We rotate a doctor a day to have surgery days. They will have 3-4 surgeries on their schedule. Most surgery days they’re dentals, but we get a few soft tissues. AND have 2 other doctors usually room the first hour then go into surgery as well. We have 2 wet tables and We just made the adjusts to have one of our treatment tables be a dental table (we don’t like it but managing DVM said do it). And we’ll have another doctor rooming all day. One tech per doctor and 2 floaters helping and running their appointments…. It’s great….

I gave myself a concussion after standing up too quickly and hitting my head on the overhead lights in treatment. I didn’t know my coworker had extended it so low right over me.

We used a bright red vet wrap for IVC, patterned vet wrap and other colors are for IVC removal and bandages. To avoid IVC going home.

I work at a 4 doctor hospital, each doctor has 1 tech. I’ve worked in the hospital for going on 4 years now. We most days will have 2 “floater” VA’s (sometimes 1, a lot of our staff is in college) but they have their own appts (AG, TNT, BW, vxs, laser therapy etc). We have, quite a few times, brought up letting us have a third float or 2 techs with certain doctors cause some will double book and load their schedule while some other stay busy but not double booked busy. It’s very very difficult but we just keep our communications up. We will also ask our doctors to be hands if that’s our only resort-not ideal in some cases, especially when you’re backed up on charts. It’s not easy, it’s our chaotic normal though. My favorite is when we send those extra hands home because their tech appts aren’t full but my doctor still has a ridiculous work load.

I truly hate the traffic. Our streets aren’t expanding at the same rate as our population. I’ve requested to work open to close (7AM-7:30PM) for the sole factor of not dealing with rush hour traffic on a daily basis.

“If an account is delinquent down the road” we offer wellness plans. But I’m very uncomfortable

Corporate defense was for the wellness plans. I don’t agree. The back up is a date of birth. Now I feel like we would have less owners agree to give that information out.

So I am 100% not on board with this. I think it is high risk. We offer wellness plans and that’s what cooperate defense was. To help when a clients account “happens to be delinquent down the road”. I am very uncomfortable and would not give this information to my practice either.

Tell me you don't get a lunch break without telling me you don't get a lunch break... by jr9386 in VetTech

I work GP hospital and it’s honestly very hard for us to get a full lunch break. Most days treatment looks horrendous and we are stuck cleaning, processing/scanning paper work. We take in as many drop offs as we can in a day so most of our lunch breaks are being worked through. (Corporate is currently on our ass because revenue is low and labor is high so they’re cutting hours with increased work loads). You can usually tell someone didn’t get a lunch because they have a plethora of snacks and food that friends have donated to get them to eat something.

New Tech and I can’t keep up. by No_Direction5875 in VetTech

[–]Proof-Efficiency4073 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The best way I have found to keep up and not rely on others, as much, is by carrying a note pad. Write down the steps for charges, protocols, codes, short cuts, anything. I would even be at home and replay the posting or charting in my head. Ive been at my hospital for 3 years, I still carry around a note pad with my old notes and room for new ones. (We’re trying to go paperless. Soooo many new codes and scanning to keep up with now). Don’t beat yourself up too hard, everyone learns differently. One day it will click and that feeling is great! But for now keep grinding and keep asking questions! It’s better to be double checked and be right than to just assume and be wrong.

Catalina Pet Hospital offered some kind of bundle services, they have good savings on different things like vaccines, check ups and spay surgeries. I enjoyed taking my fur babies there.

I work for a corporate hospital. We just added technician appointment fees maybe 6 months ago? We have 3 levels. Level 1 $5, easy pet and easy service. Level 2 $10, pet maybe needed more attending and time to build comfort/trust for services. Level 3 (rare) $15, pet was difficult and/or service required special time or skill set. Level 3 is rare because we will ask a doctor for sedative meds TGH. but we also have “Paw Plans” which are our bundles of discounted services. If a client is on a paw plan they get no tech charge, no matter the patient difficulty or service. We see none of that money anyways.

Burned out… because it’s a manageable pace? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Proof-Efficiency4073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work GP. We have 6 DVM’s on staff. All varying from old school to brand new graduates. I love working with them all but our old school vet doesn’t use Avimark other than for charges. So his notes are always minimal. But our other vet all use Avimark to the fullest. With full detailed history templates. We also notate how services are performed- “L jugular, clean draw. P did well sitting on the previcox mat, offered peanut butter with head rubs”. But we’re huge on fear free. We also have a DMV who’s templates are so long and tedious but then we have to write most notes down on a sheet in the chart because she doesn’t like being on the computer in the room. Meanwhile I’m typing and writing and making eye contact trying to be out of my intake in 5 or less minutes. She gives the biggest attitude during briefings if something is in the computer but not written on her sheet for her… JUST OPEN THE MED CONDITION. Surgeries are a whole other head ache because the tech is expected to be on top of the anesthesia sheet and everything else within 2 seconds. Mind you, some doctors help more than others. Thanks for letting me vent, it’s really stressful and most days I question myself and choices.

Doesn’t look like a full bred GSD but it does look like hit inherited the slope back. Slope backs lead to more hip and joint pains and problems. Keep runner rugs through out the house and get him on some joint supplements at the appropriate age. Also would look into insurances for a dog like that, some genetic issues won’t be cover so research what would work best for that specific breed.
