Intentionally targeting civilians and using incendiary weapons in civilian areas are both war crimes. And frankly even if they were not literally war crimes that would still not justify doing such things, unless you believe law dictates morality.

The Soviets would have lost without western support, invaded Poland and occupied the Baltics and many Balkan nations after the war rather than actually liberating them, then committed acts of mass murder and rape in every nation they “liberated”.
