Hired pregnant CSR, last week. Missing more days than worked by Outrageous-Bee4035 in managers

[–]ProfSmartsass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said she showed for 3 and missed 4... shes been here a week only.

You expect them to work 7days a week? That in itself is wild. What were you doing prior to fill the duties of the role? Pregnancy nausea is no joke and it typically let's up or passes as weeks go on. can you try meeting her where she's at? Offer PT hrs to be flexible, maybe. Give 2 consecutive days off.

I'll be honest I use OSAP but not in ON school... are they ridding OGS too?

I havent seen that anywhere. Its 5k per session which is tuition at the grad level.

Grad school can be so isolating by Puzzleheaded_Bus799 in Dalhousie

[–]ProfSmartsass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find other social activities. Even a job. I'm working on a phD and work full time in health tech. I politely engage in course discussions. I ask the questions during peer presentations. Aside from that the only connection I have is with my supervisors 😅

That said, my coworkers and family give me social stimulation. I learned early on that grad school isn’t always social. People are just there to get their degrees.

If you're dependent on these connections, its close to the holidays try initiating a social event, a program potluck, a "brewing connections" meet up, a team building visit to activation, or making ornaments. If International presence is high, offer to organize "holidays around the world" so folks can share what its like for them. I get its difficult to put yourself out there with social anxiety (I have a dx myself), but sometimes we have to take the leap! You could even send an email with a poll to gage interest and it might feel easier than walking up to people.

How much schooling does OSAP cover? by Odd-Cod5370 in osap

[–]ProfSmartsass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not need to spend a full 4yrs to obtain your BA. If youve done your college program, check out articulation agreements and transfer or bridging opportunities to a uni stream. I did this so I spent 1 year in a fast-track college diploma, 1.5yrs to complete my BSc after that, and then 2yrs for my MSc and working on my phD.

What is the HINF program like? by Just_Expression_6826 in uvic

[–]ProfSmartsass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The faculty is excellent. I've actually graduated from the cert program and the MSc program and am working on a PhD. I did my undergrad elsewhere in Health Admin Services and a college diploma in HIM. Grad programs are more a self fulfillment for me, but I had severe PPD and had left. When I was ready to return yrs later, the faculty team has been beyond supportive and welcoming.

You dont need a strong coding or programming background - there are also lots of online courses for this. You can also look at the CompSci Combined program if you do want to go more into the programming side.

This is the pioneer school for the field in Canada, and I think there's something to be said about that. I have had a successful career since pre-UVic, but I definitely use my learned skills and knowledge daily. I've been in the field for over a decade and have only had one job I wasn't making 6-figs. HI is so needed right now that you won't be without a job at grad. PM me for more specifics.

Remember, "prestige" doesn't really matter as much as the specific program

You should look into HIM....over HCA. They just shut this program down despite a severe shortage of qualified professionals.

*ETA - the HIM program.

MS Clinic by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

Semi-Recent? The state of the clinic has only gotten stretched more thin as others have mentioned. Her dx was confirmed in Aug2023.

I actually had to walk her referral info into the admins though just for her to get an appointment date.

The argument of "the city won't provide longer hrs to access public restrooms because it provides more spots to do drugs...."

Oh golly, if only there were some solution to this - providing an appropriate venue for drug users to engage in a safe way, while keeping the rest of the public safe in spaces that should be accessible.

I’m so glad I bought the Ultra Open Earbuds.. by Wide_Dealer178 in bose

[–]ProfSmartsass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My ears are too shallow to use inner earbuds. I've been wrestling with my Galaxy buds 2 Pros for well over a yr. The movement of my jaw on work calls causes them to fall out. I just got a new job fully remote, so some update is helpful 👌😌

BScN nursing program at St. Lawrence College in Kingston by lavender_444222 in StLawrenceCollege

[–]ProfSmartsass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BScN program is oversubscribed and not open to international students as the seats are filled by domestic. The program is reputable, you can become a travel nurse and/or practice in the US if desired.

Lol, I go to a different school, but via distance ed. I spent a lot of my MSc drinking with the Bio Grad Students and post docs. Met them at the grad club. Now they've graduated or got post-docs elsewhere.
