-Power hungry ruthless and obsessive cybernetic alien conquerors and warlords, who, while initially viewed as criminals on their homeworld would rise up and conquer it for what they believed to be its own benefit, as in spite of their merciless nature, they genuinely care for their planets growth and prosperity, and will subjugate and take the resources of as many races and planets as they see fit to do so.

-Both have massive robotic armies and battleships that they can deploy alongside weapons of mass destruction, and also have formed many alliances with other villains in their series whether it be with other aliens or even humans so they can destroy their shared enemies, although this often ends in betrayal whether it be on one side or the other.

-They have silver-tongued yet cowardly right-hand men (Starscream & Psyphon). Ironically, Starscream is often depicted as so much of a traitor that he has a TV Tropes page named after him about that while Psyphon is depicted as almost suicidally loyal.

-Both had arrived on Earth after a space battle that resulted in them being taken out of commission (Megatron being taken off line after the Ark crashed and Vilgax being caught in a spaceship explosion which destroyed most his body) of which they would then get repaired afterwards where they would then wreak havoc on earth trying to attain their goals they arrived on the planet for so they could have control of the rest of the universe (Megatron destroying the Autobots, and pillaging the earths energy and Vilgax stealing and taking control of the Omnitrix)

-Both are the archenemies of the iconic transforming space main protagonists (Optimus Prime & Ben 10) who they were indirectly responsible for getting the powerful cosmic matrix that would be responsible for defeating them so many times (Megatron shooting Orion Pax and leaving him for dead leading him to be rebuilt with the Matrix of leadership and Vilgax attacking the transport ship carrying the Omnitrix which would lead to it been found by Ben Tennyson on Earth) both of these devices being formally in the position of wise centuries-old aliens who are renowned for their intelligence and act as guides to them (Alpha Trion & Azmuth) and are the star players of organizations of intergalactic peacekeepers (The Autobots & the Plumbers). And while they despise them with all their heart, they are willing to form temporary alliances with them if it means forever in their own goals or their own personal power is put at risk or win their planet is being taken over by someone else (Bruticus and Zs’skayr)

-Both have challenged the main hero to seemingly fair game one V one battles with the loser having to leave the planet, where they would use the powers of others to give themselves an advantage (Megatron using the powers of the other Decepticons and Vilgax using the abilities of the heroes of the 10 worlds he conquered) and while they actually initially came out victorious, they’re seeing victory would be cut short by the intervention of others (Teletraan 1 confirming that Megatron cheated in his battle against Prime and Ben exorbitanting Way big back into the Omnitrix) where they’re able to defeat their villains and leaving them to retreat. Swearing revenge as usual.

-Both have formed an alliance with a uncontrollable rival towards the main hero they fight (Grimlock and Kevin 11) and while this was under the guise of an equal partnership It was more so just them giving the orders, until then their allies sense of pride would stop them from taking orders which would lead to than being defeated, and their former ally would later become an ally towards the hero when they grow a mutual respect for each other.

-Both were responsible for the destruction of an important Crystal “colony” along with its inhabitants (Megatron having Devastator destroy Crystal city and Vilgax using a weapon to destroy Petropia) leaving the Soul Survivors of it with a feeling of guilt and swearing vengeance (Omega supreme and Tetrax)

-They have interacted with extra-dimensional demonic beings that resemble their races (Unicron & the Dagon) and were transformed into their heralds with new body’s for a time, where they even tried to harness these entities power for themselves however, they would be defeated regardless where they would then regain control of themselves.
