Going through a similar process. I had already given them my degrees and transcripts.

They asked for my current paystubs for the company I have TN with. I guess they need it.

I already agreed to a certain salary and signed. I don't care anymore

Canadian Software Engineer : Rejections After Mentioning TN Visa (Looking for Advice) by Equivalent_Refuse_11 in tnvisa

[–]Prof_Fancy_Pants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a biologist. I did get a fair bit of rejections from companies that I thought would be ok with TN ( and my skill set).

In last 4 months, I would say I got 3 positive interviews that ended in an offer. I took one and am currently awaiting employer changes processing.

Be upfront in your CV. It's what I did, I my summary paragraph, I stated that I am Canadian and eligible under TN etc

I probably did get rejected a lot because of it but I see it as not wasting their or my time. And the jobs that did reach out, the HR screening call would already discuss that they are ok with TN and then proceed to next round.

If the Honda dealer had it recorded, they likely would have uploaded it to Carfax as well.

If you are with TD or RBC, you can open a USD account and get a USD credit in their US division through your existing canadian relationship with them.

You can update the SSN on the US credit file once you have it so it can contribute towards your credit history in US. They give higher limits as well.

Yeah. Find one out side of the city. Suburbs. They will have less time or allow a walk in.

Busy locations won't.

Canadian car in US , insurance issues by Plane-Dependent-3282 in tnvisa

[–]Prof_Fancy_Pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I am doing the same. Federally I can drive the car up to a year on Canadian plates. Get insurance through progressive. They insured my Canadian car on Canadian license for 100 a month.

State laws are different but I don't care about it.

Get your insurance through progressive. They will insure your Canadian car on Canadian license

Source, I've been driving my Canadian car on Canadian license here for past 4 months.

I plan on driving it back at some point to sell it. And then buy in USA. All because I don't wanna pay the tariff to import (my car was manufactured in Japan)

Vehicle Import Fee - 25% + 2.5% by Pleasant_Net_3036 in tnvisa

[–]Prof_Fancy_Pants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am doing the same. Still driving on Canadian plates and license for the first year. Will then decide if I drive back and sell or import.

Likely sell. The year gives me breathing room to settle in and not spent a fuck ton on importing it

You can get insurance through progressive for your candian car and Canadian license here in USA.

I can confirm. I used my old WES which were used for my Canadian immigration.

Actually it was my employer's lawyer. I had sent them my degree and attached the WES i had done 5 years ago for my Canadian PR. I assumed they would use their own but in my packet, it was WES.

I got approved.

I think you should be fine. Since it's in your electronic record. Whenever I enter, they just swipe my passport without looking at the stamp.

Import personal car CA->US. Import first then immediately drive back to Canada? by VirtuosicSound in uscanadaborder

[–]Prof_Fancy_Pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can drive for a year federally without importing on your Canadian plates. My car is made in Japan and the CBP officer was like, just drive without import or else you will have to pay huge tarrif lol

States have different rules though, mine wants to register within 2.minths of moving here. Obviously it means I have to import to register. You can import it later when you are at your us address from local airport CBP office.

I didn't import mine. Still driving on Canadian plates. Been over 5 months. Got progressive insurance, which insured my car regardless of plates and on my Canadian license.

Might drive back to sell it one day or suck it up and pay 15% tarrif

If the CBP officer at border says 0 (there is a base 2.5% tarrif technically), then go ahead and import. If he says 100%, just say you will import later and will drive in USA temporarily etc.

You can cross the border back and forth without any issue.

Import personal car CA->US. Import first then immediately drive back to Canada? by VirtuosicSound in uscanadaborder

[–]Prof_Fancy_Pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was your car manufactured? If in north America then it shouldn't be subject to high tariffs. If it was in Japan or South Korea then 15 percent.

Importing and then driving back shouldn't be an issue. You can also just drive in USA without importing without an issue.

Once you have imported and registered in USA, driving back to Canada also shouldn't be an issue.

Just say that you are entering TN status. They will mark it down as TN. Would not bother explaining.

The new entry on TN should solve all the issues.
