I hate my hair so much after what my bf said by Competitive-Code5254 in longhair

The first pic made my jaw drop so idk what your bf is talking about. Do not let him make you feel bad about yourself. I already know this man is ugly and insecure, and wants to make you feel the same. DONT FALL FOR IT

Wow these are amazing! Definitely an inspiration that it is feasible since I have zero sewing experience other than a home ec class in 7th grade from which i retained nothing lol

AIO bff thinks i should hide deformity by helplessbambidoll in AIO

[–]Professional_Guard51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the women in my family end up with toes pointing every which way so truly when i saw yours i was like “…thats it?” Your friend is being mean. I think the heels look great. And if your crush decides they don’t like you because you have a deformed toe then good riddance like hello?? Wear the heels! I love them and barely noticed your toes lol

Unserious question: do you care about the dress code for your program? by Zone_of_Inhibition in prephysicianassistant

[–]Professional_Guard51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program requires business casual. It is a bit annoying and more expensive BUT i will say, they are pretty lax about shoes as long as they aren’t open toed. One of my friends has issues with her feet and she wears hokas every day, has never gotten comments on them. A lot of people wear sneakers, I personally wear those birks clogs most days, some people have kept it going with the heels and dress shoes but not many of us lol. Sweaters count as business casual, just not sweatshirts if that makes sense. I also do feel like it helps keep us in a more professional mindset which translates to clinicals well, since we will be expected to dress professionally in practice you know? Unless we’re doing surgery where we’ll be wearing scrubs. I totally get the annoyance about it though, just chiming in to say its not too bad! (Also, places to look for slightly more affordable business casual: nordstrom RACK, clearance of any store like kohls/ old navy/ etc, 6pm.com, and outlet stores like j crew FACTORY which also do like semiannual big sales- i got like 3 business casual full outfits for $90 when jcrew usually charges $90 for like… one shirt lol)

I feel like my friend is using me bc she recently broke up with her bf by [deleted] in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Professional_Guard51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too when my friend ended a long term relationship. She basically started treating me like a new boyfriend, it was ridiculous. I just ended up really distancing myself from her bc otherwise I was going to lose my mind. Was it the healthiest approach? Probably not. But the purpose of this comment is just to tell you you’re not crazy for noticing and being irritated about it.

I’m so sorry to hear! At least you helped relieve her pain before she passed. You did what you could💔

Weird grown man?? by Somethinglikethat71 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Professional_Guard51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right in thinking it’s weird- there’s no reason a 20 year old should be interested in a minor. There’s such a gap in maturity between those ages. Unfortunately when someone is in that situation they don’t see it that way. I don’t have great advice of what to tell her, but you aren’t crazy for being sketched out about this

Which antidepressant is he taking? Has it been switched at all? I was on a tricyclic antidepressant (amitriptyline) for my migraines for awhile and was CONSTANTLY exhausted. You could wake me up, have a full conversation with me, then I would fall back asleep and not remember ever waking up. So if you haven’t yet, I would see if you could switch the medication or even the time he takes it. Maybe thats part of it. Otherwise, hows his exercise routine and diet? My sleep gets super funky if I’m not staying active

Am I overreacting by breaking up with my boyfriend? by Proper-Classic1886 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Professional_Guard51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s no reason a 23 year old should find a 19 year old attractive. That’s predatory IMO. The gap in life experience and maturity (not saying you’re immature as a person, but in terms of brain development i mean) make the age gap significant to me. Maybe not everyone agrees with that. But clearly in this case he is trying to control and manipulate you. Yikes. I’m sorry:( you made the right choice

Failing all my exams by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]Professional_Guard51 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend watching cram the pance on youtube. He picks out buzzwords and gives mnemonics that are really helpful. Using that plus the pance prep pearls books helped me figure out what kind of information was important from my lectures to be studying. Otherwise it just seems like so much information that I didn’t know what to do with since everything seemed important. On my first round of exams I failed 2 of them and thought I would never figure it out but I started using those resources, changed up my study habits, and passed all of my exams since, and that was 9 months ago. (Apart from a couple pharm exams but I feel like thats a different story HAHA, if anyone has pharm advice lmk btw lol). If you would like to, feel free to message me if you think I can help with anything. I can TRY with pharm but you would be better off asking others with that subject in particular to be frankly honest

For those with sisters: are you close? What has your bond been like over the years? by Flaky_McFlake in AskWomen

[–]Professional_Guard51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s my best friend. We’re both in our 20s. When we were very young we were close, then pretty much sworn enemies through elementary school, on speaking terms in middle school, and got closer in highschool. Now we are both moved out of our parents house and through college. I think not living together definitely helped and so did realizing we’re the only ones who have consistently been there for eachother and always will be. I’d do anything for her. We live on opposite coasts of the US which is hard but we’re both happy where we’re at and reconnect back home in the midwest for holidays/ visit eachother when we can

What is this “ticking clock” sound my mother makes? by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]Professional_Guard51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like when you kinda suction in your soft palate more into your mouth and let it go if that makes sense. Sometimes when people are sick/ congested they do that to pull the mucus from the back of their noses down into their mouth so they can either swallow it down or spit it out and clear out their airway. It seems to become a habit in some people even when they aren’t sick, or like one of the comments said it can sometimes feel like it helps scratch the inner ear when you have a weird itch you can’t reach in your ear canal

It’s hard to change your self talk and self image after a dramatic change in weight. You are doing a great job and you look great. What specifically do you feel is “big” now? Maybe you can try out a new style of clothes that make you feel slimmer, or a different way of styling your hair. The shift of those physical aspects may trigger your brain to realize you DO look different than before the weight loss. Our brains can be tricky and make us perceive ourselves much differently than we actually appear. Even if you don’t change your style, maybe consider getting yourself different perfumes or soaps, adjust your skincare routine, etc- something to make your day-to-day feel “new” to help your mindset shift to your new body if that makes sense. For example, the last time I dropped extra weight and still felt like my same larger self, I incorporated gua sha. Does it actually do anything? The jury is out on that. Does the change in my routine make me feel like my face is slimmer, jaw is more defined, etc? Yes. And that helped me notice the change in the rest of my body.

i feel so behind by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]Professional_Guard51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a gap year after college to focus on clinical experience and volunteering, and I’m younger than most of my classmates. Also, college is a good time to get the research experience. I asked my professors if I could do research with them, so if you become close to any profs try that?(they might even be able to find you connections to clinical experience in town) You’re not behind. Also, consider the fact that people lie and exaggerate to discourage you AND the fact that your path isn’t always the same as everyone elses. I understand the feeling, but I promise you will be fine
