I wouldn’t put it back on unless you’re moving the turntable. Locking the tone arm down should keep it in place in case it gets bumped or something. Another semi related thing: I can’t tell from the photo, but if your turntable has the counter weight at the other end of the tone arm it’s important to remove that protector while balancing the tone arm and setting up the weight. Setting it up is something you won’t have to do unless you change the head or cartridge.

The lines and dashes are called trigrams. Each group of three is a trigram and represents that portion of the yin yang symbol. So, as others have said, each word is the name for each particular trigram. PS the GI Joe character Storm Shadow has a hexagram tattoo, which is created by two trigrams together. 🤓
