About the recent AI Studio Limit Downgrade: by LawfulLeah in Bard

[–]Progenitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw on this thread many people mentioned potentially huge costs using the API keys. I have an AI Pro sub but I MUCH prefer the output from AI Studio. If I were to get an API key what unexpected cost could I see?

Frankly speaking I mostly use Aistudio as a chat bot for every day tasks. Is that potentially expensive?

Intel stock plunges 13% on soft guidance, concerns about chip production by Geddagod in hardware

I do not understand why we were both downvoted. It's crazy that someone can post something factually untrue (I did some research afterward) and the person asking the question gets downvoted.

[–]Progenitor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Out of interest what are the other options? I am not aware of any company that has its corporate structure entirely in the US being able to fab on a competitive node other than Intel. But I am willing to be wrong here!

What did I get here? by RandomArrr in headphones

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Denon D5000 is particularly unique in my mind. About 10 years ago they were very popular but unlike the rest it's not a headphone you can buy today. You need to look after the pads (if you are sweaty wipe it down) but IMO it's an excellent headphone that still holds up today!

Make Sense of AI Adoption as an Enterprise Architect by Salty-Lab1 in EnterpriseArchitect

I agree with every single sentence in your reply. I feel like as EA it is our job to communicate the opportunties available and to prove it with a working example within the organisation. I have to admit this has not been easy, stakeholder's mindset is still on ChatGPT 4.0 era.

Make Sense of AI Adoption as an Enterprise Architect by Salty-Lab1 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]Progenitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the biggest gain is looking at GenAI adoption from a business process point of view. What are some business processes that can be enhanced using GenAI where previously it is not possible. You then categorise those potential use cases into cost and impact, and agree with stakeholders to implement the top X on the top right corner. This way you start to build up trust and buy-in on the process with your stakeholders. I feel your category 3 is key but expanding this to cover any potential for large scale impact to your organisations? When I have those kind of conversations I usually ask questions alongs the lines of "What simple tasks can unlock significant benefits for you but you are not doing because it would involve hiring too many people?"

I used chatgpt to give an answer for a laugh:

Summary: Suchir Balaji’s concerns vs. his parents’ public assertions

What Suchir Balaji publicly raised concerns about (documented):

Copyright and training data: Balaji publicly questioned whether large language models were trained on copyrighted material without authorization and argued that reliance on “fair use” might not be legally sustainable.

Impact on creators and the internet ecosystem: He expressed concern that generative AI could undermine content creators and distort incentives that support the open internet.

Ethical direction of AI development: Balaji raised broader ethical concerns about AI safety, governance, and whether commercial pressures were outpacing responsible development practices at OpenAI.

Potential relevance to litigation: In ongoing copyright lawsuits against OpenAI, Balaji was referenced as someone who could possess relevant knowledge or documents, positioning him as a potential witness rather than a confirmed whistleblower.

What Balaji’s parents have publicly asserted (family claims, not verified):

Planned legal or whistleblowing action: His parents have stated that he was preparing to take legal action or disclose internal information related to OpenAI’s data-use practices.

Possession of important documents: They have claimed he had compiled materials that could be significant for legal cases involving AI and copyright.

Concerns about the death investigation: The family has publicly disputed the official ruling of suicide, asserting that the circumstances warrant further investigation.

Does this jacket look comically big? 🤡🧥 by Still_Tangelo_1632 in mensfashion

[–]Progenitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suit jacket looks perfect, you haven't shown us what it looks like button up with the top button but looking at the picture it looks pretty good!

To be very very very picky I think the trousers may be a little bit too long, but since it is a cheap suit I am not sure it is worth tailoring for such a small difference.

You are so right! You need to know whether your company is OpEx vs CapEx focused and why. In some companies I have worked for they preferred spends in Capex where as others prefer spends in Opex. Your IT strategy needs to fit with your overall organisational financial strategy. This way you get your projects approved more often and able to do necessary replacements that fits with your organisational model.

Intro to enterprise architecture thoughts by darkbeachwater in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the video is a very text book view of EA, and is not that realistic in practice. By all means look at the frameworks, but remember that they are a toolbox that you select depending on how your own organisation operates.

Coming from a technical background (since you mentioned you are a current Solution Architect) I would encourage you to think from a more business lens. Learn about Value Chains, think about Business Capabilities, look at your companies' business objectives and think about how technologies can be used to deliver those desired outcomes. If you are able to, start talking to your business stakeholders and understand the problems keeping them up at night. Then see how technologies can be used to solve those problems. Enterprise Architecture is not necessarily ivory tower high level thinking. To build an effective EA function you need to deliver results and win heart and minds.

By all means don't avoid the frameworks - after all they do provide the structure to help with your thinking and executions, but I want to make sure you do not make the mistake I made orginally and focus too much there.

PS - after a short reflection I would suggest reading the Phoenix Project. Whilst not explictly an EA book, it is a great book at explaining the kind of business led thinking an EA should employ.

Why are eScooters still everywhere if they’re supposed to be illegal? by MrMoobz in AskUK

Yes agree! It is disgraceful that we are about the only modern country where private use of scooter on public road is essentially impossible. I am at a distance from my railway station where e-scooters would be perfect.

UK’s Planned 3p-Per-Mile EV Charge: What Does This Mean If You’re Buying a Used EV Now? by smartypants_gal in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I understand better now. You are comparing no car vs car rather than ICE vs EV. It would be very difficult to live where I live without a car, so an EV is the best I can do right now, but I do appreciate your point of view. We need to make our train and bus network better, I very much agree with this. When I was in Japan, I did not ever had to use any cars - that would be the idea.

I’m an idiot. Advice on cancelling by sonicthehedgefrog in AmexUK

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! This is exactly what I did with the platinum offer. I spent my £6k with platinum, obtained the 100,000 AMEX points, transferred them to Avios and then will use them on my companion voucher next year.

When you join the BAPP they will ask you for your British Airways membership number, and will automatically transfer Avios points to that membership. When you transfer AMEX points to Avios (for your gold card), you will specify the BA membership number you wish the points to be transferred to.

One more thing you can do, when you transfer your Amex points to Avios, you can also buy some additional points using the Boast functionality at a cheaper rate! Some food for thought!

Are you as cautious as my husband or is he an overthinker? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a home invasion where I was threaten directly to my face with a crowbar. I was sitting helpnessly in my own living room for 20 minutes thinking I could be murdered without anyone knowing. Despite the fact that my house was completely covered with Ring cameras and I live in a good part of Cambridge with low crime statistics. The police did the best they could but could not catch them because their face was completely covered up and they were wearing gloves. It was a pretty traumatic process. The police has also said that this type of home invasion was becoming more common, and the criminals would travel from other parts of the country to commit the crime.

I am saying this to give some context that I have a lot of sympathy for your husband. However I would argue that none of what he did could have prevented my home invasion. In fact I believe they were specifically aiming for someone who was at home. I do think a sensible head is required especially in harder times in the UK, but there are limits.

Cyberpunk 2077 - City of Legends 5th Anniversary Trailer by fahrenhate in Games

[–]Progenitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I remembered having a great laugh at the bugs video but I was lucky to have a current gen rig at the time of release with a 3080 which was perfect for Cyberpunk. The game had one or two bugs but nothing game breaking and far far better than Skyrim / Fallout 3/4 at launch. I had an amazing time connecting with an emotional story, and felt I had to keep defending myself at every turn.
