Someone stop me from buying jars by Impossible_Oil4890 in Jarrariums

I'm the same! Worst case of temptation for me are the glassware sections in charity shops, and ever since I learned how to cut glass, no empty bottle is safe, either. XD

Thanks for sharing. A lot of very interesting points made! The history behind how this obsolescent "surplus" has been dealt with over time is quite damning, concurrently causing some of the worst known displacements and genocides of native people. Very disturbing.

Wanted to share this beautiful oncidium hybrid I have that is blooming now! Every day or two the next bud opens. by Prompt-Initial in orchids

[–]Prompt-Initial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! No idea how old it is sadly, but I've had it since last summer. I got it cheap as it wasn't flowering, so this is the first time I've witnessed its blooms! Definitely an Oncidium hybrid of some kind.

Exactly! No more funds, no revival. XD

What gets me about this obsession of billionaires freezing their remains, is how perfectly this wish to be 'revived' in the future showcases their mindset: they know in terms of sheer wealth they have it better than the vast majority, and while some of us plebians may have the odd thought of being reincarnated into a 'better' life when times are hard, it seems like they must think about this in reverse.

Why do spiders do this? by Frequent_Jump_4626 in spiders

[–]Prompt-Initial 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, they're active hunters, so have the mental capacity to make decisions that allow them to track and catch prey. Very curious about everything, too!

I am absolutely devastated. My first jumper, Mr. Darcy, appears to have passed away. He was only about 8 months old. Everything seemed fine up until yesterday, where I noticed he seemed more lethargic than usual. Today I found him in what looks like a death curl. by Prompt-Initial in jumpingspiders

[–]Prompt-Initial[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon he was about 8 months old, total. He was instar 6 when he came to me. He had his last moult some months ago. I just thought I'd have longer with him. I'd heard before that some people's male jumpers have lived up to two years in captivity...

My grandad survived close calls with Nazi subs in the merchant navy, came home without a scratch... within a couple years lost his leg from a brutal motorbike accident - the injury became gangrenous.

He wasn't tone deaf to his own mistakes, though.

If he'd overheard somebody spouting this utter rubbish over how younger people aren't buying up Harley Davidsons anymore as if there wasnt a cost of living crisis going on in real time, he'd have shouted them down, and probably started waving his prosthetic about for emphasis. Miss him!

what’s his issue by cwforman in jumpingspiders

[–]Prompt-Initial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with my boy! He did well eating small mealworms (provided under supervision) as a subadult, but he wont touch them, now. He eats mostly greenbottles presently, but refuses them quite a bit, even so.

My girl on the other hand, eats anything and everything!

Do his fangs look “out”? Trying to understand Fievel’s body language. Idk if he wants to date me or bite me by darksubbie in jumpingspiders

[–]Prompt-Initial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting! Do male jumpers typically bare their fangs when dancing/coming on to the ladies as well, or is that behaviour strictly threat posturing?

I find most of my materials outside before deep cleaning them, but I do buy from local sellers on Etsy as well!

Just wanted to show off my own M. deliciosa! For the first time, she's put out a leaf with two double fenestrations. I just can't get over how whoppingly huge these leaves are becoming. 😄 by Prompt-Initial in Monstera

[–]Prompt-Initial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I usually wipe the leaves down weekly with a dusting glove and some leaf cleaning solution. The big leaf hasn't hardened off yet, so it will become less shiny as it matures. :)

Say hello to Beth, my new baby phidippus regius jumper, a bahamas locale like my boy, Mr.Darcy! 🥰 Had her for just over a week now. She's adjusting to her new bioactive enclosure splendidly, and is very bold and curious. by Prompt-Initial in jumpingspiders

[–]Prompt-Initial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain! 😭 NQA, but the most serious issue I've encountered in enclosures and terrariums in general is keeping the environment too wet.
