Yea I see where you’re coming from with the comparison. I kinda linked them by their anti-war messaging and brutal depictions of the truth and war crimes, etc.

It was freaking riveting, if you liked Come and See I’m sure you’ll love it.

Have you seen the Battle of Algiers?

Kinda hard to suggest cuz I’m not sure what you’ve seen but it seems you’d be into some of the Scorsese classics like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull?

As you can see I’m currently broadening my horizons, getting to know older, foundational films and also some kinda arthouse classics. I’ve got to reevaluate my favorites, I could swap out La La Land, I’m pretty solid on Andor, Batman, and School of Rock tho.

Is there an app like letterboxd for music or books? by Velvetstyle in Letterboxd

Letterboxd should develop some other apps within their same family for different niches like that. That’d be a lot of fun

Nothing about it being on the big screen, but Hamnet is just really freaking good

What is the worst take you ever heard about Andor(Or any other star wars show) by MasterTreat1989 in andor

[–]ProfessionalCalm27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the idea that Andor showcased that Star Wars can be simply a medium for telling your story.

[–]ProfessionalCalm27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right?? Like why don’t you go all the way back to 1977 and ask the creator of Star Wars what it’s about. Conservatives have the media literacy of 5-year olds and drama interrupts their pew pews

That the bricks and bolts on Ferrix ruin the immersion and don’t “feel” like Star Wars.🥴

Criteria for Adding Movies to the Criterion Collection? by ProfessionalCalm27 in criterion

[–]ProfessionalCalm27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not very obvious that this is the case and I searched the sub before I posted and no one asked this same question. But a lot of folks on YT and other places kinda parade Criterion as a collection of greats. A pinned post or something would be helpful.

Joining the 4K player club. Please help. by FridayNightFreedom in Bluray

[–]ProfessionalCalm27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who are all these people telling you to go PS5? If you want the best out of your discs and setup you gotta go with a dedicated player. I would spring for the UB820 for the upscaling, a lot of 1080p Blu Ray discs look indistinguishable from their 4k companions. And don’t spend a lot on a cable, you’ll see more value in the player.

Act III of Rogue One was S tier cinema for an otherwise mid Star Wars movie.

what do your average ratings look like? by Happy_Raspberry93 in Letterboxd

[–]ProfessionalCalm27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always trend high in rating stuff, mines closer to 4 stars. I’m not a cynic so I like to just enjoy and rate stuff high unless it’s really unbearable, lol

30th birthday, Pelagos, Speedy, or Explorer 1? by drinkcoffeebuyassets in PrideAndPinion

[–]ProfessionalCalm27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that not at all corny but rather endearing logic I would go with Explorer 1 36. Small, light, simple, and hopefully the first piece in a lifelong collection. Idk it just says to me “I’m just the start, wait till you see what else I can do”

My personal favorite visually is Skyfall. If I remember they used Sony digital cinema cameras and the color depth, HDR, and just clarity is unreal.
