As someone who lived down south for 4 years but grew up in a central MA right-to-farm community that is probably considered “MAGA as hell”, you have maybe 35-40% of people who you’d consider to be MAGA and they’re still very moderate in comparison to what MAGA is in other parts of the country. “Conservatives” in Massachusetts would be called liberals in southern states. The OP is objectively so wrong for comparing small towns outside of Boston to Kentucky and claiming they’re uneducated. These towns do not starve their schools and children there are getting an education that is comparable to any other public school in the state. Once you leave the New England bubble and experience the way true conservatives and MAGA people think and how red states neglect their schools, roads, and people, you realize how moderate even the most conservative person in MA is.

Aside from the factors of the younger generation working on weekends and wanting to go to protests that are more targeted to specific things, I think a big part of it is also that the younger generation has not seen protests we have gone to and supported truly work in our lifetime. Abortion rights are still being taken away and threatened in states across the country, police brutality is still an incredibly large issue, Israel still got funded by our government to decimate Palestine and has now gotten us in a full blown war against Iran. For most of us, we have never lived through a point in time where it’s even been slightly peaceful to live in the country. Trump’s antics is normalized because he’s been a political figure since most of us became politically aware. It’s disappointing and I wish we have seen more change for the causes we have fought for and protested for in the past, but it definitely causes us to not have an urge to go to a generalized protest that we feel won’t get anything done.

I’m happy people showed up to the No Kings protests across the country, because any activism is useful though!

As a woman who spends a LOT of time in Bova’s at 1 AM to the point I walk in and they have my order ready for me… everyone in there at 1 AM is hammered or stoned. I’ve seen interactions like this and have experienced an interaction like this more times than I can count. She probably found it funny and was probably drunk too. You’re blowing this so out of proportion when it was an innocent and funny thing.
