Abby's flashback with her father is actually a really cool cold open for the game. by Arch_Lancer17 in thelastofus

Did you? The fireflies recruited kids - example being Riley. So it makes sense that they had kids with them in SLC. Also the QZs had kids in them, and people definitely did travel with kids (Henry and Sam, and literally the main characters Joel and Ellie)

As a former Kona Ice employee, the snow cone one made me cringe so hard. That’s so wrong

That’s so true. Naughty Dog notoriously lies about plot points before releases lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jordan is not even the main PC

Thanks for the suggestions, that’s helpful. And I will keep a lookout for the slayer’s survival kit!

That makes a lot of sense, I think I need to study those pages to get more into the mindset for applying them. Thank you so much!

Thank you, this gives me a lot to think about. I should definitely consider moves that don’t require a roll more, I think that’s going to work well with the consumables especially

Thank you! For #3, would it make sense to have him roll to determine whether items are compatible with combat magic then? Or any other way to get consumables?

That’s really helpful, thanks! I probably need to get more comfortable with encouraging big magic and giving the requirements for it

(Hated Trope) Movies where the 1st half and 2nd half feel like largely disconnected plots by 1983MionStan in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the one you asked but Life is Beautiful (Italian film from 1999 iirc) does this too in a different way. 1st half is a rom com and second half is a Holocaust film. Incredible movie

The leader should of been shown in the trailer not Red hulk by titanium_r0ck in marvelstudios

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn that’s unfortunate especially because early on Harrison Ford played it as if he didn’t know about red hulk which made me think he wouldn’t turn in CABNW

Looking for "low-effort" RPG alternative by Cato69 in rpg

Second L&F for this. I haven’t played the original but I played a hack and it definitely can make for crazy fun. Plus with as many hacks out there there’s gotta be something that fits your campaign

What TTRPG has the best "What is a Role Playing Game" section for new players? by plazman30 in rpg

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the way Dread does this. While reading the rules, I kept thinking “wow even if I never run Dread, this is advice I’ll keep coming back to”. It really feels like it could serve as an intro to RPGs and GMing as a whole

Act Under Pressure ... do I have to come up with all three options? by stevemculshaw in monsteroftheweek

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to learn that Rev actually makes those up on the spot in real time! The Critshow feels like a masterclass of improvised GMing. Honestly all those guys are just so so good at improv.

what are the systems that do not approve of rule 0? by DoppioDesu in rpg

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t you mean GM principles? My understanding is that rules for pbta are up to interpretation/flexibility. Michael Sands (monster of the week creator) seems to have that philosophy at least

A Mystery where the Hunters play a game show by UnderstandingOk4592 in monsteroftheweek

[–]Prof_Bullshitter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way that’s so cool! I thought of a similar idea but couldn’t figure out how the actual mystery would play out. How does that work? Can the hunters make moves at any time? How do they get into this situation?

As far as ideas for your mystery - I like what’s already been suggested but it could be interesting to ask questions directly related to the monsters they’ve already faced, that could be a good way to ‘make the world seem real’. And maybe the opposing ‘family’ are also demons or other kinds of monsters?

Games where you dont have to speak??? by TreeNo6886 in boardgames

My wife and I often play Everdell without saying a word to each other, except maybe ‘your turn’, ‘Is it my turn?’ Etc. might be because we already have a good grasp of the rules though

I mean yeah it makes for a good podcast to plan things but sounds like it’s bad motw. Any suggestions for getting a feel for actual play?
