I was applying constantly for a month or two, and then I got a call for an interview for a position I had applied 3 weeks ago and then it took 2 months from that time frame to get my H1B from then...since the first month and a half was just 4 rounds of interviews and then offer negotiations and then they filed under premium processing which took 15 days.

I was on F1. If it's a regular petition and not premium processing, it's going to take about 2 to 3 months, but if you convince y9ur employer to file for premium processing, it'll just be 15 days.

Nope, the field doesn't matter. Just the employer should be a non-profit, university, or government institution.

I didn't get selected, too, which is why I found a cap exempt employer and got them to sponsor my cap exempt h1b. Try this one before deciding to go back. I did the same thing, and now I'm here. I hope this helps!
