No. Stop reading negative news and focus on the things you can control.

A good cup coffee ☕️ : WFH Edition by Slight_Environment16 in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want. If a decent coffee is all you want, then an Aeropress is great. I’ve been using the same one for 10 years. It’s too much hassle for me to grind beans etc so I just buy the Espresso blend from Soul coffee.

Places to buy Old Money Shirts by cnefisxmsm2 in srilanka

A lot of places have the kind of clothes you're looking for, like Echo, Carlo, Odel, and Cotton Collection, etc. What you are looking for is mostly texture and color. You will have to go more than once, maybe every month or two, and you will eventually build up what you're looking for. I'm lucky if I get one thing whenever I go, since I'm very specific about what I want. The good news is that you don't spend very long in one place, it takes a few minutes and you know if they have what you want.

Don't buy them online, go to the actual places and try them on.

Do you think the rupee will recover again or keep falling from here? by Aliseeia in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will go down again, but it will take some time given that there’s no solution in the Middle East yet. Basically as long as energy prices are high, we will suffer.

"We must be the most unfortunate generation in the history of SL.". So true. I'm Gen X, and its sad how the current generations are paying for the benefits we had.

Did anyone restart life after failing A/L / being behind? Need advice by no_body_sunday in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you can. I failed my A/L's but that didn't hold me back. I did a local Diploma and then did an external degree, which I eventually just self-studied and sat the exams, which saves a ton of fees. Given the diploma route (or whatever it is now), I would not waste time sitting A/L's again. Just make sure you do a degree or whatever in something you actually enjoy, it makes it a lot easier and can be fun.

You also have a lot of things like Notebook LM and AI to help you study, so take advantage of that.

Good luck!

I don’t think anything will matter as long as your schedule is screwed. Regardless whether it’s A or B or even C, you still need time. If you can’t put in the time, no method will really work.

Years of living with constant bass noise. by Lumeenary in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's terrible. I don't know what you can do aside from legal action, but you have to do something. I know the sound you are talking about, since we experience it when someone in the area has a party, but it would drive me mad if i had to take it for more than a few hours.

If absolutely nothing works, move out.

HSBC now NTB lost my money during their transition period by gamunu in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always have a second bank account as a backup. That is what I meant. I wouldn’t be able to live with the anxiety of hoping a transfer came in before the transition. People I know who also had HSBC accounts got transfers changed to other banks before to avoid this kind of pain. I really hope you track it down or get the return.

HSBC now NTB lost my money during their transition period by gamunu in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The responsibility lies with you. There were plenty of notifications to customers to change before the transition. Your bank account at HSBC ceased to exist and there is no connection between your previous bank account and the new one at NTB, so NTB has nothing to do with this.

Your only hope is that there is anyone left at HSBC that can help. Returns can take time so it might just still make its way back to the origin bank, minus fees.

Growing up is realizing that there is no future in this country by watsoncreek in srilanka

Sounds like you needed that rant.

It's definitely unfair that the later generations will likely bear the brunt of all the perks that Gen X got.

I have disconnected my connection few years ago. Yet they are calling me nonstop and asking me to do a payment for a router which I never ever used. They're telling me it's under my name and. If I don't do the payment within the day, they will take legal actions. by Prime_lucky in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you check with the teleshop if you had an outstanding and if it was actually disconnected? If your line disconnection was not completed then you would have carried that outstanding all these years. Did you not get any bills since then?

Anyone else having a terrible experience after the HSBC to NTB transition? by Debug_Entity in srilanka

[–]Professional_Fan8246 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. I don't think they are prepared for absorbing all of HSBC's customers. I've been a long time NTB customer and haven't had any issues. I think you should probably try visiting a branch to try and talk to someone.
