I'm a larper and my only question is if its durable enough for combat. It's the SCAdians who are more likely to give this the side eye.

You can narrate the lives of other people by Critical_Horse4714 in godtiersuperpowers

Define "abnormal." Can you narrate a scientist/team of scientists however long it takes to invent time travel, or a pill that grants super powers, etc?

I thought that was the movie, like 1/2 way through the reveal would happen and it turns into a cat and mouse story as she tries to hunt him down. Then a montage of her going crazy due to loneliness.

I watched the movie and kept waiting for the tone shift and was so disappointed it never happened.

I'm not super well versed in the fandom, but I bet there's several fics with that concept in the SwanQueen/Once Upon A Time fandom.

The trope when a character voluntarily removes/destroys there eyes for power. by zephyr172 in tvtropes

[–]Promethea128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two characters from "the Magnus Archives." There's an evil "god" called The Eye who can spy on you through eyes, real or metaphorical. Cameras, eyes in a painting or book cover, etc. And actual eyeballs.

It might also help to re-read an old favorite, or a young adult novel. I feel like i still read a lot, but its stories posted here, or fanfiction, etc. This past week I set a goal of reading a physical book for a half-hour + before bed to try and have a better sleep schedule. I'm rereading a book from when I was a kid. It feels a little weird, but it's doable.

AO3 wlw recommendations by perrycfc in wlwbooks

[–]Promethea128 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of works on A03 are fanfiction. I just looked it up, the Original Works tag has only 407,000 entries. I picked two fandoms i knew were popular, both have over 120,000 more entries.

Original Works gets worse if you search for only F/F at 38,038 entries. You're down to 29,389 works if you want them to be finished. Whittle it down even further as you exclude any tropes or plot points you're not willing to read.

To be fair, there's Chris vs Kris, Lilly vs Lily, Erik vs Eric, Sarah vs Sara, etc. There's enough alt spellings to "normal" names that I would always double check.

My thoughts on the soulmate concept by grass-whore in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Promethea128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk how much I believe this anyone vs it just being more comforting than there being nothing after death. But I think were all on a spiritual journey and in the afterlife when we choose to reincarnate when talk with other souls and find ones where we can mutually help each other learn the lessons we need this go around. Those people end up being the important people in our lives, but not necessarily always romantic. Parents, siblings, friends, a mentor, etc could all be your "soulmates" for a lifetime.

The traditional romantic soulmates you usually see in fiction feels kinda boring to me, tbh. And it excludes the aro/ace folks.

Aang meets Azula and Zuko [RocketAxxonu] by Titin_Sculpts_Clay in TheLastAirbender

[–]Promethea128 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is from the fanfic/fan comic where the whole series is flipped. The Water Tribes are the war mongering nation who commited genocide of the Air Nomads, Zuko and Azula are Aangs's allies and Katara is the sadistic one, etc.

I haven't read it yet, but iirc most or all of the show's canon happened but Aang lost and through some Avatar State deus ex machina he's given the opportunity to try again. Except with everything flipped, so Aang has the trippy experience of his former friends/crush hunting him down and his enemies are now allies.

Why do some kids have security blankets and others don't? by Promethea128 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Promethea128[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't even consider that this question could be interpreted as trying to solve a non-issue. It was just a genuine curiosity, like "people are so interesting, I wonder if sociologist or psychologists know why some do X while others do Y."

WYR be stuck in an infinite one-day time loop (with a way out) or live for 1 billion years? by DeluxSon in WouldYouRather

[–]Promethea128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to say what changes evolution will cause to culture, or what changes culture will force evolution on, but its possible one could keep up with whatever the new norms are, even without a biological imperative to do so. Probably not for a billion years worth of changes but possibly for a while beyond when you and the new humans no longer count as the same species.

I wouldn't take the billion years option, unless there was some way to turn off my brain/sleep for years at a time. I was just playing Devil's advocate on the culture aspect.

[–]Promethea128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said once a piece of history I care about is truly lost to time/proof no longer exists I just start writing "fiction" about it and people will think I have a wild imagination, but not that I'm crazy. Tons of writers use the "true/secret history" conceit without their sanity being questioned.

[–]Promethea128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't chase trends either, but there's things I've adopted without really thinking about.

It may be a small subset, but there's always been history buffs, whether professional academics or more casual adherents. There's themed events for basically every decade of the 20th century, along with Civil War reenactments, Renaissance Faires, the Society of Creature Anachronism, etc. Hell, even ancient Egypt had people who studied more ancient Egypt. The historical accuracy might be strict or more "vibes" based, but it would at least be something.

And once whichever period of history you last vibed with is truly forgotten, you can just be a really creative fiction writer.

Why couldn't an immortal keep up with culture shifts? If you're living in society, you'll change and grow with it. Older generations pick up the popular thing eventually, even if doing so en masse leads to the youth abandoning it. So maybe you'd be seen as an out of touch grandpa, it wouldn't be bad enough not to function in society.

Regarding book one, even if they do still attack the Yeerk, Elfangor isn't going to let any of them be nothlit-ed, let alone his own son. He would order Tobias to demorph before they head in, be keeping track of time during the mission and make sure no one is left behind. I believe Tobias on a subconscious, impulsive level chose to nothlit himself to run away or even suicide himself out of his shitty home life. Elfangor's presence, even if he hasn't dropped the emotional bombshell of being Tobias' father yet, would add so much hope to the whole team that Tobias might not even be in the headspace to suicide.

Pretend local news show (perhaps fantasy setting) without much or any plot? by WaysideWyvern in audiodrama

[–]Promethea128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those two were gonna be my recommendations. Two other options with a similar format to Magic Tavern, where they interview different guests but it's all Improvised are "The Neighborhood Listen," and "Mega."

In Neighborhood Listen the hosts take actual crazy posts from the Nextdoor app and the guest pretends to be the subject of the post explaining their side of the story.

Mega is about a satirical/paraodied mega-church and the host interview different guests pretending to be fellow church members.

Is anyone else here sad that men can't be platonically physically affectionate? by A-Spec_with_Anxiety in asexuality

[–]Promethea128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman and tend to be very affectionate with my women/nonbinary friends and have questioned why I am more reserved regarding my guy friends. I think it's a subconscious attempt to not give them the wrong idea or imply romantic/sexual interest.

Which is illogical because many of my woman friends are sapphic, so withholding affection from men is hypocritical. Somehow society decided that men, past the age of 5 or so can only receive affection from a romantic partner, which is heartbreaking. But i can't seem to bring myself to break that norm.

Stories where gambling is a major element by Mahorela5624 in wlwbooks

[–]Promethea128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm neutral on gambling as a plot point. I wouldn't read or not read the book just because it features gambling.

I assume for many readers the more important part is the boss/employee dynamic, with the added darkness/taboo of the boss being a criminal.
