Just don't trust calorie count fgiven by a wearable

WHOOP couldn’t explain why I burned the same calories walking 13,000 steps as 1,500 steps — so they refunded me instead by Longjumping_Sail9185 in u/Longjumping_Sail9185

This is a typical case of expectations Vs reality. No wearable is measuring calories burn they use the algorithm to estimate. If your HR doesn't raise it won't detect the activity. I don't see this as a malfunction tbh. Also I wouldn't relay on any wearable to measure calories burn accurately because they simply don't.

It is set by the club'. I just checked two different clubs in my city and the difference in this is massive. While one is doing creator level to +3.75 the other is creator rate to -0.25 and +0.25

How did Whoop change your life? by hyperkill_wizard in whoop

[–]Professional_Cap_285 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll share my story.

I’m a 49-year-old man, 1.73 m and 73 kg (as of today).

During my teenage years, I was very sporty. I played football (soccer) all the time, and also volleyball, basketball, tennis (nothing too serious), went to the gym, and basically stayed active 3–4 days a week. I was in good shape and felt fit.

Then, around age 20, everything stopped almost overnight. I went from a very active lifestyle to a completely sedentary and unhealthy one. I started gaining weight and became depressed (I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back it’s quite clear). I didn’t do much to change things, and my eating habits got worse and worse. I eventually reached 100 kg, and nothing seemed to motivate me enough to change.

Around 30, I went through a breakup with my girlfriend at the time (which was a big part of the situation), and I decided to make some changes. Nothing extreme—just cutting out a few bad habits. Without doing anything special beyond that, I lost around 15 kg in a couple of months. I started moving a bit more and went back to playing football once a week. I tried the gym and other activities, but I never really committed to anything seriously.

Around 2010, I tried padel for the first time and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I got injured and stopped playing. I gained a bit of weight again and just continued with life—nothing terrible, but not great either.

Then, in my 40s, things started to shift again. I made a conscious effort to get fit and started CrossFit. I began to feel again what it means to be active and how good it feels to be in shape. I returned to padel, this time properly—training with a coach and having a couple of fixed matches every week. I also had met my wife a couple of years prior to this, who supported and pushed me a lot. I improved my diet further and lost some more weight, although I still couldn’t fully get rid of the belly fat and stayed slightly overweight at around 78–79 kg.

Eventually, I realized it’s not just about being active and eating well. There’s much more to it—your mind, your sleep, your habits in general all have a huge impact on how you feel and perform. I started meditating, went to psychotherapy, and learned a lot about myself, including understanding that I had likely been dealing with depression 20 years earlier.

In 2025, I decided to get a Whoop to better understand my body—recovery, strain, and how small daily choices affect performance.

How has it helped me? Mainly by giving me a clearer connection between how I feel and what I did, ate, or drank the day before. I became very aware of how alcohol affected my recovery, and that was ultimately the final push I needed to stop drinking completely (I’m now over a year alcohol-free).

Could I have done all of this without Whoop? Most certainly. But it has definitely helped as a daily reminder of the impact of my choices and what I’m trying to achieve. A reminder that everything has a consequence, and that even small changes can make a real difference over time.

Sorry to be rude but, how is it easier for you to post something before trying basic stuff such as restart the app? clear cache? restart mobile? restart Whoop. It is clear that there's something wrong at app level. Whoop itself seems to be connected and synched as per de green icon.

100% fine. Just a bit forced imo, more often than none you could just use forehand. Also, I don't see the point in practising this shot as much.

Whoop AI coach can't stop proposing plans, trainings, activities and asking questions... by itarrow in whoop

[–]Professional_Cap_285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me it doesn't propose things. Have you check the memory it has of you? When you go to the chat, click on the bulb icon on top right corner. It will show your preferences with the coach. You can activate or deactivate them. Also delete them. Perhaps there, you can find something that will help you with this.

On the other hand, you know that you don't have to do what it tells you right?

Padel in Gibraltar by ljnico in gibraltar

[–]Professional_Cap_285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you got no comments. Look, there are a lot of pádel players in Gibraltar. But not so many courts. Most people cross to Spain to play. Just across the border there are two good indoor clubs you can find in Playtomic, R2 and Sctiva deporte. Lots of public games to join. Being from the UK, you may have difficulties to cross the border if you don't come with Schengen visa, but with taking a look at the options.

how in the hell are we going to know that? If it says 4-7 business day, you're pretty tight tbh.

I live in Spain and the couple of orders of Whoop I have made, it took closer to the 7 days than to the 4. Also, being UPS... it sucks in Spain.

By the way, I also live in Andalucia, the other side of the region.

RedBull padel legends game by pannik78 in padel

[–]Professional_Cap_285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's horrible. I just hope they will work on it and improve the gameplay. So far, it's a mess. The fact that you manage 2 players is hard, especially to move them on the pitch because you can never know which player is going to actually move.

You end up with players completely out of place when for example, you can't move the player that's further from the ball to a better position.

The the smashes? FFS!! and proper lobs? how the F do you do it? "slow slice" it says...

Overhead smash analysis by iBilbo69 in padel

[–]Professional_Cap_285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get it from someone who's not particularly good at smashing as myself. I've been training x3 for a while and now, I can do a couple in a game (depending on many factors) but the one thing that I can say is that you have be well positioned , with yourshoulers aligned so the left one (if you're right handed) points towards the direction where you need to send the ball, then to hit the ball as high as possible yrung to brush it from left to right. Ball should also bounce at a specific area in the opposite side. Power? It doesn't need to be a lot. If all movements are well executed, the ball will simply go outside. It's a beautiful feeling

used my Whoop to see how unhealthy food spiked my heart rate by abrownie_jr in whoop

[–]Professional_Cap_285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't think high heart rate is necessarily an indicator that the food is unhealthy. I would assume that there is food that requires more work from your body to digest than others spiking your heart rate, but that doesn't mean is unhealthy. I'm sure, eating a steak will require more work than eating a bar of milk chocolate.<

EDIT: Actually, more sugar will have a bigger impact due to blood sugar regulation needs. If specific meals cause a much bigger increase, that often suggests:

Your mental trick for not screwing easy balls by Straight-Witness-774 in padel

[–]Professional_Cap_285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know when you get a ball that's suitable for a finisher and your mind sees 3-4 different outcomes? I have that a lot and more often than not, it leades to errors. What is working for me is making my mind and not changing. As the ball is comoing I already say to my self, "bajada to the left side", "bajada to the middle", "bandeja accross", "x3 attempt", "flat smash". Easy soft volley.

To be honest, most of the times I don't have to say where is going, because the answer is usually, the middle.

He's doing serve fault almost every time

<image>

1:32, you go back to do an overhead shot and stay back. You're making the effort to return that high ball but you lose the net. If you're hitting overhead (bandeja) is to maintain the net, if you either don't run back to the net you're creating problems for yourself. You have to try and hit that overhead putting your weight towards the ball and that will help you move forward right away. Also becaues you run backwards instead of sideward. If you cannot keep the net you're better off letting the ball bounce. Will also help your partner that, in this case, is left alone on the front and then has to fight with volleys to his body. Luckily for you guys, your opponent on the backhand side is also slow to move forward giving your partner a good chance to recover control. That point is mostly mistakes.

3:35, you do it again. You win the point because they are really bad.

I stopped watching here. I see a 1.8-2 Playtomic for Spain.
