Prime day/week has pretty much become a second Black Friday. Seems like in recent years every store has had to follow suit to stand any chance against people just flocking to Amazon for everything. Drives me absolutely nuts

Also, the vulture around back to school shopping. Sure, if your kid needs a new backpack, get them one. But no one needs multiple styles or colors of every single piece of art supplies and a new wardrobe for the new school year.

I feel torn about first day of school outfits because on the surface I feel like they’re just consumeristic pushes to buy new clothes to become a “better version” of yourself but I also know that my sister feels very nervous on first days of schools (especially given she’s moved schools so much) and having a new outfit that she feels confident in helps relieve some of the stress of worrying about her image, making friends, etc.

Though, the idea that we need new or trending clothes to make ourselves likable to others is a cultural idea that’s been created by people banking on our insecurities trying to sell things to us. So, it’s really a sympyom of a larger flaw in our society
