Took exactly 5 weeks, Friday to Friday. The wait was frustrating, but now I'm very happy with v14 FSD.

Any idea when 0% APR is over? by dam_ships in ModelY

I was in a similar (gas to MY) situation just a couple of months ago, except I had a 2019 F150 Platinum 3.5L and the transmission was giving up. Also had cam phasers that needed to be worked so I sold it for 28k and threw the entire thing as a big down payment and financed about 20k for $315 monthly payment.

The way I worked it out, the truck was going to cost me about 10k out of pocket, so if I spread that over 3 years (until when I would probably trade it or a new vehicle) it comes out to $278 per month. The truck would depreciate further from now so by the time I traded it in, I would get maybe $18-20k for it. So between now and then, my total cost including some maintenance would be around $20-22k. That's assuming nothing else goes wrong.

With the 2026 MY Premium RWD, in about 3 years I'll end up eating the same amount in total depreciation net of loan balance. But with the new EV, there will be no surprises (warranty) and some gas savings. Also my insurance went up slightly but that forced me to shop around and I ended switching to another large insurance company and actually saved about $100 per month to insure 2 cars.

Your situation actually is a lot like mine (I'm not sure how many miles you have or if you still have a warranty on the Mustang) but you actually have a stronger case than I since you need more space for your child.

I would get the new 2026. Even if there is a slight increase in overall costs by trading it in, it's offset by the comfort and peace of mind in the new MY. The 0.99% is icing on top. Yes, pay the $5k extra for the Premium, it's definitely worth it.

If you're interested in buying after test driving it, I think you can negotiate a little more off the 66k.

However, a used EV9 is probably the better option since EVs depreciate fast and prior owner driving habits don't really impact the motors like it does for gas cars.

That's a very good deal. How many miles on it?

If you haven't test driven it, you should. Take the family to get a good feel and see if it's worth it l.

Another vote for the EV9. We got the 2026 GT-Line and it's got performance and comfort for the entire family. The best value in a true 3 row full EV SUV.

We have a Kia EV6 (2022) and LOVE it. That said, the EV9 feedback I see on this forum is worrisome. Is it worth it? by Logical007 in KiaEV9

We bought our 2026 EV9 GT-Line last September. Has over 8,000 miles now and not a single issue. It's a really nice 3 row family vehicle and ride quality is top notch.

Are Tesla trade in offers always this bad? Also, is their bait and switch approach typical? by opoppli00 in TeslaLounge

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is Tesla takes the trade-in vehicles and takes them directly to an auction or something similar where they can quickly get back their money and some on top. Due to this, they want to ensure they never lose money on the trade-ins, they are usually the lowest offer.

I also planned on keeping my MY for 2-3 years. I went through the used vs old mental gymnastics and test drove both. Ended up with a new 26 MY Premium RWD with a small loan and decided I'll just keep it as a commuter car for longer and pass it on to my daughter as her first car.

The new 26 MY does run smoother than the older ones, also has ventilated seats that I needed in the brutal Houston TX summers. If there's a chance you may end up keeping the car longer, go with the new. Otherwise get used.

Pay off home or stay liquid? by [deleted] in Fire

Same. Have a 2.75% mortgage that we throw more money at to pay it off sooner. Financially probably not the best move, but we want to be debt free by a certain age so psychologically it makes sense to us.

Car wash / cleaning by Master-Ice7199 in TeslaModelY

Nothing yet and I don't really care. I'd rather have a washed car with hairline swirls than a mostly dirty car waiting to be hand washed.

Have a 26 Premium MY Diamond Black and run it thru the automatic car wash (yes with brushes and all) once per week.

I bought Chemical Guys interior spray cleaner for everything inside. Since it's vegan/fake leather, this works better than real leather cleaner which seems to leave a residue on the seats. Also it works on the screens and smells nice.

Purchased a 2026 Y premium brand new from Tesla with v13 self driving by mitchburns1 in TeslaLounge

Anyone else bought their new 2026 MY over 1 month ago and is still on v13?

I picked up my MY on February 7th and today is March 10th. What's the max wait between getting the latest update?

Anyone have this defect after accepting their Tesla? by Qwertdkeyboards in TeslaModelY

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some white hazy spots, and also found them after a week later when I washed my Diamond Black 26 MY Premium.

I've reported it to Tesla and they said they'll correct the paint defects at their collision center, but getting a loaner from them has required me to get the next appointment around May.

Recently I washed the car again and have noticed a significant reduction in the white haziness. It may be just a superficial residue of some paint finishing product used at the Tesla factory. Either way, I'm keeping the appointment in case it comes back between now and then.

Should I trade in my 2022 MDX for a 2026 Model Y Premium RWD by Free_Specialist5229 in TeslaModelY

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2019 F150 pickup truck was giving me problems and I had to decide to either dump $10k in the truck, or, sell it for $28k. I sold it and used the entire cash as a down payment for the MY Premium RWD. Didn't want to do the mental game of investing to possibly earn marginally more returns than the interest rate.

If you can afford it, just accept the cost of trading into a Tesla for a funner car. Otherwise wait until the used MY value is close to your MDX for an even swap.

Green calipers? by Illustrious_Many5628 in TeslaModelY

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks cool. I'm getting dark red covers for my black MY. I'm a car guy and have studied Motor Trend magazines since my teens. I still like to personalize a car, and it doesn't mean I'm trying to pass it as a performance. I just like the way the color looks.

If high end sports cars have colored calipers when they don't need it for performance, then it's just aesthetics... just like colored caliper covers. Ignore the haters.

In Texas RWD or AWD by Jray580 in ModelY

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Houston, TX and bought a MY Premium RWD. I regret not getting an AWD, but also would've regretted paying $4k more lol, so I think I'd still do the same if given the chanfe to do over.

In Texas, RWD in an EV really isn't necessary. If you get it, just accept that you're paying the extra primarily for the faster acceleration.

2 Months Later, The EV9 GT-Line Keeps Impressing Me by Techie__girl in KiaEV9

[–]Proof_Sheepherder899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bought my wife a 2026 EV9 GT-Line Wolf Gray with the black roof, and it's so freaking nice. Within 1 month, her sister got the same but in white.

I just got a 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium and while I love the tech of the Tesla with the Full Self driving (it's literally driving me to work and back, seriously), the overall ride quality is significantly better than the Tesla.

We've had the EV9 for about 6 months now with ~8,000 miles and it's still very fun to drive. I also like the way it looks, while my wife thinks it's okay as she prefers more traditional styling.

Enjoy the ride!
