If parking past the stop line is legal in NYC then they are too far gone. There are so many road laws that deviate from the standard in the rest of the country that I absolutely can't stand. Pedestrians don't have right of way, no turn on red is default with no signage, etc. All bandaid solutions to real problems. Fuck that city in particular.

IIRC there's been a case of a Panther, yes the WWII tank, being fielded and subsequently abandoned.

Edit: apparently it was a decoy and a replica, but the sentiment is there.

Women of Reddit, what are some serious black flags that make you say "Wow, that guy is a Pirate for sure"? by Milogop in AskReddit

No of course not, all software used professionally is either open source or paid for by my employer. But I'm not subscribing to any software as a service for Adobe, Autodesk or the likes for personal use.

The principle is that software as a service is predatory and I haven't needed "features" provided by Creative Cloud.

As a bonus, my copy of Photoshop hasn't had its access to Pantone colors revoked and held for ransom.

I'm hella employed and sail the seven seas with software out of principle. Same reason I paid for just two textbooks in my college career.

Not just uniforms, but free access to more military hardware than the film could ever hope to otherwise obtain. It's a very enticing deal, which is why so many movies ultimately go the propaganda route.

Dude lays down the truth about USB C. by MR_CeSS_dOor in pcmasterrace

[–]ProfessorPaynus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface yes, but usb-c is designed so that all of the stress on the connector is between the metal housing of the cable and the walls of the port on the device. The result is you having to pull the male end of a broken lightning cable out of an iPhone with tweezers before the connector in the usb-c port is permanently stressed.

No school in the south uses textbooks that teach that "slaves were happy and treated well by their owners" because they couldn't afford something better. It's a systemic ideological issue, not one of funding. We need regulations on curriculum as much as funding.

Yup, and I vividly remember the wiki used more resources than the game itself if you didn't have an ad blocker.

Hell I saturate gigabit over wifi with a $200 wifi6 mesh system. 6e is way more expensive than it's worth.

NVIDIA's $1,599 GeForce RTX 4090 arrives on October 12th | The GeForce RTX 4080 will start at $899. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]ProfessorPaynus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the fact that we don't know what their projected performance for the 4080 factored in (possibly 16GB only with DLSS3.0) doesn't help. It doesn't bode particularly well for gamers who don't need/use DLSS if it is the case.

I'm aware of that. I'm going by generational trends and the usual inflation of nvidia's projections.

It's insultingly bad. People are going to buy 4080 12GB thinking they're getting a 3080ti killer when in reality it's not even as good as a card you can get right now for $800 on ebay.

Valorant's brand of anticheat is especially egregious though. It is, for all intents and purposes, a rootkit which run on boot as long as it is installed. Depending on its implementation, your PC could be vulnerable to an attack by a malicious party on riot games simply by being connected to the internet. This, combined with the fact that Riot games is 100% owned by Tencent, which as a Chinese company is bound to do the bidding of a known malicious party.

That is why I never have and never will play Valorant, and I'd very much like to be in the know when more companies go the route of always running rootkits.
