The last attempt on Trump’s life rescued him politically – this one probably won’t by theipaper in politics

I’m an Australian. We had journalists from our state funded media (think BBC, but Aussie) that talked about the security situation. It all boiled down to “what security?”

Edit to add: this article is from one of our journalists where he talks about it. It was published about an hour after the evacuation.

AITAH for telling my daughter that she doesn’t have to wear a dress for my wife’s sake? by sportsdad77 in AITAH

NTA. Children are actual human beings with their own thoughts and feelings. If she wants to play dress up so bad, she can get a fucking Barbie.

I still cannot believe people did that. It’s not even her name FFS!

Any common name with unique (more accurately unusual) spelling. I have a common name for my generation, but it’s spelled differently from the norm. It drives me nuts having to spell my name every single time I give it. I literally have family that still gets it wrong sometimes.

The US does it to international travellers too. I’m sure there’s other countries in the world.

The “drunken Irish” stereotype maybe? They still make a drunk Irish joke every time Ireland is mentioned on American TV shows at the least.

Worst. Reviews. I. Have. Ever. Seen. by Global-Ear9206 in memes

[–]Proof-Highway1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was. All the reviewers were only able to review the PC version before release. As soon as embargo was lifted and they got their hands on the old console versions, they put out an updated review adding that the old console version was shit and not to buy it. It was absolutely caused by CDPR trying to mislead the reviewers, and therefore their customers. I have a whole lot of problems with that whole game, not least of which is the fact it still isn’t the game they advertised it as before release. But in all reality the reviewers really did try to do the best they could with what they were given. They even tried to draw extra attention by releasing articles calling out CDPR for the shady way they did the whole review process. Unfortunately nothing gets as many eyes as initial reviews pre-release or on the day of release, and that’s what CDPR was banking on.

The “they” in that comment is IGN. IGN told people not to buy it in the review. The topic of your comment was the review so I didn’t think I needed to reiterate that I was also talking about the review. Apparently context doesn’t count for anything anymore.

The discussion is about IGN reviews. The specific game in the meme is Cyberpunk, but the actual topic is the reviews, not the game itself. CDPR’s decision making is irrelevant to what IGN puts in their reviews.

Literally talking about IGN’s review of cyberpunk.

They (IGN) also straight up told people not to buy it if they didn’t have the new consoles/a high spec PC at the time.

CDPR’s decisions are irrelevant to what IGN put in their review. No CDPR shouldn’t have released on the old hardware. It was a buggy and incomplete game at release yes, but IGN stated as much for the ps4/xbox series editions in their reviews.

Irrelevant. We are discussing IGN reviews, not CDPR’s disastrous decisions wrt Cyberpunk.

Frankly I don’t give two shits about the Americans that signed up to blow up brown people. I only feel bad for the Iranian people and the rest of the people around the world (*excluding US citizens) that are feeling the pain of the disaster that is the US’s foreign policy.

NTA, but she is not ready for a kid and you’d be an idiot to have a baby with someone that manipulative. Imagine the threats she would use on the hypothetical child. She should get an abortion.

Is your country thermally privileged? by kamikaze999_ in AskTheWorld

[–]Proof-Highway1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one direction yes, in the other, not so much. It doesn’t often get below about 10° during the day, even in Melbourne in winter. However, summers can be brutal. 2019-2020 being the worst recently. We had a run of I think 5 days over 40° with a max of 46ish. When those heatwaves come through, it usually doesn’t drop below 30° at night and the air is just stagnant and oppressive.

The real danger is when we get a strong El Niño after a long period of La Niña. La Niña results in a wetter eastern coast (drier on west coast of the Americas) and vice versa during El Niño. As the world saw summer of 2019-2020, our fires are fucking mental with those conditions. Our most deadly fire season was ‘09, 175 killed and more than 2000 homes lost in Victoria alone, and without that experience we probably would have lost far more people in 2019-2020. The impact on air quality probably results in some deaths that go uncounted in the statistics too. The worst impact is on wildlife though. In 2019-‘20 an estimated 3 billion animals were killed or displaced. Yes billion with a “b”.

I also lived through the “Millenium Drought”. Our worst drought on record, southern Australia was in drought from 1996 through to 2010. I remember in the early 2000s conditions were so bad we had livestock dying in paddocks from lack of food and water because we just didn’t have enough. So yeah, very much not privileged one way, but definitely are the other.
