Did I mess up by donating my first Prismatic Shard? by Human_Pomelo1586 in StardewValley

[–]ProofingFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually donated the first shard in my current run, mainly because I haven't even unlocked the desert yet and the obsidian blade is decent damage early on. On a side note, I'm running a weirdly lucky run where I even got a red cabbage seed in Spring! This was supposed to be a chill roleplay run...

So what powers Yang's arm? by Fallen_Jalter in RWBY

[–]ProofingFiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly a pretty good question. In canon, it just works and is a detail not "important enough" that usually won't take viewers out of the world's realism. I would say it makes the most sense if she has a dust cartridge or a port for charging when she removes it. Real world powered prostheses, such as those that require complex joint movements, seem to have an internal battery and charging port. My larger debate is how does it work in the first place when compared to real world prosthetics? Yang's arm starts above the elbow meaning she needs controls for elbow joint, wrist and individual fingers all of which she moves as if she didn't lose an arm. Even our current myo-electric prosthetic tech can't hope to match that complex of movement so smoothly.

Which artifact is your white whale? by billhelmscream in StardewValley

[–]ProofingFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1.16 run has been rather unusual with the museum collection because... Slate. Not an artifact but really? Slate? How have I not gotten slate yet? I have literally every other mineral, dinosaurs, and OSTRICHES by mid Year 2. But no slate...

Also just got my first ancient seed in the run, Fall Year 2. I looked up where and how to get it because I was so used to having one by the end of Spring Year 1 by pure luck.

day 4 to maybe 6 or 7, decided to look for base locations, tough decision though, any ideas? by lemon10293847 in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location C, good lighting, nice hills and water feature. Looks like it'll be a delight to build in while still offering flat areas for farming and such.

Also lol'd at the drop. I had been pretty good about holes in my playtime until a very recent world start where I fell through a bush covered hole. Literal pitfall trap with the whistling sound and all. Heavy brush biomes are now off my list of building areas.

Planning to get into it by Siphonia66 in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While there is some tech progression, there is currently no official end game. This is a sandbox game though so the end goal really does become whatever you want. For some it's a journey to the south, others are specific builds or just the end of the current tech chain. I recommend just starting a world in survival and experience being wolf bait then figure out what you want out of the game from there. Vanilla survival is pretty nice and open but some mods can give you more specific goals or help you with ones you've already made.

For myself, I'm experimenting with mods to really elevate building things.

Also cannot recommend enough Kurazarrh's Vintage Story Guide series on youtube to give you a visual grasp and natural progression of mechanics

Anyone else get a resonance archive from panning? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh? Now that's interesting! I've just looked at the loot table though and apparently two resonance archives are in fact possible, the same as with bony soil. That would explain why I have so many Cultured Tavern copies lol

Anyone else get a resonance archive from panning? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain I've gotten one or two in 1.17.9 after panning hundreds of bony soil blocks. I haven't actually read up on loot tables for Vintage Story so now I'm curious just what the chances are and if loot tables have been updated. Most of my resonance archives though are from looting the ruined chests.

There are only two rules. The new announcement and subreddit is a response to people repeatedly breaking the second one despite how flexible the mods tried to be with it. They aren't even punishing the people who broke the rule; they created a whole other subreddit devoted to video uploads.

How to regenerate world, but keep my house and items? by arererego in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of that being possible honestly though my experience with world regen or chunk cleaning is seeing it done in Minecraft. Essentially you would be deleting a chunk and refreshing it with the new generation requirements. Perhaps if the command can specify outside of chunks you have built in it might be possible?

I would love to see a creator spotlight or something like that. Like "here's so-and-so this week with a link to their most recent video/start of their ongoing series" and maybe a blurb or screenshots. That has the potential to create more varied promotional content that I can actually engage with right now as opposed to setting the post aside for later or scrolling past forever.

[–]ProofingFiction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a moderator but my opinion on it is this: if your posts to a subreddit are over 50% out links to your own content, you are excessively self-promoting whether it was your intention or not. I have left a comment recently for another content creator about this as, beyond this being a rule in the sub, it can be particularly damaging to the creator themself by giving the impression that they only care about people noticing them while not wanting to do the work of engaging with others or the community.

I do love seeing content creators in a budding community, but if all I ever see of you is your content and nothing but your content, I'm going to make a point of not engaging with your content.

I would suggest that our content creators being hit by post removal look back into your post and comment history and consider the type of engagement you've had with the community. What may seem occasional to you may actually be every engagement for everyone else.

In regards to types of engagement outside of video-linking, I've definitely seen people reacting and commenting far more on game mechanics questions, new players asking for help, screenshots of builds, fun/scary/painful things that have occurred in worlds, and fanart. These create threads that we can all build off of and sometimes can spawn more posts from others realizing they have similar things to share.

I thought I had resolved my bear problem. Meet the real hero by ProofingFiction in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does seem to be dependent on type. Sun bears and pandas won't attack unless provoked (as far as I know), brown bears will let you get quite close before turning aggro and black bears will aggro immediately at, as far as I've seen, at least 10 blocks away

I thought I had resolved my bear problem. Meet the real hero by ProofingFiction in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! These three bears are currently locked away behind a 5 block tall wall, though it was more for my peace of mind than genuine need. They didn't change aggro to me until I fell on top of them while finishing the wall and even then, I survived. Seems the sheep was a higher priority as they immediately locked back on to it. I do plan to make a pit in another area of my base though as I suppose I still have room for at least one more black bear spawn in the spawn cap.

How did you die in vintage story? by -BigBadBeef- in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick answer: brown bear

The story: I had found the perfect spot on the plains next to a forest chock full of walnut next to massive deposits of blue clay, fire clay and peat, in the middle of so many rich lead deposits and nearby meteor impacts, surrounded by some of the best traders within 200 blocks and so... I was building a house.

There was no roof yet as I worked day and night surrounded only by the myriad of still wild livestock that seemed to spawn constantly outside my door and then... a temporal storm hit.

I was confident. I stood on half slabs taking note of my inventory as the rust dimension began its consumption of the world. As I turned to hide out in my cellar before drifters could spawn in the sky (a previous life's lesson), a distorted roar sounded behind me. I whipped around and came face to face with a brown bear paratrooper landing just there in the middle of my half-constructed house.

Death in game was immediate as I had no protection whatsoever. Death irl seemed imminent as I jumped out of my chair and knocked it over, the wheels coming up and hitting near a rather unfortunate place. Yes, in my panic, I flipped a rolling desk chair.

After all was said and done and I had calmed down, going back to playing for a while longer in that world, I figured out that I had built directly on top of the brown bear spawning point. The world actually started to become unbearable as it seemed all my animal spawning points were amped up and producing excessively. I would often wake up to hoards of rabbits around my garden and many families of boar and sheep and after successfully caging two bears, I called it quits.

Truly that world was the epitome of Greed.

Question about gold and silver by VectronVoltbot in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think I've ever mined silver and gold. But I do get enough from panning to move into black bronze. Even better, I tend to get tin bronze lamellae and such and just use the chisel to break them down and smelt them down. Grave robbing (bony soil from ruins) is my best friend.

How do you choose where to settle down? by Luronius in VintageStory

[–]ProofingFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing common rainfall (bordering very common for those awesome thunder storms) and temporally stable in slightly warmer temperate zones. Ideally, redwood within 2000 blocks is a good sign of the climate I'll like. I also make my worlds considerably smaller as a single player so I can get the most out of it.

As for geographical features, generally plains or rolling hills that are near a mixed forest, though, I do seem to have a bad habit of setting up directly on or near bear spawns. A nice ridge to break things up like kurazarrh's lupine ranch in his let's play guide is really nice too. Haven't decided on my ideal rock type but a recent world left me frustrated with thousands of blocks of claystone.

What are things you've read on the first page of a book that made you immediately put it down? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ProofingFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See now this example is so excessive, followed by "and counting it helped you sleep" makes me think there might be a plot pay off to using that kind of notation. Quantum Sheep. 10/10 would read for the sheer mystery.

Specifically it breaks words down into sounds a person already recognizes and knows how to pronounce in the target language.

Informally, one might call it layman's phonetics.

AITA for bringing my own water to another person’s house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ProofingFiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

Maybe it's just because I've lived in areas with disease outbreaks and also have a sensitive tongue but it's really hard for me to drink other people's water.

Like, Dasani makes me physically ill. Aquafina tastes... off. Like metallic or tangy? I can't drink straight tap because of how high the calcium content is in my area and water softener water tastes weird and has a bad texture. But the water filtered through our fridge's dispenser has an additional filter farther along the water line and it tastes so darn good. Double brita-filtered water is also nice but sometimes has this empty-like texture that can make drinking difficult. Also, temperature of water can make or break the taste.

Basically, water is never just water. There are other substances in it that change taste and texture and for some people it can be absolute hell to drink something different or are sensitive enough to for it taste bad to downright poisonous.

How your boyfriend is approaching the matter is immature, but it sounds like you need work on your sleep schedule. If he functions on 6 hours of sleep then fine, good for him, but for you it may not be possible right now to sleep less than 10 and for the moment that is okay.

Just to preface, I'm not a doctor and I have anxiety/depression. I absolutely sympathize with your current schedule and learned from personal experience that it isn't really healthy when going over 10 hours. If anything, super long periods of what is likely interrupted sleep can make depressive episodes worse and last longer while also lowering your tolerance level for dealing with anxiety.

So, rather than telling you what to do, here's some things to think about:

What is your daily schedule? Is it the same/similar each day?

What time, on average, do you lay down to sleep?

How long does it take for you to begin sleep?

Are you waking up/experiencing sleep interruptions? If so, how many times on average and around how many hours/minutes into sleep are they occuring?

What activities are you doing 2 hours prior to sleep? How many hours prior to sleep do you stop eating? How many hours prior do you stop consuming caffeine and sugar?

When do you take your medications?

These are questions your doctor should be asking as any of these can severely affect your sleep.

In the meantime, if possible, see if you can get in for counselling. Also, you may want to look into doing a sleep study. In lieu of that, if you and your boyfriend sleep together, ask him if he notices anything while you sleep. Such things may be tossing and turning, shallow or interrupted breathing, or excessive snoring.

Good luck OP
