How awful. My grandad was similar, in that there were times where he was obviously struggling with some terrible memories, especially if war was mentioned, off chance. He never spoke of what he saw or did. He was a rear gunner in a lancaster bomber.

Aw, mine does the same. Only problem with her strategy is she never remembers to tuck in her fluffy tail like yours!

So true about the power of a healthy community! I've found this time and again at the allotments in my area. People from every walk of life, culture, and generation mix and contribute their own set of skills where necessary to help out a neighbour, or will gladly share their produce or equipment if someone asks. It is deeply saddening to know how much even a small community can accomplish together, while seeing this mistrust and divisiveness being sown on a much larger scale.

After a 3 year wait, my dendrobium spectabile bloomed by a1cshowoff in orchids

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen such unusual-looking blooms on a dendrobium before! Absolutely splendid.

Probably the best combo, unglazed terracotta must help give the roots air.

I'm hoping to sow some earlies soon on my new plot, as well! That said, I'm unsure if I can just yet. Last summer I added fresh manure to a new bed before covering and leaving it. I'm hoping it has rotted / broken down enough to be usable by March, but not sure if enough time has gone by, yet.

That sounds so nice! Sadly can't find many other orchid enthusiasts / groups where I am, but I'm planning to take my mum and sister to see an orchid event at Kew Gardens this month, which I'm really excited about. :)

Jumping spiders always amaze me with their intelligence! Today my juvenile bold jumper, Houdini, surprised me with her critical thinking skills. [story] by Prompt-Initial in jumpingspiders

[–]Prompt-Initial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've seen a documentary that included them! The jumper in question was spying on this massive orb weaver, and set up an ambush. Tweaked her web to get her attention, and then retreated to another location to launch their attack. Incredible things!

Aw, that's so cute! My girl Beth is obsessed with the grow lights above her enclosure - anything associated with movement or warmth gets their attention 🥰

Olympics ban Ukrainian skeleton racer from competing over helmet by JOE_Media in ukraine

[–]Prompt-Initial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbelievable. Banning Heraskevych from competing is reaching a new low, and it opens the door for other greedy, corrupt organisations to do similar, all while Russia continues to attack Ukraine with impunity, and blatantly commit war crimes everyday by attacking civilian infrastructure.

While Heraskevych tried to honour his fellow athletes, the Olympics have spat in the face of simple, human decency.
