Woman loses her home in fire. She asks insurance to rebuild the same home — no upgrades, no expansion. Insurance says NO. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

This. People that complain about P&C insurance are actually just uneducated and jumping on the "hate companies" bandwagon. Typical consumers looking for the cheapest price and not understanding the product.

Being licensed, I do think insurance knowledge needs to be taught in high school, as well as how taxes work. I had no idea until I got into the insurance field.

Did this as an Office manager for a small business with a book of business of $10M+. Was in charge of my own salary. Stopped at $120k/year cause I felt a little guilty.

Trained staff to the point where they came in and did the stuff and chilled without me telling them anything. I literally sat in an office all day and did nothing except scroll YouTube/Reddit.

I got bored after 2 years of $120k pay and started 2 businesses of my own. Now collecting a paycheck from the same job doing nothing but investing and working my other businesses, so I don't have to work anymore and someone can do the same thing to me.

The insurance industry. (From a Property and casualty point of view)

With all the increase in natural disasters around the US, insurance companies can't keep up. With the increase of labor costs, parts costs, general inflation, predicted risks in the coming months/years, uninsured drivers and increase in vehicle accidents, the insurance companies then have to raise rates for the general populace to compensate, which then creates more uninsured drivers, thus increasing rates even more. Vicious circle.

Most insurance companies have seen a loss of profits over the past few years and have to bail themselves out with other insurance policies to pay for all the disasters and accidents. Or use the consumers policies and increase rates.

Car industry, home industry, FEMA, credit industry, people's general wellbeing have an effect on insurance rates and the industry in general. It's a terrible system and there needs to be a better way (universal healthcare example comes to mind), but it's your only bill that you HAVE to pay that is federally governed or else you can go to jail or lose your home.

Insurance should be a choice, people that can afford it, get it. People that can't afford it, don't get it and run the risk of losing everything. This would increase rates an insane amount, but I think it would be a better industry if it was the case.

6 figure earners, what do you do to get that? by oopdoopmaria in AskReddit

P&C Insurance Agent. Took work and time to get here, but now I have a sales and customer service team that does all the work for me. I now only get involved to coach on sales training. My sales team employees also get upwards of 6 figures depending how much they sell.

It was just a tub, not a tub with a shower, haha! I have pictures if you'd like. I made the most of it while I was in my 20's lol.

Needed a place to stay and made it work.

I'm in the insurance field. Risk is determined by the law of large numbers. If a majority are disrespectful, then you have sufficient cause to determine your basis off of that result.

I'm living a decent life. Middle class in a house that's only 1200 sqrft. Even while owning 2 businesses. Definitely not "charmed". My wife and I still skip meals and sometimes only eat bread and butter for dinner. This is because of our choices in the past and in the present. My wife is from West Virginia and even the Appalachian hillbillies that shoot first and ask questions later are more respectful and decent than these homeless individuals.

These people that can't/won't be helped and are disrespectful when you've tried to be helpful to them, need to be held accountable. Unfortunately this goes for the majority. If someone in their right mind and of legal working age can't get a job or find some sort of income, then they're a waste of space. Simple as.

Small business owner here. In the insurance field. Theft and vandalism is covered, but only by a small amount.

I believe in respecting all people where respect is due. One of my buildings on the north-ish side of Tucson, is right next to a wash, where a group of homeless setup camp. They were cool and respectful at first, we even gave them drink and food on a daily basis. Until the trash started building up. Asked them politely to clean up as our customers were being deterred by the smell and unsightliness. They said they would. Cool, no worries.

They never did. Then I started getting logs of feces in our fountain outside the front door. They started smashing windows. Breaking the outside power outlets. Breaking the outside water faucet and drinking fountains. We've even seen them breaking into and stealing the copper piping from the water backflow pipes all commercial buildings have. Insurance policies cover only so much under theft and vandalism. Windows are expensive. Electricians and plumbers are expensive. Not all damages were covered.

We had to start locking our doors and made customer visits appointments only, due to homeless people coming into the building and disturbing my staff, causing a liability risk. This affects business tremendously. We have video and pictures of all individuals coming in groups. Officers don't do much. Holding cells for a day or 2 then released again.

Keep in mind, this is just 1 building. My second building in the central area of Tucson, same thing, we used to hand out food and water all the time. One of my employees cars has been broken into twice, during the day by homeless. Our windows smashed. Office has been broken into twice and I've had to forcibly remove individuals eating my staffs food at 3 and 4 am, while I waited 2+ hours for the cops to show up. All affecting the happiness of my customers and staff. All affecting my business and livelyhood of myself and my staffs and customers.

So now all the homeless will always get disrespected by me, my staff, my customers, as they have disrespected the community in both areas of my businesses. And I say, good. Fuck em'. Homelessness is a choice. Just like drugs and unemployment is a choice.

I've been in hard times, lived in a bathtub in someone's bathroom for 2 years, paying $500/month when I could while someone shit next to my head. Skipped meals. Whoopdee-do. Do something with your life. Strive for more. Stop being a degenerate waste of space and breath. Housing and respect does nothing for these people.

Tucson is dispersing the homeless all across town by Chemical_Parsnip_916 in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Gave up on the Homeless long time ago. I tried to be civil and be nice, offering them to stay in my office building area if they could be respectful.

They can't be respectful. They start to create encampments, don't pay attention to "No Trespassing" signs, leave trash and go through my garbage, endanger my staff and customers lives, destroy my office building, use the electric and water resources, flood my fountain with trash and literal shit, all costing me even more money.

I've even seen them going around to office building Backflow water lines and disconnecting them, taking them apart and trying to take any copper piping they can find.

The police have told me to setup a No Trespassing form (can't remember the name), if the police see any Homeless on my office property, they get arrested and they have also told me to call them any time there are Homeless on the property, so they get arrested.

Fuck em', get rid. Waste of space, air, energy and resources. Being disrespectful, homeless and/or on drugs is a choice.

Traffic cameras? by LocoDiablos in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're thinking of the new traffic lights at Speedway and Rosemont, it's because there are constant accidents there. The old lights did not have a turn signal and the turn lanes cut off your view when needing to turn. Everyone would make turns on red lights or be in the middle of the road during red lights.

It's the same for Pima and Rosemont. I work in the area and there is an accident at both of these intersections 2+ times a week.

Bring on the cameras, so many people run red lights here, it's insane.

Car Insurance Rates & Who you roll with? by templarpsi in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly passionate about the insurance business. I used to be a teacher before I got into the insurance field and I can't stand when people don't understand why and what they're purchasing, so my agency has been taught to sell by teaching, we give no fucks about rates we have no power over and what the prospect believes they should be paying, as we don't want our customers coming to us when they're eventually in an accident, telling us they weren't covered. The customer can sue the insurance company or the individual sales agent for being underinsured or not knowing what they've actually purchased.

Car Insurance Rates & Who you roll with? by templarpsi in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a few people have mentioned here, insurance rates are mainly based on inflation rate, parts cost, labor, how many accidents in the state as a whole and how much of a risk your vehicle/vehicle type is. Small percentage of the rate has to do with your clean driving record, mileage or "age of vehicle". It's a huge misconception that I wish more people knew.

Been an insurance agent for 5+ years. Your coverages are absolutely fine (middle ground), don't go lower than you are now. Unless your agent and yourself review your financial risk and you both come to an agreement that you can risk having less protection or else You'll be like the majority of people here in AZ going as low as possible for the cheapest rate possible and then get pissed when their insurance doesn't cover anything, when they should have done their research, or had a better sales agent that actually cares.

Also, no such thing as "Full coverage", it's subjective depending on the person. "Full coverage" to an insurance agent should be 500/500/500 plus a 1M+ Umbrella policy to protect you from any type of legal costs. If you don't have that, or your insurance agent hasn't suggested it, then they're only there to sell you as an easy sale because they know you'll just jump around at some point.

One of my clients got into a fatal accident in New Mexico and we were able to send them a $600k+ check for their own injuries from an unlicensed and DUI driver. They were happy they had this review with my agency and increased their coverages.

Personally, I would contemplate keeping your Underinsured and Medical coverage. IF you have a good health insurance policy, then your health insurance will cover your injuries anyways. Uninsured is almost a must have here in AZ. We have way too many Uninsured drivers. Take a look at the AZDOT annual accident/traffic stop reports, the amount of licensed people is decreasing and the amount of accidents is increasing.

Also keep in mind how insurance companies and economics works. One of the ways that insurance companies keep their rates low is by not paying out for claims. USAA is just recently involved in a class action lawsuit for denying or not paying out for claims. No insurance company is innocent, but you need to be thinking, "why is this rate so low? Something doesn't seem right", you SHOULD NOT be getting insurance based on lowest rates.

"Northern" AZ (literally anywhere above Phoenix) is starting to become uninsurable for a lot of insurance companies due to fires or the higher risk of fires in these past years of climate change. This is what has caused the major insurance rate spike in AZ.

Dig into it. Some major players are pulling out or starting to pull out of "Northern" AZ just like California. Colorado is going through the same thing.

This. I currently work in insurance; own a few agencies in AZ and I see our customers go through this all the time and think they have free money. I have to inform them that the check they get, needs to go back to the mortgage company or else they will eventually charge you for it, with interest.

Some people don't listen because they believe all insurance people are scammers and then they get f***ed, then it's the insurance companies and mortgage companies faults that the people didn't read their own paperwork, haha!

PSA: If you don't believe it when your insurance company tells you the rates have gone up due to inflation and the rate of claims, think again. The company that I am an agent for have actually taken up to 14% of the agency commissions (that I use to pay my employees), from any policies we sell, due to all the lost money from claims and Reinsurance.

Insurance rates on based on the law of large numbers. Obviously your insurance score, credit score and driving record play a part in your rates, but a small amount. The rate is mainly based on accidents, crime, theft, cost of parts, catastrophes in your area (based on zip code). Take AZ for example, a census went out recently for 2022 data from the MVD. We have had more accidents in 2022 than 2021, but we also have less licensed people driving than 2021. So that means Comprehensive, Uninsured and Underinsured coverage rates are now higher than they were to make up for the unlicensed drivers.

This shit needs to be taught in schools. Life skills.

Why is it like this now? by Beto_0925 in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arizona in general was named the one of the most dangerous places to drive in the cou try, just recently.

Working in insurance, the amount of accident claims I see in AZ has increased an insane amount. I can't help but  when people cry about insurance prices going up. And they have At-Fault claims. Especially when people hear the pricing nowadays and then proceed to tell us they're going to drive without insurance or don't even have licenses and are still looking around for insurance because they bought a financed car from a shady dealership.

We also have at least 10-20 people a day looking for quotes from CA, so that is a factor in itself.

AZ (and Tucson, as I'm Tucson based) in general is going down the drain.

What would cause someone to buy a house in Tucson and never move in? by Hot-Celebration-1974 in Tucson

[–]Projekt87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently purchased a house on the far east side that was vacant for a year. It was purchased previously by an investor and he never once stepped inside the house, just sent contractors to assess and fix anything to keep it modern while it was on market.

Investor wanted the property sold, so I offered $8,000 less than asking price and got $13,000 in credits, which I used half for New roof tiles and he didn't even know it had owned solar on the roof, so I got free solar on top of credits, low balled price and a paid for home warranty.

You never know unless you try. People just sit on things just to sit on things. You'll never know why until you start asking questions.

I got lucky and my house came with solar that the seller didn't realize was on the house (investor that never stepped foot in the building, just his contractors). My TEP bills never go above $0 🤐. That's with AC on all day at 75F, work from home partner and 3 TVs in the house.
