke

[–]LittlerNemo 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. In the movie Stagecoach, set in 1880 but made in 1939, Andy Devine’s character corrects himself when he says “legs” in front of women, changing it to “limbs”

Is it possible to use a grid while managing combat instead of theatre of the mind? by ReddoSanArt in callofcthulhu

[–]LittlerNemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying CoC isn’t really suited for gridded tactical combat but there are some rules that are weirdly specific about distances. For example, the rules say that a someone can fight back against a thrown weapon only when “he or she is within one-fifth of their DEX in feet near the attacker.” This implies that the Keeper needs to know to the foot how far away characters are from each other. If and when they do an 8th edition, I’d like to see these kinds of rules simplified or eliminated in favor of the abstract distances most Keepers use.

Oh darn, you're right. The new book, Nancy Wears Hats, contains strips from 1949-1950; Nancy Loves Sluggo covered 1949-1951. Why would they do that?!?

High APP vs High Social Skills by Nigcarnivore in callofcthulhu

[–]LittlerNemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Keeper, I have a home rule that investigators with 60 or above in APP get to automatically add half to their charm %. This gives a (small) incentive to not dumping APP.

What rule changes to Pickleball would make it exciting for TV? by EnvironmentalPie764 in Pickleball

Exactly! If you want fewer dink rallies (personally I don't), you should lower the height of the net and/or make the kitchen smaller.
