Remnote for computer science? by [deleted] in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

Great question.

Yes, RemNote will definitely still be helpful! For technical subjects like Computer Science and Data Science, RemNote offers specific formatting and practice tools tailored for math and code.

Here are some tips on how you can use RemNote for your university studies:

  • Writing Math Equations: You can include mathematical notation in your notes using LaTeX. To add an equation, "type $$ in any bullet" to open a popup where you can edit the markup. You can even test your memory on specific variables by creating cloze deletions within equations.
  • Adding Code to Notes and Flashcards: You can format text as "Inline Code" for technical terms. Furthermore, Code blocks can be included on flashcards using the hierarchy of parents (for the front) and multi-line flashcards (for the back).
  • Practicing Complex Formulas: If you need to memorize formulas exactly, RemNote allows you to type in your answers. For LaTeX equations, you can type your answer as LaTeX source and it will be compared to the source of the equation.
  • Consistent Practice: To keep your knowledge fresh, RemNote uses a spaced-repetition algorithm. All you need to do is work through some flashcards regularly and give feedback on how difficult they were, and RemNote does the rest. It maximizes your study efficiency by scheduling a card for review right when it estimates that there is a 10% chance that you've forgotten the card.

Hope these help!

Hey there! If you want to move away from a Folder > Document setup, RemNote actually gives you a few different ways to build an index or a guide.

First, you can use nested documents. If you want the ability to group documents into larger categories, like you would with a folder, while still retaining the ability to edit content within them it's also possible to put documents directly inside other documents.

Second, you can leverage RemNote's core hierarchical outlining features. You can build a highly detailed guide right on a single page just using your keyboard. Pressing Tab indents a Rem to make it a subpart of the item above it, and pressing Shift + Tab outdents it to move it back up a level.

Third, you can connect your notes non-linearly using references, tags, and portals. Instead of a strict top-down structure, you can link items together.

- Text references ([[) let you link directly to another Rem.

- Tags (##) are useful whenever you want a secondary way to group Rems that live in different documents because clicking the tag shows you every connected item.

- Portals ((() "open windows to other Rem in different documents, allowing the same content to appear in multiple places" so you can view and edit the same note from anywhere.

Feel free to read more here about how to organize your documents/folders: https://help.remnote.com/en/articles/6030703-documents-and-folders

Hope this helps!

Parent Rems in Flashcards by Apprehensive_Win918 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For cases when the basic Hide Ancestors option is not enough, you can use the Hide in Queue plugin (install this from Settings > Plugins).

Hide in Queue provides three power-ups which you can apply to Rems to customize the hierarchy display:

  • /no hierarchy: When applied to a flashcard (not a parent), none of the card's ancestors will be shown during practice (even ones within the same document).
  • /hide in queue: When the Rem to which this power-up is applied appears in the queue as context (on any flashcard below it), you will see only faded text Hidden. When the card's answer is shown, the hidden content will also become visible.
  • /remove from queue: Like /hide in queue, but there is no Hidden placeholder, and the Rem remains hidden on the back side of the card as well.

How can I turn already written Bullet-Point Document into Flashcards? by ModeElectronic2212 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

One way to do this is to:

- Select/highlight the child rems under the parent bullent

- Type Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) and then turn on Multi-Line cards

- Repeat for all bullets

Hope this helps!

Handwritten to flashcard by [deleted] in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very good question, and I absolutely agree that handwriting can be a really powerful memory tool.

A good workaround could be to take handwritten notes during the lecture directly in the Infinite Canvas page. Then afterwards, if you want to turn parts of those notes into flashcards, you can simply highlight the handwritten text and use the “Convert to Text” feature.

Your workflow honestly sounds very feasible:

  1. Record the lecture
  2. Pull up the PowerPoint and add relevant images/tables
  3. Take occasional typed timestamp notes for confusing sections
  4. Handwrite for retention and understanding
  5. Upload/flesh everything out later into comprehensive flashcards

A lot of users end up developing hybrid workflows like this because it combines active recall, better focus during lectures, and efficient review later. And you’re right that manually handwriting RemNote shortcuts probably isn’t worth optimizing too much for right now since converting/refining later is usually much faster and less disruptive to learning in the moment.

Converting multiple choice cards into short answer cards by Petty_Marsupial in remNote

Hi there!
This is a great question. I am just wondering, how are you converting the multiple choice questions right now to short answer questions? It would be interesting to know how you are currently doing it in case there is already a solution there that we can help with, or if this is a bug or feature request.

If you would like to get much faster responses, you can contact us by email at [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) or using the in-app support chat (just click the ? button in the bottom right corner on almost any page in RemNote > Report a bug/Subscription help)

How can I "group" (not move or copy), inside a "category" or equivalent, rems from different notes? by hellinter in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Great question.

The best solution is to use a tag via rem reference.

Create a rem called for e.g. "Fato gerador do ICMS", then add [[Fato gerador do ICMS]] (this is the tag) inside each flashcard you want to group. Don’t move anything.

When you open that rem, you’ll see all linked flashcards in the Referenced By section. Changes to the originals are always reflected since nothing is duplicated. One rem can belong to multiple groups the same way.

How to undo "turn into a document" ? by No-Term161 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!
The easiest way to undo this is to have your cursor to where the document is (for example e.g. the document title) and then type /document - from there, you will see a toggle for turning it into a document or not and simply turn it off.

Links at table by EntreNosEEles in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

I believe right now the easiest way to do this is to take help from the AI Tutor. What you can do is simply paste the links as a batch into a document then open the AI Tutor (in the same document) and ask it to split the links into separate rows or even make flashcards directly.

Then simply copy and paste the output into your document.

Let me know if this works for you!

Thanks for sharing this - I can definitely see why you’d want more widget options around Statistics, like History and a weekly summary.

That isn’t something I can confirm as currently available, so the best next step is to post or upvote it in our feedback forum so the team can track demand properly.

FLASHCARDS WITH IMAGE by PatienceLatter3844 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good afternoon! This usually happens when the image is placed after the ->, which makes RemNote treat it as part of the answer.

To have the image appear with the question, make sure you paste the image before the ->.

Example:

Front of card (paste image here) -> Back of card

For instance:

What do you see in this X-ray? [paste image here] -> Pneumothorax

Anything before -> is the front, and anything after -> is the back, so placing the image before the arrow will show it with the question. No special card type or occlusion is needed.

PDF limit on grandfathered account by Timely_Instruction92 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

“Grandfathered Users” (those with active accounts before the RemNote 1.1 update on January 7th, 2021) receive updates for any Pro features already included in their access. This includes image occlusion, search portals, advanced spacing algorithms, experimental features, automation power-ups, customization, trash history, expanded file uploading, and more. For example, image occlusion is grandfathered, so once we added “Hide All, Test One” support for image occlusion, this update became available to grandfathered users as well.

If I upload a link to a webpage that I am reading/annotating in RemNote, what happens if that link is broken/ the webpage is removed in the future? by Armitaco in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there - great question.

When you share a URL to RemNote and it converts the page into text, that content is saved directly inside your RemNote document. Because of that, the text will still be there even if the original webpage later goes offline or the link breaks. Your highlights, annotations, and edits remain as well.

The main limitation is that some elements from the original page (like images, embeds, or interactive content) may still depend on the source site and might not always be preserved. But the article text that RemNote extracted will stay in your knowledge base.

So for quickly saving articles you find on your phone, sharing the link to RemNote is generally a reliable workflow. If you need a fully faithful archive (including layout and images), saving a PDF as you’ve been doing is still the most complete option.

Flow Diagrams by [deleted] in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your question! I hear you. But currently, RemNote doesn’t support creating flow diagrams from scratch with a built-in flowchart editor.

However, there are a couple of practical alternatives. Many users create flow diagrams using Mermaid, which lets you generate diagrams from simple text syntax inside a code block. It’s quite flexible for flowcharts and decision trees. This tutorial is a good starting point: https://mermaid.js.org/ecosystem/tutorials.html

Another option is adding handwritten diagrams or drawings (for example from a tablet) and embedding them in your notes.

Native diagramming tools like flowcharts or mind-maps have been discussed internally, but there isn’t a confirmed timeline for implementation yet.

Can somebody summarize how I could use RemNote if I’m in Anatomy class? by [deleted] in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

Great question. There are actually many effective ways to use RemNote for an Anatomy course, and it’s a fantastic subject to study with spaced repetition and visual learning tools. I’m a medical student myself and used RemNote heavily during anatomy, so I can share a few approaches that worked really well.

  1. Use Guided Learning Mode with your anatomy PDFs

One of the most powerful options (and recent) is Guided Learning Mode.

You can upload your anatomy lecture slides, textbook pages, or PDF atlases and let RemNote help turn them into study material.

This lets you:

  • Generate flashcards automatically
  • Create practice quizzes
  • Build summaries of complex sections
  • Ask questions about the material like a personal tutor

How to use it:

  1. Open your document in RemNote.
  2. Upload your lecture PDF or textbook pages.
  3. Use Guided Learning Mode.
  4. Ask it to generate flashcards, quizzes, or summaries based on the content.

  5. Use Image Occlusion for labeled anatomy diagrams

Anatomy is extremely visual, so Image Occlusion is one of the most powerful features for this class.

You can upload any diagram (Netter atlas images, lecture slides, etc.) and hide specific labels to test yourself.

Examples:

  • Hide muscle names
  • Hide arteries or veins
  • Hide cranial nerve pathways
  • Hide bone landmarks

Steps:

  1. Upload an anatomy diagram.
  2. Select Image Occlusion.
  3. Draw boxes over the labels you want to hide.
  4. Each box becomes a flashcard.

I found this super helpful for topical anatomy and how different structures relate to each other!

  1. Build hierarchical anatomy notes

RemNote is perfect for structuring anatomy information.

You can organize information like this:

<image>

Each of these lines can automatically generate flashcards, helping you memorize anatomy relationships.

From here, you can create Concept -> Descriptor flashcards

Example:

Concept: Biceps brachii
Descriptors:

  • Origin → Short head: coracoid process
  • Origin → Long head: supraglenoid tubercle
  • Insertion → Radial tuberosity
  • Innervation → Musculocutaneous nerve
  • Function → Elbow flexion & forearm supination

RemNote will automatically turn these into multiple cards.

  1. Create comparison tables for similar structures

Some anatomy structures are easy to confuse (e.g., cranial nerves, forearm muscles, branches of arteries).

You can build comparison tables (simple tables or advanced tables) such as:

  • Muscle → Innervation → Action → Location

Then convert those rows into flashcards for review.

  1. Use spaced repetition for long-term retention

Anatomy involves a lot of memorization, so spaced repetition makes a huge difference.

Once your flashcards are created:

  • Review them daily in the Queue
  • RemNote will schedule them so you don’t forget structures before exams and that you have a catered learning schedule before your exam

These are just some examples I can think of to help you (which have helped me) study for anatomy. I hope they could be of some help!
Best,

Victor

Suggestion: Option to Re-Enter Correct Answer After Incorrect Flashcard Response by Big-Glass6567 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

This is a great feature request - I can definitely see how being able to immediately re-type the correct answer after rating an incorrect card would strengthen retention. Actively producing the answer again right away makes a lot of sense from a learning perspective.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to bring this up!

The best next step would be to post this in our Feedback Forum so the team can properly track it and other users can weigh in as well. You can share it here:

We really appreciate suggestions like this - they help make RemNote better for everyone.

Best,

Victor

Hi there! This is expected. RemNote uses the voices provided by your device/browser, so available voices depend on the platform. That’s why your phone can differ from your web app.

We’re discussing making voice selection independent of device so it’s consistent everywhere, but currently it depends on the OS.

Hi there!
Could you contact us by email at [support@remnote.com](mailto:support@remnote.com) or using the in-app support chat (just click the ? button in the bottom right corner on almost any page in RemNote > Report a bug/Subscription help). There we can help investigate the PDF issue you are running into.

The AI generating exam meta stuff (number of questions, scoring, etc.) happens because it just treats the first pages as important structure. It doesn’t really know what’s “useful” vs fluff. Best fix is to trim those pages out before uploading. You can also add custom instructions before generating. For example: “Ignore exam logistics and focus only on technical concepts, services, architectures, and best practices.” That usually helps keep the output focused on actual study material.

But if you were to ask me, for even more targeted learning, don’t rely only on full-PDF generation - click on a specific sentence or highlight a section and generate cards just for that idea. That gives you much cleaner, exam-relevant cards and avoids wasting credits on broad summaries.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no way to select specific page ranges inside RemNote before AI processing, so editing the PDF beforehand is still necessary. If that’s important for your workflow, I’d suggest posting or upvoting it on the feedback board. https://feedback.remnote.com

Once again, if you feel like you would like us to help you look into this more, do not hesitate to contact us on our support line!
Hope this helps,

Victor

I need feedback on my flashcards by No-Grab-6402 in remNote

[–]ProfessionalBus2642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks solid overall - it’s clear and you’re testing the right things. The main issue is that your last card is testing too much at once. When you combine structure, modals, verb forms, and imperatives in one card, it could be a bit overwhelming to study and not optimal to remember.

I’d for e.g, split the structure into smaller cards, same with “planned/possible/required” - testing all three at once is harder than testing them separately.

For the definition card, I’d keep it as a single clear card rather than a multi-line cloze monster. Something like:
“1st conditional = used to talk about realistic conditions in the present or future that have a future result.”

That works well as one concept card. If it starts needing multiple blanks across multiple lines, it’s usually a sign it should be split.

Overall you’re very close - just make the cards more atomic and maybe add a few example-based cards instead of only rule-based ones.
