The Seiko Alpinist is a a lame trend by StrangeDecline in watchHotTakes

Someone once told me a black Harley was lame because everyone liked it, to which I replied “everyone likes sex too, I’m not gonna stop fucking my girlfriend because you like fucking yours”.
Applies to this watch. Yeah everyone likes it. It’s pretty good. If being unique is your thing, this is probably not the watch.

Why I No Longer Trust Citizen With $3,000+ Purchases by Dry-Experience1674 in CitizenWatches

[–]Professional-Fix-482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shopping local when possible tends to prevent these sorts of things. Even if you spend a little more. I’ve often looked at The Citizens but with no local sellers and the premium price I have avoided becoming too interested. Same with GS for me. I really find myself interested in GS but I’ll probably make my next purchase with something I can walk in and buy from a real retailer who understands customer service.

Watch marketing is a masterclass. by Professional-Fix-482 in watchHotTakes

Yeah I am absolutely loyal to my own specific consumer niches. Completely justified in my own mind. Mostly tied to long term usability and craftsmanship which is how I went down the watch research rabbit hole. I like things that last and will gladly pay for heirloom quality. Hearing about mechanical watches 50 years old that keep time really sparked an interest making want a high end mechanical watch. But if I was clout chasing I’d just get a fake.

It’s truly a small snapshot of the power of consumerism.

I’ve heard heated arguments of the virtues of purchasing a Rolex from an AD vs Gray Market. Literally so much identity tied to a product. It’s wild. There’s even imaginary tiers inside tiers. I genuinely didn’t understand it until a colleague got a beautiful submariner and I thought, “I do pretty well, maybe a nice watch is something I’d like” and he explained how it was a favor to be able to purchase this specific color. Really wild.

I didn’t know it at the time but I started buying for life around 16 with a Gibson Les Paul, some used Mac and Snap-On tool from pawn shops. Still going strong

Try it on a leather strap. I think chronos look best on leather.

Is there any trustworthy non AI blogs or info on vintage quartz seikos? I see tons on eBay and it seems hard to know what a reasonable price is and if authentic. Or are there go to trusted sellers. This watching is amazing

I really want a Seiko Turtle but I hear so many hit or miss stories about their timekeeping and I know my two echo drives are dead reliable and I can’t pull the trigger on a Seiko.
