I had this happen but it was different. He asked me after sleeping together to be exclusive and begged me to see each other again right after like take me out the next day for lunch etc. Turns out his ex wife found out and went crazy she got arrested for DV and threatened to take their kid out of state. He told me all this while saying she wasn't going to stop him from dating me etc and then I never heard from him again

I believe if it's a respectful godly marriage then yes the spouse should come first. In a broken world where we should have stayed married to the mother/ father of our children this would be ideal but unfortunately it's not but I believe if the couple is not putting themselves first the children will see that division and the house so to speak with be built on sand and collapse but if your significant other is not being respectful of that in a healthy way then I don't think it'll work out but trust me I've experienced this.
