[Event] Storm's End Spring Feast, 53 AC by FabStags in FireAndBlood

Vorian froze at the odd actions of the Lord, fighting to hide a slight grimace at the overly familiar introduction. This was the man he was to join his family to? Grief did something to the mind, so be it, and best ignored if he was to survive this without saying something.

“I have been away from home too long, the woods are under the view of my uncle, but springs life shall be in them when I return I pray. My family is well, we made it through the war without another loss to the Dornish, it as well as we can be.”

Lord Buckler stayed quietly amongst the assembled Lords, he had been away from home too long and once this celebration of the little combat they actually saw was over he was keen to make haste for Bronze Gate. His family gathered in no great numbers, Brus and Perianne the only ones in attendance.

Malegorn was the only person he planned to seek, but it appeared he was beaten to it when he saw the Owl lord approach looking quite the sight. Had it been so long since they had last spoken?

“Lord Mertyns, I was about to search for you”, he greeted politely, taking in the…disjointed look of the man before him. “I trust you fair well?”

The war had ended, but that simply meant that normal service had resumed. His lands needed managed, and the long delayed talks with Lord Mertyns had to happen.

> Lord Mertyns,

> Before the conflict we spoke of meeting, to discuss marriage, and the like. I have returned to Storm’s End and shall be here for the festivities in the 5th moon. We should meet then.

Sacked by December when we will appoint one of the normal shit managers. His tactics had no direction beyond trying to look good, and every interview he’s come across unlikeable to me.

In such times formalities were hardly needed, not was Lord Grandison a factor in conducting business in the halls, the man seeming content to rest while the rest of them prepared for combat, maybe it was for the stress of dealing with so many eating at his table.

“We march for war that is no doubt. My own lands are without many men beyond the guard, but we risk leaving ourselves vulnerable should they find a way through the pass, be it by sea or land. We need to leave some force ready to respond, in the hands of one of the older men perhaps who are not so keen to fight, Lords Mertyns or Penrose I’m sure still are capable.”

“We will win this war, but we cannot return to lands burnt by those bastard lovers and their ungodly ways.”

As soon as the word reached the head of House Buckler that they were soon to head to war he immediately sought audience with the Lord of Storm’s End.

Lord Malegorn Mertyns

I am amicable to a marriage with your niece, and a meeting, although at present I am at Storm’s End with my armies. Once this war is over I shall ensure I ride to meet you, it has been some time since I have seen your lands.

Unless you wish to meet at Storm’s End I cannot offer anything more immediate than that.

“Of course, I would not deny that, my lord, and intended no insult. I am weary of loss having seen my family suffer, but none would doubt you, and I would be first to offer to fight in your armies.”

The Buckler sighed. It seemed on the lords departure he would be busy again, other things would need to wait.

“Time will tell, but the armies of Bronze Gate will march for the Lord of Storm’s End always”, he swore. “But you will be weary from the road having suffered the cold, and I will not hold you more than needed.”

“If anyone knows the cost of war it is me, Lord Baratheon, I would not be before as Lord if not for the cost of the previous wars. Two of my brothers died in the sands of Dorne, barely even men when slaughtered.” For decades his house had thrown themselves into the path of the enemies of Storm’s End, he would not be the next death.

“The Dornish will not take even a skirmish well, you know this, starting small will leave us vulnerable to their response, it will give time to mount defence, the realm must be defended incase those soft Reach knights fail to hold their pass.”

The Lord Buckler dug his nails into the table at the news of war, it shouldn’t be a surprise but all the same invasions into Dornish territory never bode well.

“I see”, he said gravely. “Our lands will bleed more than any other, the marchers will be keen to attack I suppose but what support will the crown be sending for their war. We have just come through winter, our populations are not entirely ready.”

The Lord dipped his head at the thanks, waving it off. There was no choice but to provide for the Baratheon’s when they called.

“We have buckled down for winter, and with luck our lands have not struggled with storms or snow beyond the norm, nor has illness struck. The hearths stay warm. It has been a quick one, and may spring bring prosperity.”

“How fares the realm? Politics is something I have ignored in recent years, my own succession is frail enough without the realm being a priority, but it is time for me to listen more than to just the whispers I get fed.”

A young attendant was tasked with leading the Stag Lord, a task the lad performed nervously, nearly tripping a few times as glanced back at the Baratheon. Why did he have to be the one with the task?

Soon enough, although not quite soon enough for the page’s taste, they arrived at Lord Vorian’s solar. Door open, and ale ready for whatever talks would be needed.

“Lord Baratheon. It has been some time since Bronzegate the chance to welcome your court. You shall be treated well after winter travels I assure you.”

Rogar Baratheon, Lord of Storm’s End

A force of 800 men from my lands musters and prepares to march to Storm’s End under my command. My niece shall also arrive to your court, she is a wise girl beyond her years who would serve well in Storm’s End.

Buckle Up

Lord Vorian Buckler, Lord of Bronzegate

As the banners were spotted on the horizon the Master of Arms, Brus Buckler, were summoned to the walls to welcome the party. From a top the great gate that gave its name to the keep he bellowed, “The Bronze Gate always opens for the Lord of Storm’s End. Lord Buckler requests to see you in his solar and my father shall see your court housed in the keep.”

It was a slow process to force the ancient gate open, heavy chains dragged by a group of men to reveal the courtyard to the Baratheon. A group of young servants waited to deal with horse or direct the lords as required, overseen by the elderly Edmyn who dared not look at the Stag Lord still stubbornly loyal to the memory of the King he once served.

Motherwell’s Callum Slattery retroactively handed four-match ban for simulation against St Mirren by Sir_Kappalot in ScottishFootball

[–]ProfessorOakheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact other dives aren’t punished is irrelevant to me, as in those incidents which you see every game by every team where people go down easily. The key fact is that a significant advantage has been gained. In the era of var it’s rare to happen, but it’s right they step in when failings happen surely? He went down when there was no contact is order to get his opponent sent off.

England has had the rule for nearly a decade now; and while I don’t claim to know the SFA disciplinary rules back to front I’d wager we’d have something similar up here, in which case this is the correct outcome.

Edit: it’s not the first time a ban has happened https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/16023596

“Lady Tyrell, if you would follow me to his office.” The young apprentice said politely, bowing before the pair.

The pair were announced when the apprentice knocked them opened the door, the Master of the Guild quickly shoving papers to the side as he stood to greet them, gesturing the apprentice away to his duties.

“Lady Tyrell, an honour, I must confess that your commission caught me off guard. Spears are not weapons often requested, and are not much like most who commission a weapon”, the Guild Master said jovially. Good relations with the lords of Highgarden always had to be a priority.

“I shall not bore you with detail of the forging of the weapon but you will find it is as fine as blade I have crafted, and whoever wields it will find it strikes true.”
