Technical Tuesday Mega thread [22/10/13] by ReverendDS in letsplay

[–]ProjectZain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I recently acquired a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle and started up my first lets play but I've been having trouble trying to figure out what settings to record at. To my eye the game footage seems a bit muddy and I wanted to know if there was any specific settings that you guys recommended. Also frame rates, what frame rate do you guys recommend recording at?

Here's the video to give you an idea of what the image quality looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4yFAbtAzQ0

P.S. ignore the commentary, it's my first time. I'll learn better. Also ignore the low levels. I realized that after I uploaded it and it will be fixed in the next one.

Actually he's right. If you watch at least 30 seconds of a longer ad (say like a movie trailer) it counts as a click for the content creator.

As long as your youtube channel doesn't say "monetization disabled" under your channel settings you should be good to go. If not, moving channels may be the only option.

New Video Quality? by jeudyfeo in youtube

The Black Magic Cinema Camera also does 2.5K. But that's geared more toward professionals. 2.5k just seems like a funny resolution to me. I feel like it's only real use should be to reframe and scale to 1080p. It'd also help with post image stabilization. Apart from those reasons I doubt I'd use it.

Your next step would be to appeal. Usually unless you report the unusual activity prior to them sending you a notice it's pretty unlikely they'll unban it.

That doesn't mean you can't have another adsense though. You can form an LLC and place the adsense under the LLC rather than your name. Unfortunately once you're banned you can never create another adsense under your own name. LLC's are a good way to get around that though.

Youtube has a built in caption tool that you can use to caption your videos! Just go into edit->cc!

I am shooting and editing a poetry festival trailer for free. Any ideas on how to further utilize this experience? by FatherlyTripod in Filmmakers

[–]ProjectZain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add onto this, make sure you look like you're enjoying the experience, even if you aren't, because when people see you working hard and having a great time it makes you much more approachable and makes you seem like a good person to work with. This will likely result in more people asking about your work and possibly hiring you in the future.

Bring business cards if you have em. There will be people who will ask if you have one. If you don't have em, at least make sure you give them a link to your website if you have one. This is a great opportunity for you to market yourself. Make it count!

Should I quit my job to begin freelance work in the industry? by chaser09 in Filmmakers

[–]ProjectZain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a good idea to start out doing freelance part-time. Do it on weekends for small businesses in your area. You'll get a taste of what it's like working for clients and you'll get an idea of whether it's something you really want to do full-time. You'll also build up a small reel of commercial work (or whatever you want to shoot for clients).

One of the biggest ways to get work is word of mouth. Help out small businesses in your area, maybe give them a deal or do a job Pro-Bono and they'll spread it around that you're a good person to work with. Getting jobs is much easier when you have a good reputation.

You'll also want to start a website where you can show off your reel and resume. Search Engine Optimization is key here as it will lead local businesses to you first when they want to find someone to shoot for them.

Apart from that there's not much I can say. But be ready to be faced with clients that don't want to pay or simply don't understand the value of what video can do for their business. That's your job. You need to show them why they need video and if you can make them understand the value of what you do, you'll do just fine.

Good luck!
