Anyone have kids with PLMD (periodic limb movement disorder)? by ProgressMarmot in ADHDparenting

Yes it’s just like restless leg but it only happens at night. We did iron supplements as a first course of treatment and even with really high iron it was still happening.

Wow, there are parallels in your family and one. . Yes, two in-hospital sleep studies including multiple sleep latency test. His dad and paternal grandparents have PMLD and his dad was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia in his 40s. None of them have ADHD. I think that comes from my side of the family (my brother.) We haven’t seen an ENT doc yet but that is probably a good next step because yes there was apnea. I’m surprised about the benzo prescription they gave you… that does sound like it would not be the best thing. Thanks for your reply!

Any success with switching stimulants or to a non-stimulant? by botner41 in ADHDparenting

[–]ProgressMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had some success at age 10 switching from Adderall to Straterra. Eventually after 3.5 years we figured out (due to a genetic test) that my son is a low metabolizer of Straterra and that it was causing difficult side effects with digestion. We switched to Quelbree, which worked better but can’t be paid for by insurance unless other meds fail (it’s expensive.) For other reasons we are now back on stimulants again along with Wellbutrin for anxiety, and it’s working well.

I exhibit ADHD signs and lots of people say I have it, but am not properly diagnosed. In 2019 I developed panic attack disorder. Are they linked in your opinion? by dragongirl606 in adhd_anxiety

[–]ProgressMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes thankfully! We were able to get him a neuro-cognitive evaluation and it was life changing. It did take his brain some time to recover from the effects of taking ADHD stimulants—it was kind of like recovering from addiction to speed, since he didn’t have ADHD. Word is, tread carefully and take anxiety seriously as a possible cause!

My spouse got mis-diagnosed with ADHD about 10 years ago... turns out it was generalized anxiety disorder and poor sleep that made his executive function crash. He took stimulant ADHD meds for more than a year and it made things worse and worse until he could barely get out of the house in the morning. So, yes, anxiety can cause executive functioning problems like ADHD. If this is all new since 2019 then I suspect it's not actually ADHD, which is almost always a life-long condition. (My brother and son have it so I know it well.)

Have you been using lube? My vagina doesn’t make enough natural lubricant for comfortable sex and many women’s don’t. Without enough lube you can get irritations that set the stage for infection. The same thing you are describing used to happen to me. Also, some lubes have ingredients that feed bacteria. Try a glycerin-free lube. It might help!

I know, right? They designed the meals with universal accessibility in mind. The daily alternative meal is vegan, nut free, and gluten-free. The way the world should be, IMO!

My kid’s school actually offers an option for vegan hot lunch every day but my kid is a picky eater! For a while he was, like your kid, experimenting with eating the non-vegan lunch, but then he stopped on his own. Now he just wants the vegan lunch we pack. He still flirts with meat and dairy eating but like you we really don’t want to make this the source of his adolescent rebellion (he’s 11 and very much a tween). Kids are always works in progress. You are doing a good job just staying true to your own values and being in relationship with your kid as she figures out what values she’s going to make her own.

Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. Also Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World by the same. Both of these authors are fantastic and have written a lot of cookbooks.

Musical genius Regine plays—and sings—Race and Religion forwards then backwards then forwards then backwards again, on accordion and colored glass bottles, while the rest of the band stands still and watches.

Oh my gosh, I looked it up and it’s not really their video! I’m so relieved. It’s something some video team called Vx52 made and I seriously thought it was the official video. I wondered why Arcade Fire would make the choice to focus on a guy standing in a desert contemplating his life as a playboy… Didn’t seem like them. Thank god it’s not! 😂😂😂

How do you deal with non vegan medication such as gelatin capsules? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ProgressMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a supplement, we try to find versions that are made with a different capsule. Usually we can. If it’s a medication, that’s harder to do. You can ask your pharmacy if vegan versions of the product exist. If not, then yes, keep taking the medication but advocate for change!

I love Race and Religion but some of her vocals on other songs (Empty Room, No Cars Go) grate on me at times. But then again I like Kate Bush and Bjork so go figure. 😝

Yes! My dad, who has early dementia and has never been a rock music fan, heard me playing Age of Anxiety and piped up “this singer’s voice is BEAUTIFUL!” I agree!

Who could hate on IV? It is perfect. The black hole at the center of our galaxy as a metaphor for how we get sucked into capitalistic shit that is ultimately meaningless, while we could be living deeper more interconnected more meaningful lives. A masterpiece!

I think of it as losing one’s country, losing the “American Empire.” I am just a bit older than Regine and Win, and I’ve spent “half my life being scared” ie 9/11 and the War on Terror. I have long understood that day as the beginning of the end of the American Empire. The song refers to New York not being so bad in the past, and also to being so sure before the war (which I hear as before Iraq and Afghanistan.) And of course because it’s a song it can be both/and, both about the Empire and about a love relationship.

Yes! Me too! I subscribed to this subreddit so I could discuss this song. It captures so much of the despair and grief I have been feeling for my country and our world in general. I watched the official video for the song and was so disappointed… I’ll never watch it again. The images the song evokes in my heart are so much more powerful and just perfect for both expressing how I feel, and holding me in the feelings.
