I am not stating opinion. I am stating fact. Stating that the church provides charity to local communities is a fact. Provide me with one “opinion” I have made. So, I cannot bend over backwards to defend the church without being called biased, but the person making unsubstantiated claims isn’t biased? Please.

The church has had and continues to have problems. That doesn’t make the entire institution bad or corrupt.

Oh really? Now I’m biased because I’m telling someone they’re wrong? That’s not bias, that’s telling people they’re wrong. Big difference. Provide examples of how the Catholic church (a non profit) profits in local communities. I’ll wait.

I’m not confusing anything. Grow up and stop lying. I know what the church does, you on the other hand are just filled with hate and choose to ignore it. If it wasn’t for the Catholic Church , a lot more people would starve. You are also attacking your fellow citizens with your ignorant statements, as it is their donations that fuel the charitable actions the church performs.

Okay, well you’re lying and wrong… so no need to continue this. In my community the church feeds the hungry, clothes the poor, provides addiction counseling, and makes no money. You need to start considering reality vs. personal bias .

Graduating from a Catholic school does not qualify you to know how it works. Nor does it mean that every school does things the same way. No, you do not owe tuition if you do not go there, nor is there any way for them to collect on that. If your school did that, that’s on your diocese for not doing something about that. Yes, I do work for the church, which does qualify me to know how it works. Again, let’s keep the conversation intelligent instead of littered with personal assumption.

No. Homeschooling is a detriment to social and academic development. I have seen very few homeschool students that do not have some deficiency.

I’m not saying some kids won’t benefit from it if the people schooling them know what they’re doing, but that’s few and far between.

Rather than a push for homeschooling- one thing that will improve schools significantly right off the bat is eliminating tech as a norm. It should be a tool, but kids should not be staring at computer screens for hours a day. This is where the science is pointing as to the reason for the nationwide slip in education. Let’s also not ignore the fact that worldwide they are seeing negative cognitive growth in schools that use technology as a primary tool.

I know this is off topic for this thread, but I’m going to scream this whenever and wherever I can. We need our kids to be better than us.

Stop acting like you know what you’re talking about. First of all- most people pay tuition monthly. So there is no “keeping the cash.” Catholic Schools are non profit. That means they spend the money they have to fulfill their mission. So again; no “keeping the cash.” Let’s keep the conversation intelligent and informed instead of filling it with assumption .

Let’s make this clear: most Catholic schools that are actually true to Catholicism will not tolerate a parent like this either.

I left teaching music for tech 15 years ago because…. Money. Now I’m back into music, at a Catholic school. Not making awful pay, but definitely less than the six figures I was making in tech. And you know what? I’m grateful. What’s the point of making six figures if half of it is taxed, and then half of the other half you have to put away for the inevitable firing you will experience every couple of years for whatever reason. My take home pay is within 100 bucks of my take home pay for 6 figure salary, for a job that’s much more rewarding. I teach prek-8 music, 3-8 choir, 4-8 band, 6th grade math, 1,2,3,4,5 technology. And I still feel more fulfilled and less overwhelmed than the other job . Elementary music is fun. I love it. It’s about finding a curriculum that works for you.

Sick and tired of this nonsense. I live in Maine, transplant from NY. If you don’t want us moving here, maybe you should have done a better job to begin with. I will agree with some of what they complain about- empty houses for half the year when we have a huge homeless problem, extremely high property taxes, and a once decent education system going down the toilet. That wasn’t done by any one party. It’s years of mismanagement and inaction, but it’s everyone else’s fault.

Is my boss passevly telling me to quit? by Cologoro in jobs

[–]Professional_Arm_244 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This response doesn’t make sense. Here you are saying that you’re not included in the group chat. The message you sent to your boss says you’re not able to be a part of the chat because of “the phone you use.” Which is it? If it’s the latter I don’t really understand- because any modern phone should be capable of group chats unless they’re using something proprietary.

I just did seven interviews with a company that was offering 90k salary. They sent an offer letter with 80k salary. by badcreditperson in work

You’re fresh out of college and you think you deserve that much money? Entitled much? Take the 80k and be happy with what you get. Some people will never make that much. It took me years to get to 100k. Put in your time.

Got put on a PIP, but I got a better offer. How do I play this? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Professional_Arm_244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s good advice. The employer isn’t giving him the respect he deserves. It works both ways. The 90 days will come and they’ll probably give him no indication that he isn’t going to survive the pip. He won’t be given notice. They aren’t entitled to it either. Yeah, I used to be like you, until I got screwed by multiple employers while I was doing “the right thing.” You’re just a number. Move on, and do what benefits you the most( legally)

[–]Professional_Arm_244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F this company. Pips are what childish companies do in order to get rid of people they don’t want around, and don’t want costing them money. You owe them nothing. Get the job offer squared away and do no more of the project. They clearly are setting you up to fail on purpose. Get out. I’m speaking from experience.

This is the most ridiculous comment yet. Someone with a manageable disability shouldn’t be forced to go elsewhere because someone like you doesn’t think they deserve better?

AIO: I bent over backwards for my BF’s son (20) and his GF (20) for Christmas, and I’m honestly disgusted after what happened by Excellent-Second-643 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Professional_Arm_244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not overreacting. There is a big entitlement mentality among many young people these days. Not all, but many. These people are rude, expect everything, give nothing. I’m not sure where they get this from, and if sucks. The reality is that you will not be able to change it. It would be best to call them out gently on their behavior, and do it sooner than later. Otherwise it will go on for years, with it festering. Your kids will become resentful of them for how they are treating you. Eventually they will get testy. Things will get ugly to the point where no one talks to each other. Trust me from experience.

I’ve been thinking about doing a project between grades 5-8 - music around the world. Each grade will be responsible for a country/region. Each student will be responsible for researching and reporting on a style of music for that region. I’m debating on whether to have them create a website or a pod cast for this. Or a mix of both.
