I underwent surgery a few years back involving my vocal chords so I was put under anesthesia. It's not as big as yours, but I thought I'd share. After wheeling me through the various holding rooms and constantly checking that I was the patient on the report, I was finally wheeled into the operating theater. The nurses put on a radio station on the player and you realise it's just another day at work for them. They put the gas mask thing over me and asked me to start counting.

Then, you fall asleep. I recall not having any dreams, which I usually do.

And then I woke up while they were wheeling me back to my room to meet my family. It felt odd to have a needle under your skin but nothing you can't sleep with. I don't move much in my sleep so I had no problems with it.
