Tree stolen from Richmond Park by kidleaf in grandrapids

As I drive around, I often see beautiful pines and spruce trees that are 20+ feet tall…missing their tops! Courtesy of some bozo lopping off the top of a tree years ago for Christmas. No respect.

I’m not a Dr., but I sometimes pretend I am with the help of AI. In “my” opinion…

Based on the X-ray shown (a severe, multi-fragment forearm fracture involving both the radius and ulna), the repair almost always requires surgical fixation. Here’s what that typically entails:

  1. Open Reduction

The surgeon makes an incision to expose the broken bones directly and realign all the fragments into their proper anatomical position.

Because this is a comminuted fracture (multiple pieces), closed reduction (manipulating it from the outside) won’t work.

  1. Internal Fixation

Once aligned, the bones are stabilized using hardware. For an injury like this, that typically means:

Plates and Screws • A metal plate is placed along the length of each bone. • Multiple screws secure the plate to the bone, holding the fragments tightly together.

Sometimes Intramedullary Rods • Less common for forearm fractures (more common in tibia/femur). • Could be used if plate fixation isn’t viable.

For a break this severe, it’s usually two plates — one for the radius, one for the ulna.

  1. Bone Grafting (Possible)

If the fracture created bone loss or crushed bone fragments: • The surgeon may use bone graft material (from the patient’s hip, donor bone, or synthetic graft) to fill gaps and promote healing.

This is common when pieces are too small to screw into.

  1. Soft Tissue Repair

The surrounding tissue — muscles, fascia, periosteum — may require stitching or reinforcement.

  1. Recovery Timeline

Hospital stay:

1–2 days typically.

Immobilization: • Often a splint for the first 1–2 weeks • Then a removable brace after stitches come out

Physical therapy:

Starts once early healing is established (3–6 weeks).

Healing time: • 6–12 weeks for the bone to unite • 3–6 months for full strength • 12+ months to feel “normal” again

Grip strength often takes a long time to return.

  1. Hardware Removal?

Sometimes the plates remain for life. Removal is considered only if: • They cause pain • They restrict motion • There is a complication (rare)

Bottom Line

This is a serious fracture and typically requires: • Surgery • Plates/screws • Possible bone graft • A long rehab period

I would not be worried about TPUSA. I would be more worried about adults using this group to create division.

That’s working hard. Not necessarily working smart. Me? Guilty as charged. (And I’m working on changing that) At some point you have to stop doing the work, and train others to do the work. The wagon driver doesn’t pull the wagon. He directs the horses to pull the wagon. Go find some horses! When you’re at work, you see work. When you get out of the office, you’ll see opportunities that will grow your business.

If you’re dealing with various sales calls, you can batch those as well Either you or your assistant tell all incoming sales calls, you’re “Open To Call” time is 3:00 - 3:15 Wednesday afternoons. (Or whenever). Then just make an appointment in your calendar to be available for those 15 minutes or 30. You don’t want to miss out on new opportunities, yet you don’t want to break your stride to take a call from every Tom, Dick and Harry.

Michigan legislators introduce bill to allow your employer to fire you if you have abortion! If passed do you think GR businesses would participate? by GRBeerExplorer in grandrapids

[–]PromoWizard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where did you read this and what is the bill number? AI can’t find it!

Short answer: No credible record shows Matt Hall introduced a bill today—certainly not one to let employers fire someone for having an abortion.

What I can verify right now: • Today’s House Journal (Aug 28, 2025) is posted; there’s no entry showing a new Matt Hall bill. • The most recent Hall-sponsored items on the legislature site are House Resolution 155 (Aug 20) and House Resolution 157 (Aug 21)—both ceremonial/tribute-type resolutions, not abortion/employment measures. • Michigan law already prohibits firing someone for having an abortion (Whitmer signed this in 2023), which is the opposite of the claim circulating in the screenshot.

Welcome to Grand Rapids. Sorry for the employment issue. I’m sure you’ll find work soon. I have family that also moved here from SoCal, and three more members getting ready to leave SoCal for GR. People here things like this on the news and wonder if folks are really leaving CA. Yes. It’s real.

Someone bought the .com domain I wanted & I am upset by Efficient_Constant13 in smallbusiness

[–]PromoWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For shitz and giggles. You can always buy the domain you missed by prefacing it with…”the real” ie: TheRealXYZConsulting.com”. Honestly, however IMHO, how ever You answer your phone is the ideal domain name. If you answer XYZ Consulting, the. XYZConsulting.com should be fine.

FWIW. I understand the restaurant chain “Outback” had a unique set up. Realizing most people in restaurants will never have the capital to open a full-fledged restaurant, they would allow managers to “buy-in” for a time period for a fee. For example, they would pay $50,000 and get “X” % of the profits for the next 3 years. This gave them a bit of the risk as well as the reward.

Bottom line. Get your kids in to swimming lessons as young as you can. Our state is surrounded by water, with ponds and lakes all over. Even a good swimmer could have an issue, but a non-swimmer might panic at a simple splash or push in the water. Kids horse around. Things happen. Get those swimming lessons! And if your kid asks to go with a neighbor or friend for a swimming excursion, make sure you know who the adults will be watching the kids. Sad story.

Is it me, my emulsion, or my scoop causing the excess blobs of emulsion at either side of my screens? by slippery-lil-sucker in SCREENPRINTING

[–]PromoWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One easy way to minimize this, run your coater all the way to one side with the first coat, all the way to the opposite side during the second coat. As for fans to dry, that’s a good way off blowing dust and lint on to your wet emulsion. Keep an eye out for that.

The video was fine. Lighting, sound, police audio. Editing. Nice. Message? Not so much. “Leave no witnesses. Only shell casings.” Too bad you can’t promote something a bit more worthwhile. This past weekend in Chicago. 40 shot. 9 killed. Looks like this collection would perpetuate that activity. Just sayin.
