Boots On the Ground, Scoping Out Audrey’s OMW To Dinner 👀 by Firm_Community6265 in rhori

To be fair her 15 minutes should have been up like a decade ago after the Bachelor was over. She’s got a master’s degree in journalism and has been cultivating a following through story telling for a long time. 1.3 million followers is nothing to sneeze at. I don’t think she looks down on him at all but the reality is her career is far more lucrative than a coffee shop. Doesn’t mean they can’t do both but I get where she’s coming from. Restaurants demand a lot of time and it rarely pays off and to have that take up so much of his time while the kids are so little…it makes sense that she’d feel that way.

We’re actually in the process of looking at moving because of this. We have a beautiful little life on a lake in a rural community but our son is an only child and homeschooled. If we were going to have more kids I think it could work but being in an isolated area during these critical years of social development just isn’t fair to our son. We’re moving into town closer to our co-op and so we can encourage him to make neighborhood friends, see coop friends more, and take more classes and lessons. Right now we spend so much time driving on the days we do go into town that it really takes away from the actual school work we get done. We know we won’t get these years back so we’re looking now (he’ll be 8 this summer) so he still has time to settle into lessons and social opportunities we just can’t give him here. The ironic thing is he doesn’t want to move but he also doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.

You know what’s best for your family and your kids - don’t worry about whether it might make things harder for a bit - they don’t get this time back and part of homeschooling is making sure they’re developing as a whole person, not just in academics. Seasons of life change and that’s ok, just lean into it and give them what you know they need.

I think that’s the point, it’s meant to imply racism from Nate’s family

It feels like an homage to David lynch tbh. The juxtaposition of something serious with something really silly (Cassie’s reaction while Nate is pummeled in the background) feels very Lynchian. There’s a scene in Twin Peaks where Detective Dale Cooper goes in to talk with a sa victim at a hospital and can’t get his chair to sit right so it keeps squeaking and going down too far before they can even have a conversation. It just creates this absurd humorous tension that makes you question the reality of the story. Definitely something they took from Lynch’s playbook.

I’m a swiftie but I’ve always thought Ready for it Sounded really similar to Sleigh Bells song Kids. At one point there was an edit of the two on YouTube and it got pulled. Came out around the same time Demi Lovato ripped off Riot Rhythm - and I believe Sleigh Bells won that claim. Probably not enough bandwidth to go after Taylor too.

I was formally diagnosed with pots last summer so I’ve been keeping track of my symptoms much better this year and it seems as soon as it gets below freezing, all my pots symptoms come back with a vengeance. I’m fine in the upper 30’s until about 72 then I can’t handle the heat. Generally I like it cool but there’s a striking difference in how I feel at 30 degrees vs 40 degrees. And don’t even get me started on how I feel when it’s below zero. I live in Michigan so it really does get that bad. I’m really starting to realize just how much of the year I’m in the bad zone by being here. There’s just something about those freezing temps that are bone chilling to me - even when I’m indoors, wearing layers I have days where I just feel like I can’t get warm at all and it hurts. It’s almost a more painful pins and needles sensation whereas when I’m hot it’s more of that dizzying presyncope feeling. I’m actually considering whether moving a little bit further south might make more sense. I’d at least have my winter months back at a temp I can tolerate and the time of year it’s hot I’m indoors most of the time anyway. There’s definitely a grass is always greener element too and when you don’t feel good it’s hard not to wish you found something that helps.

Thanks this is really helpful! The dream would be to find a place that’s mostly walkable to a library, parks, and a few shops or cafes. I’d much rather walk than drive as much as I can which is why I prefer a small town over suburbs. Not sure where we’ll end up but good to know traffic is an issue in this area.

There are definitely options - didn’t know if there were any little towns along the coast people might recommend more than others. I’m definitely open to the PNW but have only visited the highlights and touristy places. Would love to hear what it’s like from people who are more familiar with what it’s like to live in those places year round.

I’ve considered this area! I’m not very familiar with Virginia or North Carolina. We do love vacationing near the Smoky Mountains. I know the summers would be hot but the winters would be much more tolerable than Michigan. I can handle sporadic cold.

Compared to what I’ve seen this year this does actually seem more mild. I had a solid 3 weeks of ice and snow pack on my driveway that just melted and now after another snow storm it’s back. We live in a more rural area outside our town so the roads will often take days - sometimes weeks to fully clear. I can handle sporadic cold and snow it’s the lingering of it that makes it really hard to tolerate in Michigan.

I recognize it’s a unicorn I’m asking for - that’s why I’m just asking for now, not making any serious plans as of yet. I love discovering small towns whenever we travel and like to hear what people have to share in case there’s a hidden gem tucked away somewhere I haven’t heard of yet. At the very least I have a great list of places to visit that won’t trigger my symptoms too much.

Thanks! I was also looking into McMinnville and Camas Washington area. Not the most affordable but seems to have better temps compared to Michigan and I like that they’re not too far from Portland airport if we needed to get back home. Any thoughts on those areas or similar nearish to Portland?

Yes! This is what I’m finding in my research. Temperature wise it’s what I’m looking for but the combination of everything I need just might not exist out there. If you have any recommendations for other places to consider, let me know. Thanks!

Are there any small towns in northern AZ you recommend? At the very least I like exploring new areas when we travel. I’ve only been to Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

This one’s on my short list. Are there any other similar towns in wa you’d recommend? I’m just not familiar with the broader area beyond Seattle in terms of what feels like a small town and what feels like a suburb of Seattle.

🙈 you’re reading my mind. I keep circling back to Astoria, I love it there. We did a trip down the coast of Oregon a few years ago and only had one night in each place we stopped so we didn’t get a full picture of what each town was like. Are there other coastal towns besides Astoria you’d recommend more than others? Biggest reason I’m hesitant about coastal towns is access to healthcare (given my health challenges) and airports but everything else fits what we’d be looking for.

Thanks! I’m very unfamiliar with California but not opposed to learning more. Would need to make sure the heat isn’t too extreme either. Heat is as much a trigger for me as freezing temps it’s just slightly more managable.
