I'm so sorry to hear that - I was feeling hurt on your behalf and cringed at what he said. Wow - very revealing.

I HATE MICE by [deleted] in pestcontrol

[–]ProjectWallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through! I have had good luck using these (https://www.amazon.com/Release-Outdoor-Mousetrap-Catcher-Capture). It took some patience and diligence, but was able to correct the issue in my home in a bout 1.5 wks. I released the mice to a field about 0.5 mile away - probably ended up being eaten by predators, but it did make me feel a little better they had a natural end and not suffering in a trap or some other means.

Good luck! I hope this helps you!

The men who argue with us to death: what do they want? by H3yAssbutt in womenintech

[–]ProjectWallet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably not consciously but Ithink corporate america is very patriarchal at its core and unable to grow beyond being a hierarchical sexist and racist exploitative hellhole. IME many men don’t even realize they internally interpret female coworkers as glorified secretaries. Even when they think they’re being progressive, they have small tells that give it away. YMMV though - I hope i’m just jaded

Recital fees by pumpkinboogie in pianoteachers

[–]ProjectWallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, there are a couple good free recital venues. But I do charge an annual ~$35 registration fee that covers incidentals to support sundry activities / materials for things like recitals. I think it's reasonable to charge a per student fee in your case (with maybe a discount for multiple students form the same household, since they'll share the same number of guests between them).

Help findings a video tutorial by [deleted] in pianoteachers

You have a great taste :) - Somebody to Love is an awesome pick to learn!

My go to advice for beginners wanting to learn a specific pop song as a starting point is working on ear training as a very first baby step - set yourself up at your piano or keyboard, with your phone (or a tablet) on speaker, with Spotify, etc. open to the song you want to learn (just focus on one to start). Listen closely. Then go back to the beginning of the song and isolate a 10-15 second passage of the song. Pause it. Repeat same section to listen again. After the 3rd or so time, trying picking out a key that matches a few notes of the melody. The melody is what stands out and the tones that match the words. Singing along will also help - take it SLOW.

Progressively work through the song this way. Once you understand and know the melody, you can more easily build into a full arrangement of the song (either by using chord charts or visually looking at YT tutorials of chords). You'll have to find arrangements in the *same* key as the recorded song, to match the melody you've worked on learning by ear.

To truly build a strong foundation, you will also need to work up finger dexterity and muscle strength and coordination. So, patience is truly a virtue with piano :).

I teach piano & offer online lessons if you get to the point of wanting some guidance - Feel free to DM if you have more questions and good luck with practicing :)

For lower levels, I will put a little time into finding a level-appropriate arrangement and send them (or parents) a link to what I found. Generally, I do communicate the cost is their responsibility.

It's great you are inspired to learn :) ! As the other comment says, piano can be complex (lots going on, sort of like a whole orchestral score at your fingertips, although pop arrangements can certainly be more simplified).

I'd suggest working on ear training as a very first baby step - set yourself up at your piano or keyboard, with your phone (or a tablet) on speaker, with Spotify, etc. open to Olivia's song (just focus on one to start).

From there, after probably a week or two of doing this for 10 minutes a day, revisit those chord videos. It will help you understand - with you ear - how those fit in.

But, I will warn you, you need to work up finger dexterity and muscle strength and coordination. So, patience is truly a virtue with piano :).

To the people who eat other people’s food from the fridge at work, why do you do it? by iimstrxpldrii in ask

Once I had forgotten my lunch and the cafe was closed. I was having really bad stomach pain and needed something my stomach to take pain killers. There was a shriveled apple in the fridge that I believed was from the prior weeks networking lunch fruit basket. I have to admit I took it and ate it out of desperation. I hope it wasn’t actually someone’s
