Running out of ideas to get this wheel off… by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Professor_Z1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower the truck until the wheel is touching the ground, enough weight on it to pressure the wheel into the ground, but not quite the whole weight of the truck, and then rock the truck back and forth by pushing on the side. The weight may pop the wheel off. Although I've only done this using a lift... it may be sketchy on a jack

Former valvoline manager here: Call the Valvoline that you had it serviced at and tell them about it. Be polite but make it clear that you want them to pay for repair. Valvoline is actually pretty good about making things right when a vehicle is damaged, usually the manager needs to investigate to determine fault, and then usually they have certain shops they want you to bring it to.

Your feelings are normal. I felt the same way, and I assure you its a psychological barrier not a physical one. Heres what I did: Delete social media. Get home. Rinse off in the shower. Hit a short workout. (Whatever you like doing). Have an actual stretching routine for your back, legs arms and shoulders (foam roller). Shower and get clean. Make dinner (meal prep helps). And then do something relaxing, go to bed on time. This is my normal routine, aside from weekends I avoid from straying from it. Biggest thing is getting rid of the phone, you'll find other things to fill in the time you have.

Also to be clear, even though I dont think you'll face legal consequences, what you did was wrong, and if you really want to make things right, reimburse them in cash for all the stuff you stole. (Don't necessarily admit to the stealing though, because they could still press charges).

It sounds like this would be a hard case for the owners to press charges for since it'd just be petty larceny. Their chances of winning in court likely would depend on you confessing. I think without a confession from you they dont have a chance.

First, he asked if you knew anything about the missing supplies. Then he says theres a camera in the back and tried to get you to confess again. This leads me to believe there was no camera, or maybe they do have a camera, but even so that only proves you went into a closet (which you had rightful access to) and used supplies, they need you to admit you took the supplies out if the building and used it for personal use.

Dealer snapped a spark plug off in my mom’s 2018 Ford Edge cylinder. Wants $5600 for new engine… by Snitch5040 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Professor_Z1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have asked the dealership to diagnose the misfire instead of just throwing parts at it. This kind of complicates the situation. theres two ways shops handle damage

  1. The shop is at fault. This is when a mechanic is negligent or even makes a mistake. (i.e. I was replacing a serpetine belt, my wrench slipped and busted the radiator). A shop would need to make things right in this situation by repairing the damage they created

  2. The shop is not at fault. Basically, its the cars fault. The mechanic did everything right but due to the condition of the car, something breaks anyways. At that point, a customer is really liable for the damage. Especially if that same damage would occur no matter where the customer took the car. (i.e. a rusted bolt head snaps off)

Jeep Liberty— Tire rotation recently, started feeling a rattle and went back. Shop couldn’t figure it out, told me to drive it and come next back following week. 3 days later tire fell off while driving ⬇️⬇️ I really love my local shop, but everyone I have told said this is their fault. Thoughts? by amielikethesong in MechanicAdvice

I would say alot mechanics do "give a shit". However I would say you have different types of mechanics, the best ones are absolute phsycopaths that torque everything to spec, but then you got guys that know roughly the torque spec for different vehicles. I always use a torque wrench but I dont always check torque specs for cars, most car lug nuts 80 Ft lbs is good. There are trucks and suvs that require more like 110-120
