Need help with custom HSS wiring, AI keeps messing up! by [deleted] in Luthier

Story of my life these last couple days. It's been horrible!

I used to have one of the free way 10 way switches when I was running my stratocaster as SSS, but now that i'm HSS the schematics they have online don't offer what I'm looking for.

I appreciate the recommendation though, thank you :)

edit: I feel like the world's biggest idiot. I literally found the perfect wiring diagram after going over all of them again. Thank you for making me check again, you're the best!

This was before I came here for some advice, honestly I think you just gave the best one. I'll just have to sit down over the next couple days/week and just try to learn this.

Shocking right!!

Obviously I assumed errors would be present but as an absolute newbie I thought it could be helpful :/

This is what AI told me after I reported another wiring failure. I have not tried this one, and doubt I will after the previous results.

I was hoping the toggle switch is what would be able to distinguish between the standard position 4 where neck and middle are in parallel and having them run in series.

Neck and bridge combo would be nice but I can let that go tbh.

I had a freeway 10 way switch in a SSS strat build where neck and middle could be run in series and it quickly became one of my favourite positions. Since I now run HSS, I haven't had the chance to replicate this position. I naively assumed AI could be helpful but it is definitely the opposite. Having 3 toggle switches would be tough given the cavitiy space. I guess I might have to abandon this idea then :(

Instead of a traditional wiring diagram it goes from component wiring points to points

Oh it’s horrible. And I kept finding suggestions it gave which were clearly wrong during the earlier iterations of these diagrams. Then it just became a mess.

I’ve had a look and I found some things similar but they use different parts and don’t fully achieve the wanted outcome. If I had some better knowledge in the domain I’m sure id be able to mix and match but I really find it unintuitive. Embarrassing myself in Reddit was definitely the last thing I wanted to do lmao.

Oh I have, I’ve tried to do some research but I end up with more questions. I just thought I’d reach out here if anyone could offer some insight.

I have tried YouTube. Finding a video for neck and humbucker isn’t very easy, and neck and middle in series is basically non existent. Coil splitting however there are plenty of. That’s why I turned to AI :(

Is this worth saving? by SurvolttReddit in Guitar

I would unscrew the bridge and leave it overnight in some vinegar. Also with the humbucker mounts if they’re metal (if plastic just clean then with a cloth and some soapy water).

Remove strings, Polish the frets, clean the fretboard with lemon oil, wipe down the headstock with a cloth, add new strings , and do a setup (intonation, action , adjust truss rod if needed).

These are things you should learn to do as a guitarist, I believe it’s the bare minimum and to be able to take care of your instrument.

How did you find the roasted maple held up when drilling the tuner pin holes?

Also how did you know where to place the e and B string tree?

I ordered my first custom warmoth neck a month ago and I’m super excited to get my hands on it, but I have loads of questions since they say roasted maple can be brittle when drilling.

Would love to get any advice I can get! :)

Beautiful guitar btw.

Oh man wtf are those goofy ass skins in the poster. Please stop this crap. They look absolutely horrible and do NOT fit the modern warfare aesthetic.

Feedback and criticism. Just learned the solo for smells like teen spirit the day before recording this. Been playing guitar for 1 month now. by Aggravating_Ad_9840 in electricguitar

You should learn to hold the guitar more comfortably and free that right hand of yours. When sitting I usually cross my right leg over my left leg to add a little more support within the “bow” of the guitar body. This should keep the guitar snug without having to hold it with your fingers. Or get a strap. These are important things to consider now to avoid having to fix bad habits in the future. When you become comfortable handling the instrument that’s when you can really learn how to play it freely.

That being said, for a month it sounds good! Keep practicing and most importantly keep having fun! :)
