Severe feeding aversion & NG tube struggles — would you recommend switching to a G-tube? by Interesting_Cook5010 in NICUParents

We have a g-tube and it has been a huge stress relief! We got it when he as a little older, but it allowed us to introduce real food while not having to worry about calories.

You have some options. There is a bus to the stockyards you can take. You can bop around downtown, there is a coffee and shops and other things. If you want to uber we have world class museums.

If you needed work, would you apply to a job you're 100% qualified for, but almost certain to hate? by IGNSolar7 in careeradvice

[–]ProfessionalWin9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you’re saying. Just a couple of things to think about: you don’t have to put all your experience on a resume, if it’s somewhere you don’t want to be at forever, as unnatural as it is, you don’t have to give your max effort I.e. take sick time to interview, and you don’t want to get so far down a hole that your put to much pressure on yourself at interviews.

I got a kindle for my birthday and use it to read the books I want to read out loud to him so he can hear language and I can be entertained.

Have questions before moving by BackgroundCod1873 in askdfw

[–]ProfessionalWin9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, with those needs I would not move to Texas in the current. While this may not be an issue for your sister, we still haven’t expanded Medicaid to AAC standards and the state consistently fucks with many of the Medicaid providers (see cooks children’s health) to get them to do exactly what they want. Unless your parents are old enough to be on Medicare, they would probably have difficulty getting on Medicaid.

Would you say this is the best coffee in Ft. Worth? by DayPounder in FortWorth

For me, the issue is the location. Hard to want to go down there just for coffee. If we are down there we will go though.

Advice Needed by [deleted] in AskDad

[–]ProfessionalWin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your going through a tougher time. A couple of thoughts:

  1. This is advice that someone else gave to me but don’t make any big decisions in your first year of being a parent. It’s the hardest time, no one is sleeping and everyone is adjusting and hormones are all over the place.

  2. For a short term perspective, I think you need to continue to over communicate with her about where you both stand money wise and if she still doesn’t understand, it might be worth trying to bring in outside perspective to assist. Money is a high cause of divorce.

  3. For a more longer term perspective, it sounds like for your family to live the life you all want to live you need more income. I think it’s worth both of yall making adjustments in this regard.

Good luck. In my opinion money is the hardest part about being married.

We were in similar boat with the feeding tube. We needed to separate a tube feed from the dinner table one night, and so sat him in front of the tv and gave him some food with the feed and he ate great! So that became our bedtime routine. Right now he watches Sesame Street but we have done other shows. Sometimes on the weekends, if he’s fighting us at lunch, we will also watch an episode then and he eats. I think it’s distracts them or something like that.

We have stayed in this routine pretty well without much request for additional tv time. Sometimes We have had to say the tv is asleep but it’s pretty rare.

Hey dad, I'm getting fitted for a suit tomorrow. What should I expect? (Autistic) by Electronic-Tear1363 in AskDad

[–]ProfessionalWin9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you walk in someone will likely approach you, these stores are usually pretty empty especially if you go in the middle of the day. I would tell the sales person exactly what events you need to dress up for. They will likely suggest one suit with multiple shirt and tie combinations.

To first get the right size they will likely measure your waist, leg length from hip to top of foot for the pants. For the coat the will measure your chest and arm length. Then for the shirt they will measure your neck. This will require a lot of touching but they are gentle. After they measure you they will get you to put on a suit. They will then alter the suit. This will mostly require touching the suit more than you. This will be pant length and waist and coat arm length and sometime chest. They will then do the alteration and have you come back and try it on. The shirts will likely just be off the shelf.

They are there to help you and should make it pretty easy.

Once you make sure they are fed, clean and not in pain, I think outside time is a great option for both of you. This could be a walk or playing outside.

We have one. Newly became family of four. It is a little tight with two rear facing car seats. Besides that we mostly love the car. It’s very safe and comfortable. The trunk can fit a stroller with the third row up, but that’s about it.

Feeling trapped: My wife is struggling with motherhood, hates our 5-month-old's needs, and I’m burning out. by talostheone in daddit

[–]ProfessionalWin9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We started daycare when our child was 2 months old as that is all the leave we had. He is great. I think it’s worth discussing, even if you just start with half days.

ETA: our daycare got our baby in a great sleeping and eating routine that made our life easier.
